The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) would frequently say in his supplications, “O Allah, I ask you for health, abstinence, trustworthiness, good character, and contentment with providence.”

The Sahabah asked the Prophet about the buildings of Paradise and he replied with a wonderful description: “Bricks of gold and silver, and mortar of fragrant musk, pebbles of pearl and sapphire, and soil of saffron. Whoever enters it is filled with joy and will never feel miserable; he will live there forever and never die; their clothes will never wear out and their youth will never fade.”[Sourced from Ahmad, at-Tirmidhi, ad-Daarimee according to IslamWay.com]

Remember Allāh frequently, and, as a result, Allāh will make you less desirous of this world (and its pleasures and possessions). Remember death, and, as a result, Allāh will make your worldly affairs easier for you. Yearn for Paradise, and, as a result, Allāh will help you obey Him. Be frightened by the Hellfire, and, as a result, Allāh will make it easier for you to endure the hardships of this life.”

When lovers are not able to meet, the best thing is to send a book or a letter. The lover reads that letter over and over. That is what the Qurʾān is - a book, a letter from Allāh (ﷻ). From the Beloved, to you. And because you love Allāh (ﷻ), you read it over and over.

One of the reasons that the Prophet lost his father, mother, grandfather, uncles, aunties, sons and daughters in his blessed life was to teach mankind that Allah tests the believers with hardship but that should not prevent them from emulating the Beloved who went through this pain, yet spent his entire life soothing the hearts of others with his beautiful smile. ﷺ

A good point was made at yesterday’s khutbah that I wanted to share. The shiekh was going on about how these are the first 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah and how all our deeds are multiplied, so do a lot of good (as mentioned a lot of times before). Then he mentioned how we usually don’t have the same excitement for Eid al-Adha as we do for Eid al-Fitr, especially considering how Eid al-Adha is the bigger Eid. He said this is so because Eid al-Fitr comes immediately after Ramadan where we’re commanded to pray our obligated prayers, fast, and pray taraweeh. Some may even go the extra mile and pair all these obligated acts of worship with voluntary ones, such as reading Quran, seeking knowledge about the Deen, and so forth. By the time Eid al-Fitr comes, we actually have something to celebrate. But unfortunately, for Eid al-Adha we don’t prepare ourselves in the same manner. We may pray our obligated prayers, but that’s probably it. We don’t fast, read Quran, pray qiyyam, and so on. In a way, we don’t really have something to “celebrate.” It really made me think when he said this because Eid al-Fitr is the “big” Eid for me a lot of the times, despite it actually being the small Eid. I just wanted to give everyone the reminder given to me: please pair your obligated acts of worship with voluntary ones in these remaining days. Fast tomorrow, the day after, and all the remaining days, especially the Day of Arafah. Read some Quran. Get up in the last third of the night and pray qiyyam when Allah SWT comes down to the lowest level of Paradise looking to forgive His servants. We still have time till Eid al-Adha; it’s not too late.
