Well, it finally happened. My Warrior Cats hyperfixation is officially, just... Over. I'm still gonna leave this sideblog up because I still enjoy the art I made and posted here, and I largely still am very passionate about the topics of posts I reblogged, but lately I've been kind of falling out of love with Warrior Cats and the fandom as a whole. I think that kind of is because of two main reasons.
Number one, the Warrior Cats I fell in love with isn't the same as the Warrior Cats of today, and it simply never will be. This series is old enough to drink in America, it predates my own existence by about six years, and the writing team has changed so much that a lot of the charm of the first series simply can't be replicated today.
And number two is... Well, that's gonna be a bit of a chore to explain. See, in most fandoms I'm in, a good chunk of, if not all of the source material holds up without fandom content. Like, Hatchetfield is a genuinely good, well written series of musicals, with interesting lore and characters, so if there was an alternate universe where the fandom simply didn't exist, I'd still like it. With Warrior Cats, however... Well, it's just kind of a bad series. Sure, the first arc is well written and good, and some of the super editions are phenomenal, but it has a slow decline in quality you can start to see even in arc 2, meaning most of the fandom ends up consuming the series through fanmade content because that's simply just... The most enjoyable way to consume it. So as a series, Warrior Cats doesn't have that same quality needed to stand alone without a fandom, because often a lot of what keeps people interested is the fandom itself.
Additionally, there's this theory I have that out of any fandom, a specific, very small percentage of the fandom is going to be... kind of bad in some way. Like, outright misogyny, incest ships, misinterpreting other people's opinions and headcanons... that sort of stuff. As a fandom gets larger, that percentage remains the same; but if you did a whole unit on percentages, fractions, and now they work, you know that the sheer amount of people that represent a small percentage also grows as the number of people in the whole increases. Like, 1/5 of 5 is 1, but 1/5 of 100 is 20. And Warrior Cats is obviously a huge fucking fandom, so when this same rule is applied, there's a bigger amount of "bad fans" in this fandom than there are in smaller ones, despite having the exact same percentage.
Lately, it sort of feels like to meet the only real saving grace of the series is, in some cases, the fandom itself, and when the bad percentage of fans is so much harder to avoid, it's only natural that some fans, like me, will just get burnt out with the series as a whole.
So, yeah, I'm kind of leaving the Warrior Cats fandom. I'll probably reblog stuff onto here occasionally, or make the occasional drawing of the characters I like, but I simply just can't really enjoy the series in the same ways I used to. Hell, the only way I HAD been enjoying it on the tail end of my hyperfixation was with rewrites of the series itself where everything had to be entirely overhauled, such as @cryptidclaw and @bonefall and their honestly brilliant rewrites of the series. So, I think it's kind of fair of me to want to find a series that DOESN'T need extensive fanmade rewrites to be enjoyed, and while I'll still enjoy those specific rewrites, they'll be entirely divorced from Warrior Cats, the canon, because it just isn't good enough to hold my interest anymore.
I just wanted to share my rambling thoughts in hopes of finding other people who, y'know, shared my sort of mixed feelings, and also because it somehow felt wrong to not leave some sort of goodbye and an explanation for why I'm leaving a fandom that had been a huge part of my life for the better part of four years. Feel free to reblog this with your own thoughts and opinions on this sorta thing, I'd really appreciate some other fan insight onto this topic.
Now if you excuse me, I need a nap.

I know you don’t rewrite arcs until they’re done, but I love hearing about your early ideas while I brood over how badly this arc has let me down. Do you have any like super vague ideas about Splashtail’s motivations yet? He’s like a way worse Hawkfrost in my mind, because they’re both very young cats who Are Just Evil. But Hawkfrost had a genuinely interesting backstory that the Erin’s simply fumbled, meanwhile Splashtail is a cartoonishly evil atheist. I feel nothing towards him, he’s not intimidating or interesting or even funny. Save me Bonefall save me (if I got something wrong please ignore it, these books are so disappointing my brain is making me forget them to protect itself.)
If it helps at all, I'm staying sane with the observation that Hawkfrost is a high charisma character making critical failure rolls, while Splashtail is a cringefail loser with no stats rolling nat20s. He becomes 50% more sufferable when you imagine a long, pungent pause after anything he says, broken only by the sound of an offscreen player tossing some dice. When the silence is broken, it's whatever NPC has been charmed speaking in the beleaguered voice of the dungeon master.
SO my early thoughts are shaping up to be that I'd like to do a slightly more serious version of that.
BB!Splashtail is the Clan equivalent of a 19-year-old, desperate for more power and respect in his society. In terms of his stats, he's promising but not outstanding. A decent fighter, a competent leader. Even in terms of lineage; his father is Sneezecloud, a respected trader and negotiator, but his mother is Havenpelt. An ex-rogue who has sworn to live by the ways of RiverClan.
Curlfeather is the one with the plans. She's the one with vision. Daughter of Reedwhisker, grandchild of Mistystar, with grand leaders like Bluestar, Oakheart, and Crookedstar in her past, greatness runs in her blood. Scandal, too-- but for some reason it's acceptable that her great-grandparents were codebreaking traitors.
Splashtail hates Curlfeather, but he can't get anywhere unless he tries to be her. He steals HER plans. He acts like SHE does. Manages to snatch power from her paws, and then has no idea what to do with it.
I'm thinking that I want his reign to be going smoothly at first, actually, going from a bit of a bossy jerk, to trying to enact Curlfeather's ambitions by launching fights and doing it badly, to active tyranny as he tries to keep control over RiverClan. Depending on how Star goes, I might have Berryheart make some kind of move to seize power over him.
At the core of how I see him though, is that Splashtail has no plan. His ideology leans Thistle Law... in a sort of dumbass 4Channer kind of way. He talks a big game about the glory of battle, but folds fast when his enemy can punch back. The only person he could successfully manipulate was a traumatized child. He will bring back pureblooded glory to the Clan, except his personal family of course
As for the Evil Atheism stuff... lol. Lmao, even. Not needed. If I need to make him a more powerful and serious danger, it's not going to come from the fact he's godless. If being an atheist gave you super murder powers, Bill Nye would have used them to obliterate half of the US government by now.
Depending on how the last book of ASC goes,
The Harelight kill is probably going to get changed to Hallowflight. Harelight watches his dad die, and Splashstar is drenched in the blood of one of RiverClan's most famous heroes. No turning back after that.
On that note I'd also make the fight longer and bloodier. A butchery of an execution showcasing Splashtail fighting like a beast and Hallowflight like a trained warrior.
I REAALLY want to make Splashtail's death a drowning. Curlfeather, demon she is now, finishes him off by dragging him under. To protect her daughter. They will have to do something VERY satisfying for me to not do this.

i think a scene alot of ppl dont talk ab (iirc anyway) is how when scourge killed tigerstar in front of firestar, firestar had this momentary anger / envy almost, because he wanted to kill tigerstar. he wanted to be the one to put him to justice after everything he'd done to ruin firestars life. there was a short amount of time where, besides the initial shock, firestar felt bloodlust and i think that is so cool and should be utilized more

Was reminded of this post and I'm suddenly filled with the urge to flat out make them. I am cringe but I am free and I just think he'd be fun to draw.
One of these days I am going to make neon sparklecat warriors OC who is Scourges son, transgender, and super gay. And also evil. And who has been arrested for committing murder and tax fraud but broke out of jail because they're just that cool. And also they're the leader of BloodClan and they took all of Firestar's nine lives as revenge. But today is not that day.

I just came up with one of the best Warrior Cats OC ideas yet in my sleep, of all things, and I. I need to do something about this.

I always liked Ravenpaw. Not sure if it's because I started reading Warrior Cats the same time I read "The Outsiders" but he always remembered me to Johnny Cade.
More information:
o As a kit he looked more relaxed and with a clean fur (like later on) but after Redtail's death he started to be careless with his look and his hair got messy. Once in the barn Barley helped him to start taking care of himself again.
o When he gets old, his muzzle becomes grey-haired as well as the tip of his ears and overall has a lighter tone than when he was young. His ear's hair also get some white hair. As he gets sick, he gets baggy eyes and slightly messy hair.

sorry to spam you, but. what happens with scourge in your rewrite? he’s my favorite <3
Please, don't ever apologize for sending lots of asks! I love answering them and they can help me think of things I hadn't thought about before, or flesh an arc out. Send as many as you want, all of you!
Anyways, Scourge, the literal scourge of my brain, because I've had to rewrite him 3 different times.
This little guy has been reworked SO much. The first was to tell the story of a downfall, how sometimes people become worse than the people who hurt them, and pay for it, but showing that there was still 'Tiny' in there, having The Rise Of Scourge end with his spirit, now back to being Tiny, reuniting with Quince, while his older self faded away.
I... Hated the vibe. And I'm probably gonna save THAT kind of ending for someone else...
I then changed it to be somewhat more like Better Bones, but with Scourge remaining leader of Bloodclan.... But that also doesn't line up with the themes of Graystripe's Clan and Ravenpaw's Path, where Fury and Neo Bloodclan come into play.
I didn't wanna kill him. I didn't want him to join Thunderclan. I didn't want him to stay in Bloodclan....
Then, it hit me.
So... Meet the new Scourge. He can say the F word.
Scourge
His story is one about coming back from the brink of no return.
Firestar has noticed something about Scourge. The fur around his neck has rubbed off, his voice is brittle, swallowing is so difficult that he drools a bit, his breathing is shallow, and he's... Painfully underweight. Now, aside from the terrifying thought that is "how strong would this guy be if he WAS properly nourished?", he realizes that even if Scourge manages to make it through this battle, he will most likely not make it to next season.
In a flash, Firestar leaps onto Scourge's back, and sinks his teeth into his scruff and collar. Just like his new deputy Longtail did to him, he begins to pull, hoping and praying that Starclan will grant another miracle.
The collar snaps, just as Scourge is about to pass out, he takes in his first deep breath in ages. Firestar pays for it with his first life.
Swiftpaw, now posthumously named Swiftclaw, is chosen as his first life to lose. He feels the pain and terror and rage and desperation that Swiftclaw did, but he also puts pieces together. Why did this happen? The real why. Not just the dogs getting a taste for cat. Not Tigerstar's seemingly unending thirst for power. Before all that.
This problem is the fault of the Clans. Churning out radicalized youths who will hurt others because of the instilled belief that Might Makes Right. Sure, Scourge has taken things too far, and seems hellbent on revenge, but the seeds of this bloody battle were planted on Clan Land.
Blackfoot, Brokenstar, Leopardstar, Mistfang, Darkstripe, Longtail, even Crookedstar and Nightstar have all fallen victim to this belief at one point of another. Tigerstar was not made in a vacuum. This kind of "kill or be killed" mentality is not making the Clans strong, it is getting cats killed.
He sees another vision of himself fighting Scourge, killing him. But his sight flickers, and it makes him sick. Scourge's build is so much like Princess. His eyes the same shade of blue that Cloudtail has. He sees his own loved ones in the one he is fighting. He is sinking his teeth and claws into his own Kin.
And then, finally, he sees the vision of Tigerpaw being goaded by Thistleclaw to beat Tiny. Then Thistlepaw being rewarded by Adderfang for sparring with a Riverclan apprentice and tearing their ear. Adderfang charging into battle alongside his father, too eager to take a life from Heatherstar Heatherstep. Tigerclaw berating Darkpaw for failing a training exercise. Darkstripe getting his new apprentice Longpaw to eat prey instead of giving it to the sick elder... The vision ending with Longtail touching noses with the newly named Swiftpaw, a line of cats behind him so long it stretches into the shadows, endless kittens behind Swiftpaw, a mentorship doomed before it even began. Generations of cats hurting each other with no end in sight.
Enough is enough.
When he comes back to life, he slams against Scourge, dodging his attack again, and looking around to confirm his worst fears. All of Bloodclan's cats are fully grown. The Clans have brought apprentices. This victory is for the future, to Save The Clans as Fire Alone.
He slams Scourge against the ground, and knocks him out. However, Rooster, a Bloodclan cat, cries out that Scourge has been killed. To be fair to Rooster, Scourge is laying limp at the feet of Lionclan's leader.
While many Bloodclan cats scurry away, some to one day become Neo Bloodclan, Firestar taps the ground to call attention to Snowpaw, using a bit of Body Speaking to silently tell the deaf apprentice to sneak Scourge to camp, grabbing Scourge's torn collar and hiding it for later.
Bloodclan negotiations begin with the cats who stay and will later be seen in Graystripe's Clan.
Meanwhile, Snowpaw drags Scourge through the woods and sneaks him into Cinderpelt's den, scaring Cinderpelt half to death. She begins to treat Scourge, removing the enforced claw tips and gathering some food for him to eat without getting sick from the influx of sudden nutrition. Snowpaw is so friendly that he manages to become friends with Scourge while he is slowly recovering, hidden in the back of Cinderpelt's den and slowly putting on some weight as he eats with his friend while getting more comfortable with others. None of this would have happened if Snowkit had been taken by that hawk...
Eventually, he is healthy enough to groom himself properly and walk around. But... What now? Can he stay in Thunderclan? Would that be a safe option for him? Firestar is still teaching cats to unlearn their biases, and Scourge may be subject to suspicion and discrimination, which isn't fair to him.
Firestar talks with Princess, and the answer is clear.
His housefolk are not home now, haven't been in a week, but... Smudge is pretty lonely. Rusty left a bit of a hole there, he could use a good friend.
Scourge is brought to Smudge's home in the dark of the night, collar in his teeth, and welcomed inside. His collar tag reads 'Tiny' but with no phone number or microchip, Smudge's people take him in as their own, and Smudge isn't so lonely anymore.
Firestar left housecat life to be wild, proving himself with a broken collar, and Scourge is leaving wild life to be a housecat once more, saving himself with a broken collar.
He is seen during Firestar's Quest, slightly chubby and full of energy, and I might have him go on the Quest with them to round out the party. The important thing is, he is happy.
Princess's Short Story, currently unnamed, is about her passing, visiting her old friends and family as a spirit. She finds Scourge's spirit, along with Quince, Socks, and Smoke, enjoying a peaceful afterlife together.
He is allowed a place in Starclan and Sky-Starclan, and will reappear during Beyond The Stars as a supporting cast member.

so i've been listening to the warrior cats audiobooks and there's this scene where fireheart is explaining to bramblepaw and tawnypaw that their father tigerstar is a traitor and it's really dramatic and ends with bramblepaw getting upset and running away but at the beginning it said that fireheart tucked his paws under him so all i could think about was how he was loafing

Warrior Cats but Mapleshade regains her sanity after dying and desperately wants to reunite with her kits in StarClan. Unfortunately, too many cats remember her as “evil”, so she’s trapped in the Dark Forest.
Appledusk, on the other hand, is bitter about his death and is very much eager to get some form of revenge on Mapleshade. It’s not enough to mock her from where StarClan and the Dark Forest meets. He needs to make sure she suffers.
“Crookedstar’s Promise” still happens, but Mapleshade was trying to somehow replace her own kits with the troubled young cat she found in the living world. It’s Appledusk who toys with his descendant, convincing him that Mapleshade was causing all of his misery and effectively turning him against her.
Time and time again, Mapleshade tries to find peace by entering the minds of young cats and caring for them when their own kin cannot or will not. Part of her hopes that if these cats remember her as she really is, then maybe she could enter StarClan one day.
But every time, Appledusk finds out which cats she’s visiting and tells them all about how Mapleshade betrayed her Clan, allowed her kits to drown, and murdered innocent cats. Of course, he never mentions his own wrongdoings. That would defeat the purpose of all his hard work.
Over time, Mapleshade begins to lose hope, and she begins listening more to the Dark Forest cats around her. Maybe if she gave in and joined their ugly mindsets, she’d be able to find some sort of peace. But the thought of giving up on her kits, and letting Appledusk win, is unbearable to her. And so she decides to try one more time.
Hollypaw is more than confused when she dreams of a dreary forest and the fading figure of a tortoiseshell queen.

I want to make it clear that I do not support AI, but I do not believe that Warriors is using it to make covers now. These claims discredit the very real artist, Owen Richardson, who must be overworked and underpaid.
A lot of the claims of blur, harsh lighting, and lack of anatomical accuracy can be boiled down to his style and not being a cat artist. His portfolio shows he draws a lot of humans and scenery with similar lighting.
Do I like a lot of the covers? Eh, no... but I think the claims are unfair.
