Pink at the Creek
Photo from April 20, 2024.
Richmond, Virginia (USA)
Each Spring, I look forward to the Pink Wood Sorrel flowers that beautify the banks of the creek. These were starting to close up for the evening.

From a group of Azaleas close to home. I can't resist stopping to admire their lovely white blossoms.

Azaleas & Poison Ivy
Richmond, Virginia (USA)
Based on a photo from April 21, 2024.
Mid-Spring brings forth not only the Azalea blossoms, but also the Poison Ivy plants. Wanderers of the creeks, parks, and woodlands, beware! And always wear 🧦, 👟, and long 👖.

The art of Japanese woodblock prints continued into the 20th century. Yoshida traveled widely and was greatly influenced by Western art, especially landscapes. Here Yoshida captures a view of Mt. Rainier in Washington state from an alpine meadow of blooming flowers.
The summit of Mt. Rainier (also known as Tahoma by indigenous peoples) reaches to over 14,000 ft. Like Mt. Fuji in Japan, Mt. Rainier is an active stratovolcano — a particularly dangerous one to the Pacific Northwest region in the event of a major eruption.

In my region, one of the glories of April is the Dogwood blossoms. Every Spring, I rediscover their simple beauty.

This bridge seems wider when driving across it. It's always interesting to get a different perspective.

The Handwriting on the Wall
Manchester Flood Wall
Richmond, Virginia (USA)
Photo from April 12, 2024.
The flood wall is usually covered in graffiti, and normally it's just the typical display of designs and personal tags, often the work of nearby university students. The appearance of a direct message like this one is notable.

Red Maple Samaras
Richmond, Virginia (USA)
Photo from April 7, 2024.
Red Maples are my favorite type of Maple. Their samaras (helicopters) turn red as well, and are a common sight in Spring in my region. Red Maples are also known as Swamp Maples, since they tend to grow near streams and wetlands in eastern North America.

The art of Japanese woodblock prints continued into the 20th century. To Westerners, this may look like a vacation locale for tourists. But this may be just a village scene in the mountains when the Cherry blossoms are at their peak. I can imagine walking up a rural mountain road, taking in this lovely springtime view on my left.

The "Catcident"
Photo of Charlotte 🐈 🐾
Richmond, Virginia (USA)
* * * * * * * * * * *
Me: Charlotte, can you explain the mess I found yesterday when I got home from work? How did your food bowl and water bowl both end up overturned?
Charlotte: Um... it was a "catcident." I think it started with one of my claws getting stuck in the soft cat mat, so I pulled back (as cats will do) but my claw was still stuck, so I pulled harder and then both bowls flipped over.
Me: OK. That makes sense. I think I need to buy you a new cat mat that is more of a flat surface that your claws can't get stuck in. But it seems your nickname "Big Mess" is still warranted.
Chartlotte: So you say... but "catcidents" will happen. It's part of Cat Theory.

Redbud Blossoms
Richmond, Virginia (USA)
Photo from April 7, 2024.
Eastern Redbud trees are native to the eastern half of North America, yet there are similar Redbud species in other regions of the world (Palestine & Anatolia, Afghanistan, China, California foothills). The "Judas tree" of Palestine is a famous cousin. Redbud trees are part of the Pea family of plants — evident when its long seed pods appear, dangling from its branches.
