The first time Neville kisses Hannah they’re both on the worse end of a drinking contest. Neville thought he was losing, but later decides that Hannah must have been drunker than she seemed because she kissed him back.
The second time Neville kisses Hannah it’s been two months since he last set foot in the Leaky Cauldron and before he can open his mouth to apologize for his drunken behavior, Hannah’s reached across the bar and kissed him. Through the ringing in Neville’s ears and the hoots of the regulars she says “I just wanted to know what it would feel like sober.”
The third time Neville kisses Hannah he has come to the grim realization that Gran was right, and Dean was right, and Ginny was right, and Luna and Seamus and even Ron, they were all right, and it’s not the firewhisky that he’s addicted to, it’s the way her mouth moves when she says his name and it doesn’t take nearly as much liquor as the first time to work up the courage.
The fourth time Neville kisses Hannah it’s at the end of their first official date, and even though he spilt water all over her dress and tripped and scuffed his new shoes and he thinks it was a disaster Hannah still smiles and says she had a wonderful time and he’s so grateful that he kisses her without a drop of Ogden’s in his system.
The fifth time Neville kisses Hannah he stops counting because she’s just called him her boyfriend and maybe this is going to last for a while.
