Jane/Amelia Ship Meme

How differently do they think of each other now compared to when they first met?

Amelia had expected for Jane to be intimidated by her when they’d first met (she’s a tiny academic with limited to no experience travelling the universe) and had inappropriately thought that she would have the same level of control through fear with her as she did with the rest of her crew. Needless to say Jane wasn’t really scared off, offended that Amelia thought she would be. Jane for her part thought that Amelia was stiff, narrow and unlikable. Amelia certainly didn’t do anything to disprove that at first and so they didn’t like each other very much at first. They didn’t really start off from a perspective of disrespect per se more of Amelia didn’t really trust Jane initially (who in turn regarded her as uncouth and rude and not worthy of sharing her thoughts with) and they each stereotyped each other into their respective roles and didn’t really let them grow until experience proved that they were more than what they each thought of the other in their heads.

What changed this was adventuring and working under pressure. They got to see the softer and more nuanced sides of each other, Jane teaching crew members about her findings and carefully recording anything she can get her hands on because she wants to learn everything about all the things she sees and then being able to recall that comes in handy and Amelia finally puts her trust in Jane’s abilities and is astounded with how well Jane was able to learn about minutiae of Amelia’s life.

What do their friends/family think of their relationship?

Where Jane isn’t intimidated by Amelia, Professor Porter is. He’s encountered people like Amelia before and is rightfully terrified, not really enough to not work with her but enough to keep his distance. Jane comes to find this funny and sad after initially being angry about it. However much Amelia terrifies him though he notices and acknowledges Jane and Amelia’s feelings before they do and is very supportive after he realizes that Jane is happy with her and actually gets them to come forward with their feelings.

Mr. Arrow and for that matter the rest of her crew love the softer fuzzier feelings that Jane elicits although he makes sure of Jane’s intentions before showing any sign of that.

How do their personalities/skills complement or contrast with each other?

I think that what makes Jane and Amelia work really well together is that although they’re wildly differing characters at their core they both have this wild sense of adventure and exploration. Albeit they go about this very different ways and operate on incredibly different scales within their two films which are also drastically different settings. But I think that’s part of what makes them compelling, it’s easy to imagine Jane charting out uncharted planets and what’s on them learning about the reaches of galaxies in the far off future.

What is their favorite aspect of each other?

ADVENTURE.

Ok, but more seriously their second favorite things about each other are:

Amelia loves how quickly Jane learns and how differently Jane thinks about things and especially people and Jane loves how quickly Amelia catches on to her thoughts and comes up with arguments and how different she is from what she’s used to.

Do either of them have pet peeves about each other?

Amelia is really abrasive and this gets on Jane’s nerves especially early on. Amelia considers herself to not coddle people whereas Jane would see her pushing those potential relationships away and be frustrated with that considering a lot of it to be unnecessarily cruel.

Amelia for her part is upset a lot early on by what she considers to be Jane disregarding her rank and undermining her authority.

How would each reconcile with each other after a fight?

They argued a lot when they first met so at this point it’s gotten to a more friendly banter place where they each riff on each other and mention past arguments. (excuse my pun but sometimes it gets catty.) When arguments get serious often the crew will take sides and try to nudge them to resolution, if only to make their working environment better.

What would be their ideal vacation getaway together?

They’re already on it. Mr. Arrow tried to set up a romantic planetside night out together without work and they loathed it and he still gets flack for what an awful idea that was.

Think of a new way (AU, different situation, etc.) they could have met for the first time.

Basically always when I see this pairing I see them in Treasure Planet, which makes sense because honestly it’s a more compelling universe to see a cat alien in but it might be nice to see a Tarzan AU wherein Amelia is a human naval officer or where Amelia is a humanoid jungle cat thing that grew up without human contact.

okay so like i don’t really do video edits like this but @thenamelessdoll made a bunch of masking giveaway videos and i just?? wanted to try it out?? for the new year??? me and a friend love crossover vids and i actually spent like three hours on this last night w/o even realizing it oOPS

It started with just Alice looking lost in the market, then i saw another clip of Amelia that could kinda be paired with her and then i just went full gay and found a mildly fitting clip of Jane to add in. And then I did some color correction fun and oops well i guess Alice is definitely supposed to be their daughter or something here. Listen this single video has had me sold on this ship for y e a r s.

I don’t think I’ll do much more with these kind of crossover vids or edits, I’m just not super passionate enough about it to put other videos and projects to the side, but it was nice to play around with!
