“Paris was pretty good. How have things been with you?”

“If I was a messenger god, maybe.” His reply came out a little bit like sass, which wasn’t what he intended to do. Her skin was coated with a thin layer of sweat, which made it clear that she had been in the room for a while. “I’m here for the room.”

“Oh sorry, your not Hermes?” She asked teasingly. She lowered herself from the bar. “I’m pretty much done here so it’s all yours.”

“No news, I’m afraid,” Melinda chuckled, shaking her head as she flashed the girl a quick smile, almost apologetic in nature in case she had lead Jamie to believe she had something exciting to tell her. “I just had a bit of free time and figured I’d come and catch up. I haven’t seen you since before you left for Paris.” 

“Well you know what they say, no news is good news.” She hummed dropping down from the bar and grabbing her towel to wipe off her forehead. “Are you saying you actually got a moment of free time?” She teased. “Paris was good for the most part.”

“Nope, just a guy who needs a few minutes out of the hustle and bustle,” Asher politely responded as he took a seat against one of the walls then started to rummage through his backpack. He extracted a few notebooks alongside a few granola bars. “Just here to sketch in peace, that’s the only news I bring.”

“You came to the gym to get away from the hustle and bustle and sketch?” She repeated, a bit amused. “Thats an interesting choice.” She said as she dangled from the bar.

Jamie was in the training room working her ass off.  She had already been training for a couple hours when she hear someone enter. She pulled her self up on the pull up bar to finish her set and opened her eyes when she reached the top to spot the other figure. “You look like you bring news.”

“Honestly I think it’s ridiculous that they’re just shoving the science building people into these small offices.” She hummed. “Hopefully the building will be back up soon.”

“Yes, thank you, I’m aware it looks disorganized. It’s too small and I haven’t had a chance to figure out how to make everything fit. The area in the science building had more space.”

“So it’s not a walk of shame?”

“This really isn’t what it looks like.”

“Damn, and here I was hoping,” he joked, though his grin dimmed slightly at her question. “No,” Haven replied, shaking his head. “And honestly, that’s kind of the whole reason I want to learn.”

“Well you’ll have to hope harder” she chuckled. “Well like I said you’ve come to the right place. I’ve basically been trained with a gun since I was three.”

“I’m not even in your class anymore. I just stopped by to say hey.”

“I don’t have class for another four hours, I hope you’re not trying to make a good impression by showing up that early.”

He did his best to hide his sigh of relief, though he knew it was going to be short lived. Instead, he returned a joking grin and tilted his head. “What? You aren’t going to go easy on me?” he asked, though the humor was clear in his tone.

“I don’t go easy on anyone. Not even you space boy.” She said with a teasing smile. “Have you ever used a gun before ?

Was there a specific reason? He wasn’t entirely sure. But the stress and feeling that something was going to happen and he wasn’t going to be prepared was weighing on his head, and if it came down to a fight, he didn’t want to be caught off guard. “Not really?” he ended up saying. “It’s just that…” Again, he hesitated. “I can’t fight anymore, or at least, not in the way that I was trained.” Further explanation may have been necessary, but that was all he was willing to give at the moment. He sighed in resignation before continuing. “But I know that I need to defend myself somehow, and I thought that maybe using a weapon that I haven’t used before might be the answer.”

She gave him a soft smile. “You’ve come to the right place my friend.  We can start tomorrow but be ready for a tough lesson. I’m not and easy teacher.” She said nudging him playfully.

He hesitated again, fiddling with his hands. “I wanted to learn how to use a gun,” he finally blurted, looking up. “It’s out of the blue, I know, and I’m sorry, but you are literally the only person that I could think to ask.”

She paused for a second. “Sure I can teach you how to use a gun. But you have to listen to me and do everything I say.” She paused again. “Any specific reason?”

          Araki is not too proud to throw away the help back up to their feet. “It has been many months since I was so challenged. We should spar again, some day.” A challenge had been given, and Araki was always looking to beat those kinds of challenges. Their sibling’s criticism that they were constantly chasing after fights was probably more true than even David knew.                          “Thank you for the fight.”

Jamie wiped the sweat of her forehead and smiled as she caught her breath. She couldn’t even remember ever having a sparring session as intense as that had gotten, but she enjoyed it. “I look forward to it.” She mused. “My pleasure.” She said with a small grin.

“Thats very fair.”

Jamie smiled reassuringly at her friend. Something seemed up with him but she just shrugged. “I might possibly have an answer for you. But I need to know the question first to say for sure.”

It wasn’t often that Haven hesitated to ask a question, especially to Jamie, but all the scenarios and ways that the request could go wrong ran through his mind, and he desperately tried to squash the doubts. Shaking his head and pasting on a grin he tilted his head and sat across from the SHIELD agent. “So I have a question?”

“I’d say you were luckier, but I really enjoyed my conference, so…I don’t think I’ll be jealous.”

“What was the conference about?”
