Myrkur, led by singer and multi-instrumentalist Amalie Bruun, has become known as one of the more captivating and unique artists in the black metal scene over the last half of the 2010s. And while her previous albums have had a strong folk influence, Folkesange is the first album to be entirely acoustic, featuring both traditional Scandinavian folk songs as well as original compositions. Amalie is in full command of both the vocals and a variety of traditional instruments such as the nyckelharpa and talharpa.
As someone who loves folk music, this album is an instant classic in my book. I am hard pressed to pick favorite tracks as each one feels special and adds to the larger whole.
