What Can New UPVC Windows Do For Your Home?
One of the best ways to improve both the appearance and the efficiency of your home is to install new UPVC windows. This type of window really can do some great things not only for your home, but for your energy bills as well!
When modernising an old home, it is important to consider all the options that you have available. We would also advise that you bring in professional, certified people to take care of the home improvement installations. If you are particularly skilled at DIY, you might be able to install your own windows – though it can be risky and should be left for professionals.
Want to know how new UPVC windows can benefit your home? We have compiled a list of all the fantastic things these windows can do for you!
The Benefits Of New UPVC Windows
They are cost-effective – when it comes to windows, UPVC is a much cheaper material than other common window frames (such as timber or aluminium). This is not a sign of the quality, however. UPVC is both cost-effective and offers a wide range of fantastic benefits that you will read more about below.
Increased security for your home – As with all double glazing, your home will be more secure, and harder to break into for intruders. With UPVC windows, you get added security. This particular material is durable and strong, and is resistant to a surprising amount of damage. Due to this strength, UPVC windows can also act as somewhat of a deterrent for burglars and intruders.
Weather resistant – As an external element of your home, your windows are left exposed to the weather. This is not a problem for homes with UPVC windows. Whether it is rain or wind, or snow, your windows will remain strong, durable, and long-lasting.
They are energy efficient – These are great at stopping heat from escaping. Double glazing with a UPVC frame is incredibly energy efficient, and will help to reduce your carbon footprint. It will also help you to save on your energy bills.

A complete guide to the cost and installation of sash windows
Deciding to add sash windows to your home could be one of the most savvy and stylish home interior design improvements that you make this year. Not only do they look good in both modern and traditional styled properties, but they also have the added benefit of making your home more energy-efficient and safer for you and your family.
That being said, you need to make sure that they are affordable for you and that your return on investment is as high as possible.
Thankfully, the installation of sash windows will instantly add value to your home, so now all you need to decide is which type of sash window you will choose based on your budget and style preference.
What types of sash windows are available?
When choosing what type of sash windows you should install in your home, you need to look into a number of important factors. Firstly, your budget, as certain materials are more cost-effective than others.
You can choose from one of the below framing materials:
Wood
uPVC
Aluminium
Secondly, you need to take into consideration the style of your home. For example, if you have a period property which has kept its original features, you may prefer to choose a wooden frame to reflect your home’s traditional style.
However, if you have a more contemporary house, then uPVC or aluminium might suit you better. The latter frames are ideal for people that live near the coast, as they will experience more severe weather conditions, and so the frames will be durable than wood.
How much do sash windows cost?
It is difficult to put an exact price on the cost of sash windows as this will be dependent on varying elements, including the material you choose for the frames, the type of glazing you want, any additional security features, and the cost of the installation itself.
youtube
Based on a standard 600 x 900mm window, you will be looking at an estimated cost for both the supply and installation of:
£250-£400 for a uPVC window
£550-£700 for an aluminium window
£850-£1000 for a timber window
Do you have to pay installation costs?
Choosing to have new sash windows in your home is not a decision to be taken lightly, as they are a considerable investment for your property. Therefore, you want to ensure that you not only get the best product available but that you also ensure that they are fitted to the highest of standards.
If you are thinking about installing sash windows yourself, you should be aware that there are legal requirements involved regarding thermal efficiency, so you need to ensure that you are confident and capable before making the decision to fit your own sash windows.

How long does it take to get new windows?
Tumblr media
The prospect of getting double glazed windows installed throws up a lot of questions in many people’s minds. Some will worry about the eventual cost and others will question how long the process will take.
It’s understandable to have reservations, as the process will involve leaving your home temporarily open to the outside world while the windows are fitted.
Those who are looking to eventually sell their home will want to have their windows fitted in a timely and efficient manner, and so timescale is an important factor for many.
How long until I get a slot?
There are two main factors that will determine how long you will have to wait until you get a slot. The first is how busy the installers are when you call to book.
Tumblr media
You could be waiting anywhere between a day to a few months, which will vary on how packed their schedule is. The second factor is what time of year you call to book.
Understandably, most people want to have their windows replaced in the summertime when the weather is much more pleasant; you will have your home exposed to the elements for a brief part of the day while the windows are fitted. So, as a result, you can expect schedules to be a little more busy during the summer.
How long does the process take?
The first part of the process will involve taking the old windows out and getting them ready to fit the new frames. Roughly speaking, you can expect your installers to get around 10 windows fitted in a day.
youtube
This means that it could potentially take three to five days for a large house to be fully-installed. However, it’s worth knowing that a large window or a particularly complex window such as a bay window may take a few hours to install in its own right.
When you contact your installer to ask about prices and time duration, be sure to give them an exact rundown of what you want before asking for a timescale. If you have some quirky and interesting frames you want to be added or different window styles such as sash windows, you might need to allow for more time.
Can I improve the time it takes?
Tumblr media
There are certainly some ways in which you can aid the process of installing the windows. Try and clear plenty of space around the property, which means:
Removing objects in and around the windows, both inside and out.
Clearing pathways.
Sweeping away debris, particularly around the outside of your home.
Taking down curtains and drapes.
This adds more time on top of the process of removing your old windows and replacing them with modern models.
The best way to get an accurate sense of how long a window installation will take is to contact the company you want to work with and get a quote and estimate.
They will have to get a sense of what you want in the first place to give you a reasonable timescale. This way, you can start planning around your booked slot.

French door cost guide
Tumblr media
French doors are often customers’ first go-to selection when it comes to choosing options for patio doors. Classic and elegant, they will never go out of style, similar to uPVC Casement Windows. Depending on what materials you go for, there are a number of options and prices open to you.
Are French doors right for me?
Traditionally-speaking, French doors are better for those who have a smaller amount of space to work with. So a narrow house would suit French patio doors particularly well.
Because these are swing-out style with two hinges, they don’t take up a huge amount of space. For example, if you had a larger surface area to work with, you might want to opt for something like a bi-fold door.
In a more practical sense, French doors are ideal if you want to open out onto the world outside. They usually swing outwards rather than inwards, which is perfect for opening out the back-end of your home when you want to create some circulation and another entrance into your garden from your property.
Pricing
The absolute starting price for a set of French doors is around £385, which excludes any labour costs at all. However, this isn’t always a realistic figure to work with. Once you start to add labour costs, you begin to reach a more average price.
If you are converting a window into a set of French doors, for example, you can expect the few days of labour and installation to cost around £750.
youtube
However, If you were planning on replacing an old pair of patio doors for a brand new pair of uPVC versions, you could expect the total job to just anywhere up to £900, as this takes into account one and a half days’ labour, the cost of the brand new doors and any extra costs on top.
The price of this could increase if you are looking for doors that have much bigger dimensions. This could also be affected if you’re looking for more alternative frame materials such as aluminium, as the cost of these to manufacture is much higher.
However, one price that doesn’t really waver the price of your French doors will be to what extent they are glazed. Half and fully-glazed doors cost around the same price; which one you opt for is a matter of personal taste. Just know that fully-glazed doors will let in more light and create a clearer view of the great outdoors.
Installation
Tumblr media
There are legal stipulations regarding thermal efficiency when it comes to glazed windows and doors. If you feel ambitious enough to install your French doors yourself, you should know that you must meet these regulations.
This means that when you install them, they must be completely sealed off from the outside world, which must be determined by your local authorities. It is, therefore, much wiser to get a professional installation.
French doors are never going out of style; that you can be sure. When it comes to cost, this will very much depend on the size of the doors and the materials you opt for. Labour costs can be excluded from the price, but the ordeal of installing them yourself might not be worth the savings.
