they're never gonna properly follow up on the 'odo was a collaborator during the occupation no matter how you slice it' points brought up in necessary evil/things past or his Outright Betrayal like A FEW MONTHS AGO for them and potential threads of how kira making an exception for him because she likes him is a point of hypocrisy are they. this is a complete plot now
TWO FULL SEASONS of the odo pining plotline and MAYBE TWO FULL MINUTES of kira's point of view on it and THAT'S how they get together???????????
#grrrrrr#these aren't elements that make me dislike the idea of them as a couple! if they did i wouldn't like garashir!#it's ignoring the points of conflict when so much of the Whole Show plays with similar conflicts and grey areas that pisses me off!

#like obviously being a changeling makes whether he has gender at all pretty tenuous#but also he's going to be MOST familiar with cardassian and bajoran gender!#signifiers from 400y ago from halfway across the galaxy in vegas of all places are gonna be as foreign to him as the slang vic's using#which is funny in a paltry way and also tense verging on uncomfortable

there's this borderline hysterical laugh garak breaks into a couple of times during the early seasons that is so special to me. like. this man. this man is so high (constantly) and probably drunk (frequently) and he's at all times teetering on the very brink of despair that only pure spite, immense stubbornness, and getting to gaze at julian bashir's smiling face across the lunch table once a week is holding him back from tipping over. and then he has to deal with people like skrain dukat and gul toran on top of that and you can practically hear the cracks forming as he's barely holding on to whatever remains of his sanity by the skin of his teeth
