Lily was standing on her bedroom’s balcony that overlooked the palace grounds sipping her morning coffee.
She heard somebody yell, it momentarily startled her but recovered quickly. It took her a moment for the voice to register. Maxwell. There was no surprise there to be honest.
She leaned over the banister a little bit more to see Maxwell running from something. Soon what he was running from came into focus...a peacock?
Maxwell continued to run. Now she was fully able to see him without having to lean over. He tripped over something, his own feet knowing Maxwell, and face planted the grass. He groaned, turning on his back to now be able to see his peacock looming over him.
He put his hands up in defence. “Alright buddy lets just calm down a bit.”
Maxwell scurried back as it got closer to him. When there was enough distance between Maxwell and the peacock, he got to his feet. He kept his arms out in front of him in an attempt to keep the bird at some distance away from him.
“ I think it’s time I teach you about respect!” Maxwell bellowed as the bird lunged at him. He narrowly missed the birds attack, nearly tripping again as he dodged another attack.
Lily watched in anticipation as she felt two arms wrap around her. “What are you doing out here?” Drake asked, nuzzling his face into her neck.
“That,” she said, nodding over the banister at Maxwell who was still trying to subdue the bird. Drake couldn't help but laugh as Maxwell started running again.
“Should we help him?” Lily asked, “I feel like we should.”
“We could but…”
“But?” she asked, turning around to see Drake holding his phone pointing it down over the railing at Maxwell. “Are you seriously filming it?” she lightly scolded.
“Why not?” He shrugged, “It’s entertainment gold.” He wasn't wrong.

Wacky drabble #32: Your song

Lily sat on her bed with her guitar in her lap. She looked down to the book on the bed beside her with the cords she needed to play. It had been awhile since she had a moment to do this- she had missed it.
Lily cleared her throat then placed her fingers in the right positions as she started to strum the strings with her right hand, focusing on playing the right chords and when to jump in singing.
“It's a little bit funny this feeling inside I'm not one of those who can easily hide, I Don't have much money but boy if I did I'd buy a big house where we both could live,” she started. “ If I was a sculptor, heh, but then again, no. Or a man who makes potions in a travelling show, I know it's not much, but it's the best I can do. My gift is my song, and this one's for you.”
By now any anxiety had worn off completely. She, of course, was on her own but she was scared of somebody hearing her, that was kind of ludicrous, the palace was massive and nobody was in the royal chambers with her.
Lily was fourteen and had recently started to get back into music. It was her number one hobby, her passion. Her voice still needed some work, it wasnt perfect but she was talented, but self doubt was something that was definitely present.
Her father’s birthday was coming and so Lily was practising her singing and playing so she could sing her dad's favourite song for his special day.
Soon she reached the chorus, “ And you can tell everybody this is your song It may be quite simple, but now that it's done I hope you don't mind, I hope you don't mind That I put down in words How wonderful life is while you're in the world.”
Lily continued with the song until she was finished. She was startled when somebody spoke, “You lied.” She recognized that voice. Drake.
She slowly turned her head to see him leaning in her doorway. She was so into what she was doing that she didn't hear her door be pushed open or anyone come into the royal chambers.
“I didn't Lie,” she said, placing her guitar down beside her on the bed as Drake took a seat. “I’ve never lied to you.”
“Have too. You said and I quote ‘when I sing I sound like a cat being strangled in an alleyway late at night’ which you don’t by the way.” Lily felt herself blushing so looked down into her lap to look at her hands, to try and hide it. Drake started laughing so she looked up at him, raising a brow.
“What? What’s so funny?”
“You’re just a bit awkward, it’s kind of cute,” Drake explained.
“I am not cute,” She said, trying to be serious but a smile was pulling at the corner of her mouth. “What are you even doing here anyway?” she asked, after realising he was in her bedroom, in the royal chambers for no reason she could think of and wanting desperately to change the subject.
“Liam might need your help.”
“What? What’s happened now?”
“Well, we were playing soccer outside and the ball might have hit him in the eye and it's...erm a bit bruised.”
Lily held back a laugh, “I thought Leo was supposed to be the troublemaker...give me a few minutes and I’ll find something to cover it up with.”
“Thanks,” Drake said. He walked over to the door, stopped and turned to look at her. “You really are good by the way,” he said, nodding as the guitar sat beside her then headed out. Lily smiled at him as he left, shutting the door behind him. She really was beginning to fall for her brother’s best friend.

Wacky drabble #31: We all need a little help sometimes.

Anxiety. This was something Lily often had to deal with but she did normally without too much of a problem. Anxiety, although it could often be crippling, was the least of her problems.
She remembered the first time she had a panic attack. She was fourteen, nearly fifteen, when she was attending a ball. She stood by the ballroom doors with her brothers, father and stepmother when the world around her started to spin and breathing became an unnecessarily difficult task.
She had them more and more throughout the years, especially during her teenage years when it got increasingly bad. The thing that annoyed her was she was never able to pinpoint what caused them. What her trigger was. They’d always come seemingly out of nowhere.
Lily was nineteen now and she hadn’t had one for a month, to everyone else that seemed like a minuscule thing, but to her? It was amazing. Before that she barely went a day without having one, not that anyone seemed to notice it anyway.
She understood, her father was the king for god sake and wasn’t the most affectionate of people. Leo was learning everything he’d need to know for when the crown was passed down to him, between his disappearances and flamboyant trips around the world that was. As for Liam, well he had his own life, they weren’t joined at the hip so he didn’t notice either. Regina, yes, she was Lily’s stepmother, but Lily very much doubted the woman would be able to help her with her anxiety, so keeping that all in mind, she was left to deal with it on her own.
Lily had always been closer with her eldest brother, they were just more alike than her and Liam were, so occasionally he’d be the one to quell all her fears away, if he was there that was.
Today the whole family was taking a trip to Ramsford for the annual Beaumont bash. This was Lily’s favourite event, it wasn’t formal in any shape or form like every other event was. The thought of being around so many people had her anxiety rearing its head.

Wacky drabble #24:  Preparation is key
This is my contribution to @emceesynonymroll Wacky Drabble Challenge. The prompt is: They needed to prepare for the next morning. The prompt will appear in bold.
Paring: Drake x Lily.
Word count: 495
A/N: All characters belong to Pixelberry except Lily.
Permatag: @desiree-0816
Drake x Lily tags: @addictedtodrakefanfic, @msjr0119
They needed to prepare for the next morning. She said this more times than Drake could count in the last seven days.
Constantine had one massive fit when he discovered who his daughter was ‘courting’ with as he had put it, but he had seen the young man grows up, he knew Drake would never do anything to hurt his little girl. He may have not been happy about it, happy about any of his kids growing up, but he was overjoyed that they had all found somebody they each wanted to spend the rest of their lives with. That would make any parent happy.
Lily and Constantine were vaguely butting heads these days, he wasn’t butting heads with anyone really, that being quite a rare thing. The truth was Constantine was dying and just wanted to spend some time with his children, to see them happy before his time came.
Lily and Drake had just moved into their own apartment within the palace, they would’ve preferred to not live within the palace but Lily wanted to be near her father and Drake understood that.
Drake sat at the dining table in their kitchen watching his girlfriend pace. “Lily-”
“You have got to take this seriously, Drake.” Lily plopped back down in her chair opposite Drake, in front of the fully laid out table.
For the last week Lily had taught Drake proper dining etiquette. What every fork, spoon and knife meant and it was starting to drive him mad.
“Remember not to hold the cutlery like a pen and to work your way inwards with each course… she rambled, she stopped when Drake placed a hand on hers. she looked up at him, not pleased that he was smiling.
“Babe it’s going to be fine. I promise, Lil. How hard can eating be?”
“Have you met my dad?” she scoffed, “He can be picky. I remember my first stately dinner, i used the wrong fork and he lost it. You would’ve thought i had committed a terrible crime. I just want this to go well, Drakey. Remember to call him ‘you’re majesty’ when we first greet him, then ‘sir’ afterwards-”
“Lily,” he interrupted again, “I know. Nothing is going to go wrong. Think about this logically for a sec, we’re having brunch with your parents and your brothers, it’s not a stately dinner, Lily, nothing really can go wrong, right?”
“Have you not heard a single word I have said? Plenty can go wrong, it’s almost guaranteed with Leo’s presence and he’s bringing his wife, who Liam and I have never met and well I’m introducing you as my boyfriend, to my family, who you have met and know what they’re like.”
“Nothing is going to go wrong, okay? I know what every one of those knives and forks are for, i know how to greet your dad and Regina. Lily, I’ve got this shit on lock, it’ll be fine.”
“Promise?”
“Promise,” he repeated.

Wacky drabble #19: I miss you, mum
This is my contribution to @emceesynonymroll Wacky Drabble Challenge. The prompt is: Who hurt you? The prompt will appear in bold.
Paring: Lily x Drake
Word count: 830
Lily x Drake tags: @addictedtodrakefanfic, @msjr0119
Permatag: @desiree-0816
Lily sat on her bed, her room growing dark as she continued to cry, the photograph clutched in her hand as the loud sobs wracked her body.
it had been ten years, ten years of bottling up how she felt about her mother’s death, ten years since she and her brothers watched their mother die. As far as  Leo was concerned, Eleanor was his mother, his own had abandoned him.
Like every year her father acted as if nothing had happened, as if it was just a minor hiccup, like he supposedly did when Leo’s mother had jumped ship.
She loved how close she was to her brothers, especially Leo considering there was seven years between them. But like her brother’s Lily had been made to hide her feelings, it was hardly surprising all three of them struggled to show emotions, after they had been basically manufactured to be robotic when it came to such things, which is what brought her to where she was now, sat in the dark, alone and crying, wishing more than anything her father could be more human and understand that yes he lost his wife, but his kids lost their mother.
Constantine knew what losing a parent felt like and he was also young when his own parents died, but the man just didn’t have emotions, or if he did they must’ve been so far buried that he just didn’t know how to show them anymore.
Lily let a few more tears cascade down her tear stained cheeks, blinking a couple times until the photograph of herself, Constantine, Eleanor and her brothers that was taken only a few weeks before that tragic day came properly into focus.
Her mother’s death did change him, but it changed all of them in different ways. Lily had spent her life growing up solely around men after her mother’s death. Regina in all fairness had tried to be close to the kids, but for Leo this was his second stepmother and when she came into the picture he felt that blow of his mother being replaced again and then Liam loved his mother so, so much and Regina would never be able to fill that hole and so he only viewed her as the evil stepmother, as for Lily it was just another person that didn’t know how to express their emotions like a normal human being.
“W-who h-hurt y-you?” Lily cried, her tears sliding down her cheeks and dripping onto the photograph.
It had been ten years, a full decade of not knowing who had killed her mother. Who had murdered the kindest person she had ever known.
“It’s okay,” his voice said. She hadn’t heard anybody come in. She immediately started to panic as she was pulled toward the person. “Lil it’s okay,” He whispered into her hair.
Lily ceased her crying, sniffling as his voice began to register. Drake. It couldn’t be, he was away at college, he had left her like everybody always seemed to do.
Lily wiped at her eyes as she pulled back, as her lamp on her bedside table was flicked on. There he sat, Drake Walker. He looked a little different, his face unshaved, that needs to go, she thought. He was a little bit more muscular than he was when he left, but nevertheless it was him.
“D-drake,” she stuttered, changing her posture so she was sat with her back straight, her chin up like a princess was supposed to sit.
Drake gave her a sad look, knowing full well what she was doing and wishing she wasn’t.
“Do you want to talk about it?” Drake asked. He knew what happened to Eleanor was different to what happened to his father, but he understood what losing a parent felt like, he had grew all too familiar with that sort of emptiness you were filled with when such a thing happened.
Eleanor was kind to him, never treated him badly because of his status, or rather the lack of.
Lily nodded and Drake gave her a small and encouraging smile. People said that time would make it easier, but for Lily it hadn’t, time meant that the last day she had spent with her mother got further and further away, and as that happened the feel of her mother’s arms around her faded, and she couldn’t remember the sound of her voice, time was slowly killing the memories she had of her.
“I miss her,” she said. Drake heard her voice crack, knowing any minute despite of how strong Lily made herself out to be she was going to break.
Drake instinctively pulled her into his chest as a loud, heart-breaking sob wracked her body. His fingers ran through her hair soothing her, as her tears soaked his shirt, but he wasn’t paying attention to that right now. He didn’t know why but holding her as she cried her heart out seemed like the most natural thing in the world.

Wacky drabble #20: Doing the right thing
This is my contribution to @emceesynonymroll Wacky Drabble Challenge. The prompt is: Have you lost your mind? The prompt will appear in bold.
Paring: Lily x Drake
Word count: 964
A/N: All characters belong to Pixelberry except Lily. This is set just after the royal heir book 1 after they find out about Godfrey. I wasn’t going to post this after the last couple of days but I ended up deciding too.

“Have you lost your mind?!” Lily bellowed at her twin brother as she stormed into the room, Drake trailing behind her. Liam, Leo and Regina stood from the table, walking around it to greet her.
Lily balled her fist and soon it connected with the kings jaw. Liam stumbled back, Leo catching him before he fell as Drake wrapped his arms around his fiancés waist, yanking her back before she could deck her brother again.
“Lil, calm down,” Drake instructed as she fought to get out of his grip. Liam cleared his throat, dabbing at his lip, as his sister relaxed and stopped fighting against Drake.
When he was sure she had calmed down he let her go, still standing close to her in case she kicked off again. Lily shook her hand, wincing as  the pain from what she had just done hit her.
“Let me explain,” Liam pleaded.
She scoffed, shaking her head, “He killed mom and you’re letting him get away with it?”
“No,” Liam responded hurriedly. “I’m not letting him get away with it. He will go to prison and he will be punished for what he’s done.”
“This is exactly what you did with Anton. He killed dad, he nearly killed your wife and all you did was give him a slap on the wrist and sent him to prison. Execute the son of a bitch. Kill them both!”
Liam sighed, “Lily what would that achieve? Tell me what killing them would do? Because it won’t bring them back.”
“Are you serious?” She asked, stepping up closer to him, grinding her teeth together.
“Lily I really think you should calm down,” Leo suggested, stepping in front of Liam.
lily shoved her finger into her eldest brother’s face. “You do not get to come back whenever you like and tell me what to do, big brother,” she smirked.
“Can we not just discuss this like adults?” Regina chimed in. Lily glared at her brother then took a seat beside Drake.
The brothers sat opposite their sister as Regina took a seat beside Leo. Liam cleared his throat, rubbing his temple after a long night of trying to figure out what the right thing to do was.
Liam leaned forward, looking to his sister. “I am not letting him get away with it. Not for any longer anyway. I’ve thought long and hard about this, believe me.”
She scoffed, letting out a bitter chuckle. “Obviously not enough,” she chided, leaning back in her seat and crossing her arms over her chest.
Liam sighed, rubbing his hands over his tired eyes. “Do you honestly think I don’t want to kill him? It’s crossed my mind but if I did that then I’d just be as bad as him.  As bad as them both. Their actions are irredeemable, people died because of what they did-”
“No,” she interrupted, leaning forward on her elbows. “Not ‘people’ Liam. Our parents. Our mom and dad died because of those criminally insane men!”
“Yes,” Liam agreed. “Don’t you think that they deserve to be punished? Because that’s what I’m doing. They both will spend the rest of their lives in prison. If I had them executed they’d never truly be punished for what they’ve done, this way they do,” he explained.
Lily thought over her brother’s words. What he was saying made sense, she couldn’t deny that, but then her mind wandered back to all the people she’d lost because of them, the years she spent as a child scared she’d lose someone else because of that man and nearly losing Drake at the homecoming ball.
“No,” she mumbled, shaking her head. “I spent years terrified that I’d lose you, Leo or dad after mom died. He killed our mom, Liam! Anton killed Dad! Not to mention your wife had to give birth to your child in a ballroom and Drake got shot! Godfrey, he’s getting old, it isn’t that likely he’ll try something again, but Anton? He could get out somehow, h-he could do it all over again, Liam. I thought now that you have a child you’ve be a little bit more, I don’t know. Willing to do what’s necessary? Because it is necessary, Liam. It’s all well and good neutralizing the threat now, but what if next time you can’t?”
“Lily,” Liam started calmly. “None of that is going to happen. Anton is never getting out; you have to move on.”
“Li-“ Drake chimed in, sensing it was about to all kick off after Liam’s poor choice of words.
“Move on?” Lily asked , getting to her feet and slamming her hands down onto the table. “Move on?! He-they both killed people!”
“Lily-“ Leo started.
“No!” Lily turned to look at Leo. “You promised me, Leo. Do you remember? You promised me that what happened to mom would never happen again. You promised,” she breathed, trying to stop her voice cracking because the promise her brother made to her when she was little was the only thing that kept her from being scared, the only thing that gave her comfort, that her big brother would protect her.
“I know and I’m sorry,” Leo frowned.
“I don’t think you are. You hated dad and you-“ she turned to Regina. “What are you doing here? My mother had nothing to do with you and let’s face it you didn’t really love my dad. Did you know what Godfrey did? Were you apart of it? You spiteful old witch,” she seethed, her fists clenching by her side. Lily turned back to Liam, glaring daggers at him. “They deserve what’s coming to them and if you won’t give it to them, then I will. I have diplomatic immunity, there’s nothing you can do to stop me, you coward.”

Wacky drabble #18: Only a little crush

“Why do you look so happy?” Drake asked, as he descended the grand staircase, as lily took a parcel from a member of staff who promptly left after giving it to her. Lily quickly scanned around her, making sure everybody was gone. When she saw the man disappear around a corner, she ran over to Drake, throwing her arms around him.
Lily pulled back as Drake leant down and placed a quick peck on her lips. Lily held her parcel up, showing it to Drake.
“Gonna explain?”
“What are you doing tonight?” lily asked.
“Are you asking me out?” Drake teased, arching his brow.
“Maybe,” She said, tucking her lip between her teeth to fight back a smile. “So?”
“I’ll check my diary.”
“You have a diary?” She asked, unable to fight back her smile.
“Maybe…”
“Meet me in my room tonight. My parents and brothers are spending the weekend at Applewood and won’t be here, so we’ll be all alone and….”
“There you are!” Leo called, descending the staircase. Lily rolled her eyes, Drake smirking at the action as Lily turned to face her brother.
“Hi Drake,” Leo greeted.
“What?” Lily asked, not giving Drake a chance to reply to Leo.
“Dad wants you.”
“Why? What now?” Lily moaned, causing her brother and Drake to smile.
“He said something about rules for tonight. You remember what happened when you were left alone last time,” Leo smirked.
“That wasn’t my fault. That was Maxwell and his stupid antics,” she explained. Drake snickered behind her, earning a death glare from lily.
“That’s my cue to leave,” Drake said, fighting back a smile as he left in search of his best friend and Lily begrudgingly headed toward her father’s study.
********
That night Drake met Lily in her room after her parents and brothers had left for Applewood. Lily wrapped her arms around him as she pulled him into the room, standing on her tiptoes and kissing him deeply.
“So how come you haven’t gone to Applewood?” Drake said, flopping down onto bed. Lily picked up a few  textbooks from her desk then joined Drake on the bed.
“Studying.”
“Spanish, German, Croatian and French?” Drake asked, looking through the textbooks.
“Liam and Leo can speak fluently in all of them, but I can’t meaning they get to go to Applewood, and I have to stay here, that’s what my dad wanted to talk to me about. He wanted to make sure I knew the importance of being fluent in more that one language.”
“That’s a bit harsh,” Drake frowned.
“Welcome to my life. Anyway-“ Lily jumped up grabbing the parcel that had arrived earlier off her desk. She opened it smiling widely when she pulled out the contents.
“This is what you were so happy about?” Drake asked, his brow arching as he picked up Lily’s boxsets of Supernatural.
“Yes!” she smiled widely.
“Why?”
“Because who wouldn’t want to stare at Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles for hours?”
“Me! I don’t want to.”
Lily was quiet for a little while, she pulled her phone from her pocket, typing then shoving the device into Drake’s face.
“Look at him,” she yelled. Drake pushed her hand away from his face, his eyes adjusting to the photograph of a shirtless Jared Padalecki. “Look!”
“I’m looking and I am struggling to understand why you’re showing me,” Drake said, Lily detecting a hint of jealously in his voice.
lily pulled her phone back, glancing down at the screen, practically drooling. “He’s tall, he has lovely brown eyes and  long hair, abs…”
“I’m tall, I have brown eyes and long hair, I have abs,” Drake jumped in.
“Yeah, but…Just look.”
“What if I don’t see it?”
“Then I don’t see this working,” she stated matter of factly, gesturing to the both of them.
“Seriously?” Drake quipped.
“No,” she laughed, leaning in closer to him. “Of course not, you idiot,” she smirked. “It’s only a little crush.”
“Now-” she smiled, pulling back. “We have fourteen seasons to re-watch and then we can start season fifteen, ideally within the next few days before Liv, Leo or Maxwell spoils any more of it.”

Wacky drabble #17: First drinks
This is my contribution to @emceesynonymroll Wacky Drabble Challenge. The prompt is There is a certain taste to it. The prompt will appear in bold.
Word count: 780
Author note: All characters belong to Pixelberry. In this fic Liam and Leo have a little sister who is Liam’s twin.
Tumblr media
Finally Savannah was old enough to drink. She could legally drink it but couldn’t buy it for another three years, but her big brother could.
Drake had always promised he’d take her out and buy her first drink for her and finally the day had come.
Lilly, Liam’s twin sister, wondered into his room without knocking. She stood in the doorway as he slipped on his shirt.
“Do you mind?” Liam asked.
“Where are you going?”
“Out.”
“Where?” Lily pushed.
“It’s Savannah’s birthday, Drake promised to buy her a drink to celebrate,” Liam explained.
Lilly thought over what Liam had just said, “So Drake will be there?” Liam gave her a look, enough to tell her to stay away from his friend. “Oh chillax Li. He’s your best friend, as if I would. You are no fun.”
“She’s got a point,” Leo added, they turned to see him push himself off the doorframe and came further into the room.
Lily and Liam ignored their older brother and continued their conversation. “I want to come.”
“Why?”
“Because I’m good friends with Savannah, It’s her birthday, there will be alcohol-”
“Drake,” Leo added.
“Be quiet!” Lily yelled, “I’m coming whether you like it or not,” Lily said, spinning around to face her other brother, “Dad is looking for you. He said something about you not turning up for a lesson. He’s not happy.
After Lily had changed, Leo had made his feelings known about the futile lessons he had to partake in, and Liam had agreed that Lily could come they headed off to the bar where they’d be meeting Drake and Savannah.
The royal siblings made their way into the bar, their security trailing behind them,  people stared, like they always did when they’d go out in public.
They walked over to the table in the corner where the walkers sat. Liam and Lily both gave Savannah a hug and said happy birthday before taking a seat.
Lily tapped her fingers against the table looking over to Savannah, “it’s a big thing having your first drink.”
“Who invited you?” Drake teased.
“You don’t own the bar, Walker,” she retorted with a grin, “Although we all know you’d love too. Imagine the endless supply of alcohol you’d have.”
“I can’t help the fact I like a drink.”
Savannah took notice of the people looking at them, “Do people often stare?” she asked.
“Yep! Comes with the territory of being royal,” Lily explained, “You get used to it. Now are we gonna actually drink or not?”
The boys headed over to the bar leaving Savannah and Lily at the table. Lilly noticed Savannah staring at Liam.
“My brother?” Lily asked, “Seriously?”
Savannah turned back to her, her cheeks blushing a crimson red. “My brother?”
“So we both fancy each other’s brothers? I thought you had a thing for Bertrand?”
Savannah shrugged, “I don’t know. Bertrand is-well you know.”
“Yeah,” Lily nodded, “So Liam?”
“I don’t know. I just-“
“Is  it the blue eyes?” Lily interrupted, “According to Leo those piercing blues are a massive turn on,” Lily explained, making Savannah chuckle.
“What about Drake?”
“I know he’s grumpy and drinks more than someone his age probably should but…I don’t know, he’s nice to people he loves, he hates Olivia and Madeline, he shares my distain over the nobles, his family means more than anything to him.”
“He’s definitely got the protective big brother thing down.”
“Try having two of them. I love Liam and Leo but Jesus- I had to change three times before coming out, Savannah. Three times!”
“Because those outfits were wildly inappropriate,” Liam said, placing Lily’s drink in front of her and taking a seat as Drake did the same thing.
“I stand by what I said earlier, you are no fun, Liam Rys.”
“No, I just don’t see the appeal in causing a scandal.” Lily turned back to Savannah and Drake.
“Next time let’s bring Leo instead.”
Drake took a sip of his whiskey then turned to his baby sister, who was staring at her own glass of whiskey in front of her. “Are you actually going to try It Sav or stare at it?”
Savannah brought the glass to her lips, coughing slightly when the strong smell of alcohol wafted up her nose.
Savannah broke out into a coughing fit as it burned down her throat. Drake clapped her on the back. Savannah wiped at her eyes that were starting to water.
“You okay?” Drake asked.
“That is horrible,” she coughed, staring at the glass in front of her.
“There is a certain taste to it,” Lily mentioned.
“Never again,” Savannah insisted, pushing the glass away from her.

Wacky drabble #16: It’s never too early for Christmas.
This is my contribution to @emceesynonymroll Wacky Drabble Challenge. The prompt is Was I not supposed to? The prompt will appear in bold.
Word count: 996
Pairing: Drake x Riley
Tumblr media
It was only Friday 15th November and so far Riley had resisted the urge to deck out the whole of her glorious estate with as many Christmas related items as she could find.
She would’ve done so already, but somebody wouldn’t let her. That somebody being her husband, Drake Walker.
As a compromise Drake had said they could decorate on December 1st  to which she had agreed. It was only November and so she partly understood his reluctance.
Riley had been sat in her office all morning looking over some notes for an upcoming council meeting, it didn’t help her that the meeting was to discuss the Christmas ball. Every ball, every event was planned meticulously weeks and weeks before the actual date, but talking about Christmas, Riley’s favourite time of year, was doing very little to not get her into the Christmas spirit.
She tapped her pen rhythmically against her desk as she read the same page over again,
She had been letting her mind wander back to all those Christmas’s back in New York as a child, after she let those play over in her mind, like little films she’d be brought back to reality, remembering she had work to do and started reading again. Problem was she didn’t remember where she got to so started again. It had happened so many times that she now knew the first few paragraphs off by heart.
The night prior Maxwell had called. According to Maxwell he had put up the Christmas tree and his brother was not impressed by that, stating it went against tradition and it was far too early. That was just typical Bertrand in her opinion.
If Maxwell, albeit against his brother’s wishes, could put their decorations up why couldn’t Riley?
She had stressed that to Drake, but he was being a right little grinch about it. She tried using the same excuse Maxwell had the night before.
Maxwell had explained  to Bertrand that Bartie had influenced his decision, that Bartie had practically begged him to do it, when the child in question could barely string a sentence together.
Riley had taken a similar approach.
Bertrand and Savannah were due to go to Lythikos for the weekend and Riley and Drake would be looking after Bartie for them. She had used Drake’s love for his nephew against him, saying that it would make the child happier, but her stubborn husband wasn’t budging.
Drake wasn’t in Valtoria, he was at the palace to talk with Liam about something.
She had been in the office since Drake had left that morning and needed a break. She hadn’t been working anyway.
She wandered the halls in search of Gladys. “Gladys?” Riley called, when she saw the woman she was searching for.
“Your grace,” She bowed.
“Have we got any Christmas decorations anywhere?”
“Yes…” Gladys said, glancing down at the floor.
“What is it?”
“His grace made clear that I’m not to let you get your hands on them.”
“Did he now? Where are they? I’ll deal with my husband; he’ll never find out you told me.”
“They’re hidden under the sink in the kitchen, your grace.”
“Thank you, Gladys.”
With that Riley headed off to the kitchen, opened the cupboard in question and pulled out the boxes. She had to make a few trips but finally all the boxes were stacked in the living room.
Riley stood in the doorway, scouring the room for where she should put the tree. Once she had come to the conclusion just by the tv was the best place, she opened the box that contained the artificial tree and got to work putting it up.
Once it was assembled and in place, she picked out the decorations she wanted. They consisted of gold and silver baubles and tinsel.  Riley grinned when she found the star for the top.
Drake had brought it for her the year prior and had their names engraved into it. She placed that on the tree first, then put the other decorations on it.
The sun had gone down by the time she had finished, put the boxes away, hoovered up any bits of tinsel and glitter that had gotten everywhere, that being a main reason Drake was opposed to the idea, lit some candles, and was now sat down on the sofa watching Love actually, one of her all-time favourites.
“What the hell is going on in here?” Drake asked, she turned to see him in the doorway, Bartie in his arms. “You decorated?”
“I thought Bartie would like it. Was I not supposed to?”
“No,” Drake said. Drake sat down, slinging his legs up onto the sofa and passing Bartie over to Riley.
“How was your meeting with Liam?” Riley asked,
“It was fine,” Drake yawned.
“I thought Savannah was bringing Bartie tomorrow.”
“She was, I just wanted to go and see what Maxwell had done. Thought i might as well have picked him up while I was there.”
“Are you really annoyed about this?” Riley asked, gesturing toward the tree as she ran her fingers through Bartie’s hair who was captivated by the glowing silver fairy lights.
“He likes it,” Drake said, nodding to Bartie.
“Admit it, it was a good idea,” Riley said, “I know it’s only November but who doesn’t like Christmas? Expect maybe Olivia, but she lives in winter wonderland, I’ll never understand how she doesn’t like this time of year.”
The couple were startled when they heard a loud crash. They turned mouths agape at the sight of the tree laying on its side with the tv under it. The loud noise had scared Bartie who was now crying, Riley bouncing him up and down on her knee in the attempt to calm him.
“I don’t think I tightened the screws on the base enough,” Riley mumbled.
“You think?” Drake asked, she could see his jaw start clenching.
“Sorry,” she muttered, “it’s never too early for Christmas though, right?”

Thunder and lightning clapped outside of the palace as rain battered against the window of Leo’s bedroom. He was slowly roused from his slumber, he pulled his pillow over his head, but opened one eye when another sound rang out throughout the palace.
Leo sat up straining his ears, soon realizing what the sound was and that it wasn’t coming from the chaos outside.
He climbed out of bed and left his bedroom, being quiet to not wake his brother that had wandered into his room earlier that night after getting scared of the thunder.
He followed the direction of where the sound was coming from, stopping outside his sisters bedroom, now being able to hear her whimpers more clearly. Leo pushed the door open, seeing Lily sat on her bed crying her eyes out and holding her stuffed bear in her arms tightly.
“Lil,” Leo said, calmly, trying not to startle her as she snapped her head over to him.  Leo perched on the end of her bed, pulling her little frame to sit in his lap.
“Lily, what’s wrong?” Leo asked, after her cries had silenced a bit. Lily sniffled, looking up at her big brother, her blue eyes dancing with more unshed tears.
“I-I had a nightmare,” seven-year-old lily explained to her brother. “I went to daddy, but he told me to grow up and stop being a baby.”
Leo felt the anger building inside him. He just couldn’t understand why their father was so cruel. Lily was a child and she was scared, whatever she had dreamt about had obviously frightened her, instead of comforting her  like a normal father would, he’d sent her back to her room as some sort of punishment.
“Okay,” Leo sighed, wrapping his arms tighter around his sister. “Do you want to tell me what the nightmare was about?”
“Mommy,” she said, leaning her head against his chest. “I tried to tell daddy, but he told me I couldn’t talk about her. I dreamt mommy died and then daddy and you and Liam.”
“Lily, that’s not going to happen sweetheart. I promise and you’re not being a baby. You’re allowed to be afraid.”
“Do you get scared?” she asked.
“Yeah,” Leo nodded, “I get scared, Liam gets scared, even dad does. We’re all scared of something Lil and that doesn’t mean we’re being babies. Dad is just upset about Eleanor, okay? That’s all it is,” Leo explained. “Do you want to come and stay in my room?”
“Yes,” she nodded,
“Okay,” Leo said, standing up with her in his arms. “Liam is in my room too,” he said, walking out of his room and toward his.
“He is?” Lily asked quietly.
“He was scared too.” Leo put her down gently beside Liam then climbed back into bed himself. Lily cuddled up closer to her brother, Leo leaned down and placed a kiss on her forehead.
“Are you still scared, Lil?”
“Scared? me? Never. Not if I have my big brother,” she mumbled, struggling to keep her eyes open as sleep was calling her. Eventually she gave in, letting it take her while knowing she’d always be safe because her big brother was going to protect her.

Wacky drabble #6: Regina's secret
Part one
This is my contribution to @emceesynonymroll Wacky Drabble Challenge. The prompt is: You make no sense sometimes The prompt will appear in bold.
Word count: 885

“I’m telling you, Leo, there is something going on with her”
“What I want to know is why you’re spying on our stepmother?” Leo asked, as the siblings made their way through the palace hallways toward their brother’s room.
Lily pushed the door open, not bothering to knock, Liam grumbled something from his bed, pulling the duvet over his head as Leo and Lily pulled the curtains open, drenching the room  with the harsh white sunlight.
“Wakey, wakey little brother,” Leo said in a singsong voice.
Lily jumped onto the bed beside her brother.. “Come on, Liam,” she said, trying to wrench the blanket from  over his head.
“What do you want?” Liam mumbled, managing to hold the duvet in place despite his sisters efforts.
“Well-” Leo started but Lily cut him off.
“There’s something going on with Regina,” she insisted.
“Yeah, lily here, has been spying on our stepmother.”
“It’s not spying, Leo, it’s just observing from afar without her knowing.”
“Yeah that’s the definition of spying, Lil.”
Liam sat up in bed, looking at his siblings as his eyes adjusted to the harsh light and the headache hit him.
“How much did you drink last night?” Lily questioned, knowing Liam had gone out with Drake and that Leo had tagged along, which she only knew because her and Drake had been texting all night, she still wasn’t sure on why she hadn’t gotten an invite, seeming as everyone else did.
“Too much,” Liam grumbled, sitting up in bed, looking at his siblings. “How are you not hungover?” Liam asked his brother.
“That’s for me to know and for you to wonder,” Leo smirked.
“Am I the only responsible one here?” Lily asked, glaring up at Leo.
“What have I done?”
“You’re turning him into you,” Lily said, nodding to Liam then to Leo.
“Is that such a bad thing? Leo asked, “I’m wonderful.” Lily couldn’t hold in her laughter. “Oi!” Leo laughed, pushing her playfully.
“Wonderful is not a word I’d use to describe you, big brother,” Lily teased.
“Whatever.”
Liam rubbed at his temples, glancing down at the alarm clock on his bedside table, the time had just gone 9:21 am, luckily it was a Saturday meaning all the royal siblings could relax. Leo took a seat on the end of Liam’s bed.
“What is going on?” Liam asked, a little bit more awake than he was a short while ago.
“I think Regina is hiding something,” Lily explained. “Think about it, we barely know anything about her, we know nothing about her family other than Adelaide is her cousin, although I still think Madeline must be her child, there is no way bubbly, fun, Adelaide Is the demons mother, but that’s a conspiracy for another time. I have been on the internet and-”
“Well done,” Leo cheekily chimed in.
“Be quiet. Did you know there’s a load of conspiracy theories about us? Honestly, one thinks we’ve got mum frozen somewhere like Walt Disney supposedly is. It gets more insane and frankly quite ludicrous, but there is one where Regina has a daughter.”
“You make no sense sometimes,” Leo quipped.
“I actually believe it,” she told them. “I was reading into this thinking it can’t be true but it makes sense.”
“No, it doesn’t.”
“Leo, you should learn to be a little bit more open-minded. It all makes sense now, the photo of that girl in her locket-”
“Which by the way, I’m pretty sure that’s her mother when she was young,” Leo said, cutting her off.
“Shh. How dad and her go quiet when we walk into a room, anytime Christmas and family gets brought up it all gets really awkward, like they’re hiding something, Regina’s weird trips, that no one except dad seems to know anything about.”
“That doesn’t mean she has a secret child,” Leo explained.
“Liam, what do you think? It’s possible isn’t it?” she asked.
“I don’t think so,” Liam replied, “I agree she’s very private but that doesn’t suggest she’s hiding anything, it simply means she’d rather not drag her family into it. From what I understand her mother and father have both passed away and she doesn’t have any siblings, there’s no one to really talk about. There’s no rule that states she must discuss her family anyway. I assume before father married her they’re would’ve been a full background check, meaning if she was keeping anything untoward it would’ve been found. I refuse to think she’s keeping a child a secret and i’m sure if this daughter did exist father or Regina herself would’ve told us about her, don’t you?”
“Thank you!” Leo exclaimed, “See? Even Liam thinks you’re nuts.”
“I didn’t say that.”
“Shut up, Leo,” Lily snapped.
“Just admit, you’ve got a little carried away,” Leo encouraged.
“I don’t think I have,” she insisted.
“You would say that, wouldn’t you?”
“Shouldn’t you be packing for your next adventure or something? Or better still trying to find a way out of marrying the demon?”
“That’s a work in progress,” he explained, “Anyway, this isn’t about me. Are you gonna drop this?”
“No. I still think she is hiding something. If it’s not a daughter, fine, but she is keeping something and rest assured I am going to find out what it is.”

Lily was roused by her slumber by that god awful, high pitched, screeching alarm blaring from her phone. She felt Drake also stir next to her, she grumbled some profanities under her breath and rolled out of Drake’s embrace to pick up her phone off the bedside table.
She quickly pressed the button to turn the horrible thing off then went into the alarm app to disable the alarm altogether- there were much better ways to wake up.
She yanked and turned back on to get side to look at her fiance. “Can you believe we’re getting married in two days?” she asked, with the biggest grin on her face she had ever had.
“What between the interviews and preparations? Yeah, I can.”
“Bit early for sarcasm,” she teased.
“It’s never too early. I can’t wait to marry you either, soon to be Mrs. Walker.”
“Lily Walker,” she said, “I like it.”

Turning Tables: Where Does the Good Go
This will be the last installment of “Turning Tables”. This chapter will be L-O-N-G. This chapter will also be the darkest and yet happiest.
Song inspiration: Where Does the Good Go by Tegan and Sara
Word count: 3800 ish
TW: Miscarriage, Pregnancy loss, hospitalization, therapy, violence, pregnancy, sex.
This is your final warning.
Riley spoke between kisses. “I need to be with you. Right now.”
That was all he needed. He pushed her on the bed and began lavishing her with kisses.
He began kissing her on the lips. She kissed him back fervently; desperate to him just how much she missed this.
Riley tangled her hands in his hair and pulled him closer. She rolled her hips into his, grinding their pelvises together. She was rewarded with a groan that escaped Liam. She smiled triumphantly and removed her hands from his hair and put them up his shirt on his back. She dug her nails into his shoulders, making him shudder and moan into her chest. She knew it drove him wild.
Riley was rewarded when Liam sat up and took off his shirt, exposing his god-like physique. Riley put her hands on his biceps and lazily traced her finger to his pec, smiling at the reaction she got from him.
Liam picked up Riley’s hand and turned it over. He began kissing down her arm, to her collar bone. He kissed down her collarbone and pulled her shirt back, leaving wet kisses on her skin.
“This has to go,” he muttered as he yanked off her shirt. “This, too,” he hungrily whispered as he took off her bra.
Riley smiled at the sight of her husband impatiently stripping her. He loved her body and he was not shy about letting her know.
Riley put her hands around Liam’s neck and pulled him down. “Sex now, admire me later.”
“Of course, my Queen.”
Liam’s lips resumed their place under Riley’s collarbone and continued their way down. Riley gasped at the feeling of Liam’s lips on her skin. He grabbed one breast and began playing with the nipple as he licked and sucked on the other.
The feeling of Liam’s mouth on Riley sent shockwaves of pleasure straight to Riley’s center. Liam could, and had, made Riley orgasm just from nipple stimulation. Thankfully, Liam had more in mind.
Riley writhed under Liam. “Tease.”
Liam laughed. “Oh, and how exactly am I teasing?”
Riley pouted. “You know what I want.”
“I know exactly what you want,” Liam growled as he kissed down Riley’s stomach and to her waistband. He hooked one finger into the band and teasingly pulled her pants down just far enough to kiss her hipbones. He kissed and nipped each one gently.
Liam slowly peeled off Riley’s pants and panties and began kissing Riley’s ankles and up to the apex of her thighs. He very slowly pulled Riley’s legs apart and kissed just to the side of Riley’s center.
She whimpered impatiently, lifting her sex closer to Liam’s face.
Liam couldn’t stand it anymore. He greedily shoved his face in between her thighs and began licking Riley’s clit. His movements were fast and sure. Riley moaned at the sensation. Liam grinned to himself and licked from her clit to her entrance, tracing words with the tip of his tongue. Riley’s hands found Liam’s hair and began tugging his head where she wanted his tongue. He happily obliged, sucking on her clit once again.
He put two fingers in her, making the come here motion against her g-spot. It was too much stimulation for Riley after not having sex for that long— her walls began tightening immediately, her orgasm beginning to coil in her belly.
“That’s it,” Liam murmured huskily. “Be a good girl and come for your King.”
Riley whimpered as she let go. She came with a scream, exploding everywhere. Liam loved the evidence they left in their wake. The bed was always soaked when they were done.
Liam set back on his heels and watched Riley come down from her high. Her hands were gripped in the sheet, locked from her orgasm.
Her eyes came into focus and she grinned mischievously. “Are you done with me?”
Liam shook his head. “Not even close.”
“What are you waiting for?” Riley challenged
He lunged forward and scooped his arms behind Riley, pulling her to him, kissing her urgently. Her hands fell to his back and began clawing at him. She moaned into his mouth when she tasted herself on his lips.
Liam chuckled and pulled back. Riley mewed in protest, but before she could speak, Liam had flipped her over on her hands and knees.
Riley giggled. She loved this side of Liam. He leaned over and kissed Riley’s neck tantalizingly. Then down her back, leaving searing kisses all over her body. He nipped with his teeth gently, too, causing Riley to moan lightly.
His hands traveled down her body, too. He gently caressed all of her curves, making sure to worship every inch of her body.
Riley shook her ass impatiently.
“I know, love,” Liam said as he took her hair in his hands. “I just love this sight of you.” He leaned over and kissed her shoulder blade once more before lining himself up and thrusting himself into her.
Riley groaned loudly and sunk her face into the pillows.
Liam kept one hand on the base of Riley’s neck but used the other to steady himself on her waist.
Riley was already beginning to tighten again. Liam knew that he wouldn’t last much longer, either.
“Riley,” he hissed. “I can’t—”
“Liam,” Riley moaned.
Liam surrendered himself to his urges and began fucking her quick and hard.
“Ah!”
Riley began trembling, another orgasm quickly building. She groaned incoherently into the pillow.
Liam pulled her head up. “I’m going to come, love,” he growled. “Come for me.”
The urgency in his voice made Riley quiver. Her knees began shaking and she snapped once again, orgasm ripping through her body. Her walls tightened around Liam and he spilled himself in Riley.
She collapsed and Liam laid down next to her, pulling the sheets over them. Liam waited until Riley came down from her post-orgasm high before kissing her.
Riley kissed back drowsily.
“Feel better?” Liam asked softly.
Riley nodded her head before drifting to sleep.
Liam drifted off, too, and slept peacefully with his arms protectively around Riley.
A few hours later, Riley awoke with a blood curdling scream. She shot straight up, clutching her stomach, screaming hysterically.
Liam’s stomach dropped at the sound. He sat up, sure that someone was attacking them. There was nobody else in the room. He reached over to Riley and yanked her onto his lap. This motion stopped the screaming, but it was quickly replaced with whimpering sobs.
“Riley!”
She looked at him but her eyes were empty. Liam’s blood turned cold. This was the same look that Riley had when Liam had chosen to go back to the castle when she was in the hospital.
“Riley, talk to me. Please,” Liam urged.
Riley looked up at him, unblinking for a moment before she began wailing uncontrollably.
Liam tightened his arms around her, unsure of what else to do. He rocked her back and forth until the sobs subsided.
“Riley...” he paused, not wanting to start another fit. His heart ached for his wife.
She looked up at him like a deer in the headlights. The life was still gone.
Liam’s lower lip quivered. “Don’t leave me,” he began. “Don’t leave me again, Riley! I just got you back!” He squeezed Riley even tighter.
She just whimpered in response.
Liam didn’t know what to do, so they just sat there, Liam holding Riley and Riley crying inconsolably. Eventually, Riley fell into a restless sleep.
When Riley woke, her thoughts were fuzzy. She reached out to find Liam, but only found cold sheets. She sat up, looking for any sign of her husband. Riley could hear Liam’s muffled voice in the next room.
She stood, donned a robe, and went to him. She stopped at the door when his conversation became more clear.
“I don’t know,” Liam groaned into his phone as he ran a hand over his face. He had a five-o-clock shadow and worry was etched into his features.
Riley stopped where she was, watching her husband. The house was dark. Liam only had one light on in the living area; Riley was covered by the darkness and Liam hadn’t sensed her precense.
Liam nodded. “It was like last year at the hospital again, Drake.” Liam paused as emotion filled voice. “I can’t do it again. I can’t lose her again.”
Liam turned toward Riley and his eyes widened when he noticed her. She gave a small finger wave.
He tilted his head and held up one finger before turning around.
“Yeah,” Liam said. “Listen, she’s awake. I’ll call you tomorrow. Okay. Bye.”
Liam hung up and turned to Riley. She could see the fear written across his normally stoic face. Guilt tore through Riley and she rushed to Liam.
Liam swept Riley into a hug, picking her up off the floor.
They stood like that for a moment before Liam drew in a big breath and set her down. Riley looked up at Liam with tears in her eyes.
“I’m sorry,” she began, voice thick. “I don’t understand.”
Liam looked at Riley quizzically. “What’s the last thing you remember?” He asked softly as he took Riley’s hand.
“Falling asleep after we finished,” Riley whispered as Liam guided them to the couch.
Liam smiled sadly at Riley as they sat. “You woke up screaming, love.”
Another wave of guilt washed over Riley. She wiped away a tear. “I’m sorry.”
Liam placed his hand over hers. “Don’t be. I called Doctor January and she thinks you had another fit of reactive psychosis.”
“Oh,” was all Riley could manage.
Liam took Riley’s hand and kissed the back of it. “I set up an emergency session for tomorrow so we can try to figure out the trigger.”
Riley just nodded.
Liam took Riley’s chin and made her look at him. “Don’t think for one second that I am upset with you. Don’t think that I am mad.” He kissed Riley’s forehead. “Your brain is healing.” He kissed her nose. “We’ll go back to the mainland tomorrow at six. Doctor January will meet us at nine.” He kissed her chastely on the lips.
Riley nodded and leaned into Liam. He wrapped his arms around her and they both leaned back into the couch.
Weeks passed after the night that Liam and Riley had sex. Liam held Riley every night but he didn’t do more than kiss her. He had a theory as to why Riley had the nightmare. They had sex twice more, and both times, the same thing happened. It hurt Liam more than anything to know he was the cause of Riley’s pain.
He had discussed it with Doctor January.
“I think having relations was a trigger,” Liam admitted in his individual therapy session.
He was slouched over, his usual disposition shattered. He pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed. “I just want to help her.”
Doctor January waited until Liam looked up at her. She pressed her lips into a thin line. “Until Riley realizes that your marital relations were the trigger of her psychosis, there’s nothing I can do.”
Liam sighed and leaned back into the couch, feeling defeated.
Just the next day, Riley and Hana were talking. Riley refused to see January anymore, but promised to confide in a friend.
She sat, legs tucked under her. Her posture indicated she was calm, but she had taken lessons from Liam and Regina; nobody but Liam could really read her.
Hana didn’t speak. She knew Riley was close to a breakthrough and didn't want to lead Riley anywhere.
Riley was quiet for almost ten minutes before she spoke.
“I’m terrified,” Riley said quietly.
Oh? Hana thought. This may be easier than I thought.
“Of?”
“Having another miscarriage. Being a failure as a wife and Queen.” Riley shook her head. “It’s bad enough that I can’t give Liam a child... but to have an entire country waiting for me to produce an heir?” Riley shook her head and began crying.
“Riley, nobody is putting that pressure on you but yourself.”
She untucked her legs and pulled them up to her chest, shutting the world out. Shutting Hana out. She shook her head again.
“You don’t get it!” Riley screamed at Hana. “You don’t have an entire kingdom waiting on you! Depending on you!” Sobs wracked her body.
Hana pulled out her phone and texted Liam: you need to come here.
Riley didn’t notice Hana pull out her phone or hear Liam entering, but she felt Liam’s presence and her head snapped up.
Liam saw the tears on her face and swooped to Riley and wrapped her in a hug. Riley began sobbing harder.
“I’m so sorry,” she whispered. “I’m such a failure. I’m such a failure.”
Liam’s heart broke and he began to cry as well. “Love, you aren’t a failure. Nobody thinks that.”
Riley laid her head on his chest. “Everyone is waiting, Liam. They want me to produce an heir and I can’t,” she wailed.
Hana’s heart broke for her best friend. She made eye contact with Liam and he nodded before returning his attention to Riley.
Liam pulled her back and looked her in the eye. “No, Riley. You’re wrong.”
“What?”
Liam took a steadying breath, trying to control his emotions. He pulled Riley tightly against him again and began stroking her hair. “Riley, the only one who expects anything from you is, well, you.”
Riley slumped against him.
Hana took her leave, locking the door to Liam’s quarters behind her.
“Love, the entire country knows that a part of you died when you lost our baby.” Liam paused. “Well, besides me, I guess,” he admitted with a sad laugh. “But that was because I had lost my wife, too.”
When Riley didn’t answer, he sighed impatiently. She pulled away from Liam and looked up at him like a petulant child, lower lip protruding and all.
Liam let out a short laugh.
“I’m sorry,” Riley said as she wiped away her tears. “I forget how much you hurt, too.” She looked up at the ceiling, willing the tears to stop for just a second. She cleared her throat and looked at her husband. “I forget that you lost me, too. I was so worried about me... that I forgot about you.” The last words were just a whisper. Riley looked down at her feet. “I want to have a baby. But you know how I feel.”
Liam reached out and cupped Riley’s cheek. She was physically standing before him, but mentally, she was slipping out of his hands.
“Riley, we can adopt. Or appoint an heir outside of the bloodline.”
Riley’s eyes were vacant when she looked up at him.
Something snapped inside of Liam. “God damnit, Riley! Not again. Not again!” He took Riley in his arms and smashed his lips against hers. He was desperate. He couldn’t lose Riley again. He wouldn’t survive without her.
At first, Riley didn’t respond: she was limp in his arms for a moment. Then she responded to him. She kissed him back fervently.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered softly. “I’m not leaving, I promise.”
Liam picked her up and took her to the bedroom.
Six months later
Liam and Riley sat in the office of their adoption agent, hands intertwined on Riley’s legs. Riley was nervous, but Liam was collected.
“Love, we are a king and queen. We can literally give our children the world. We’ll be approved and then we can adopt the girls.”
Riley’s heart soared. They had been approved for adoption just days after applying. Money was no object, and the royal council had unanimously voted yes to Riley and Liam adopting.
There was a family of girls that Riley had fell in love with by just looking at their picture. Two little redheads and a blonde. Stella, Hazel, and Harper. Their parents had been killed in a car accident and they’d been in the foster system for three years, literally all of little Harper’s life.
Riley and Liam had visited with the girls twice; once via video call and once in the States.
Stella was in awe that the King and Queen of Cordonia were interested in adopting her and her sisters. She was eight and was used to the cruel foster system of America. She had the maturity of a thirty year old and it broke Riley’s heart.
The door opened and the agent stepped in, a smile on her face. “Let’s begin.”
The rest of the adoption process was painless. Riley and Liam had no issues with their home study. The girls were scheduled to move to Cordonia in June, so they would have time to settle before schooling began in July.
It took them almost a month to get used to the castle and the schedule of being princesses.
The girls referred to Riley and Liam as Her and His majesty when they first arrived. Liam and Riley had knelt to their level. “We are not just a king and queen, Stella. You can call us by Riley and Liam or momma and daddy.”
Stella was cautiously happy. Hazel adapted to being a princess quickly. Harper clung to Stella at all times at first, but she took to Drake quickly.
Stella very quickly became a daddy’s girl. She never left Liam’s side often.
It almost offended Riley that Stella took to Liam first, but then one day, Hazel began clinging to Riley’s skirts.
Riley and Liam made sure that their girls were officially, and legally, named heirs to the throne.
Stella quickly adapted to being the Crown Princess. At just nine, she was just as serious as Bertrand when it came to her duties, but she could be just as silly as Maxwell. Stella had the patience of Bertrand, too. She sat on Liam’s lap during council meetings, dutifully paying attention.
There was one day, Drake was making silly faces at Stella, and she scolded him. “Uncle Drake, we are at a meeting! Behave or I'll make you leave.”
Drake snorted but the rest of the council laughed, even Madeleine.
Hazel was a drama queen, always demanding people watch her performances.
Harper was Drake’s shadow and had his snark and love for fishing.
After a year of living in the castle, all three of the girls called Liam daddy, but only Hazel and Harper called Riley momma.
One day, as Riley and Liam were putting the girls to bed, Stella spoke.
“Riley?”
“Yes, baby?” Riley asked as she tucked Stella in.
“I don’t want to call you Riley anymore.”
“Okay, what do you want to call me?”
“I’m going to call you momma,” Stella said as Riley leaned down to kiss her on the forehead.
“Okay,” Riley whispered. “It’s time to close your eyes.”
“Goodnight, momma.”
“Goodnight, Stell.”
Tears of joy fell down Riley’s cheek as she closed the door to the girl’s room.
She sat on Liam’s lap as they enjoyed a nightcap.
Riley looked at Liam lovingly. “Thank you.”
Liam raised an eyebrow. “For?”
Riley squeezed Liam. “Not giving up on me.”
Liam kissed his wife. “I’d never dream of it.”
Two years after the girls had been adopted, Riley was feeling unwell one morning. She didn’t think anything of it until three days later when she was still feeling unwell.
Riley made an appointment with Doctor Rameriz, thinking it was just the stomach flu.
“Your Majesty, you’re with child.”
Riley stared blankly at her Doctor.
Doctor Rameriz asked if she needed to call Liam and Riley shook her head.
They scheduled an ultrasound immediately. Riley was still in shock as the image of her baby popped up on the screen. She heard the thump of her baby’s heart.
The tech pointed at a blob on the screen. “There’s your baby, Your Majesty. Looks like you’re about six weeks along.”
Riley’s heart pounded. She was eight weeks at her miscarriage.
The tech printed off a picture for Riley. She saw the worry etched on her Queen’s face, and before she could stop herself, reached out and took Riley’s hand. “You’ll be okay.”
Riley was still in shock as Mara drove her home. She clutched to the ultrasound picture while she called Hana. “It’s urgent. Please come over.”
Liam had meetings all day and wouldn’t be back until after dinner.
Hana was at the castle within an hour and squealed with delight when she saw the ultrasound. “You have to get a t-shirt for Harper! One that says Big Sister. Oh! And Stella’s and Hazel’s can say Big Sister, again!” Hana’s enthusiasm was infectious.
“Okay, Hana,” Riley giggled as she hugged her best friend. “But you have to order them. I don’t want the press getting wind of this.”
Two days later, Riley had the girls dressed in their shirts. Liam would be home any minute. She was nervous and the girls were ecstatic to have a baby sister.
Liam entered and Riley kissed him enthusiastically.
He chuckled. “Miss me?”
Riley nodded before kissing him again. “Yes. But the girls have something important to tell you.”
Liam cocked his head to the side, but let Riley drag him to the living area.
“Harper, come to momma,” Riley called.
Harper came bounding to Riley. She smiled widely as Liam picked her up.
Liam’s eyes swept over her shirt. “Big... sister?”
He looked at Riley and she nodded. Liam pulled Riley to him and kissed her as hard as he could. He pulled back and swung Harper around. She squealed with laughter.
Stella and Hazel came charging in. “Momma has a baby in her tummy!”
Liam laughed as he set Harper down and hugged his children. “Yes, she does! How long have you known?”
Stella looked proudly at her father. “Two days! Momma said it was really important to keep this secret.”
Liam took Stella’s hand and looked solemnly at his Crown Princess. “Some secrets are important.” His face broke out into a smile and he stood to sweep Riley into his arms. He picked her up and swung her in a circle.
Riley squealed with laughter.
Eight and a half months later, they welcomed a beautiful baby boy. They named him Constantine Lawrence, after both of their parents. They nicknamed him Connie.
Harper took the duty of big sister very seriously.
Connie was a momma’s boy, through and through.
Riley and Liam welcomed two more little boys. They were over the moon with every birth and their kingdom celebrated every birthday with them.
Riley and Liam still attended therapy until their last baby was born. The nightmares faded and Riley learned how to handle her fears instead of letting them control her.
They were very, very happy with their life, six years after their turning tables.

Turning Tables: Hallelujah Part Two
⚠️⚠️This story and its contents contain material not suited for sensitive viewers. This story is not meant for anyone under the age of 18. If you are reading this, you are agreeing you are over 18. This warning serves as a blanket trigger and content warning.⚠️⚠️
This is part four of my mini series, “Turning Tables”. Find the master link here. This also serves as my entry for this week’s wacky drabble. The prompt is “Please don’t leave” and should be in bold.
Watch THIS to get a better understanding of “reactive psychosis”.
Song inspiration: “Hallelujah” originally by Leonard Cohen, covered by Pentatonix.
Word count: ≠ 1200
Summary: Liam and Riley spend some time alone.
TW: miscarriage, hospitals, pregnancy loss, violence
When Riley had finally calmed down, she stared at her husband. “Please don’t leave me,” she whispered.
“Riley,” Liam said as he placed his hand on her cheek. “I’ll never leave you.”
Riley seemed satisfied with that answer. She laid her head on Liam’s chest and Liam began stroking her hair.
Riley could hear Hallelujah in the back of her mind:
🎶You saw her bathing on the roof
Your faith was strong but you needed proof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you to the kitchen chair
She broke your throne, she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the hallelujah🎶
Somehow, Riley’s chest grew even tighter. She pulled in a breath between her teeth and clenched her jaw shut.
Liam’s arms tightened protectively around her. “Love?”
“I’m so sorry, Liam,” she whimpered. “I’m so sorry...”
Liam kissed the top of her head. “I know. I forgive you.”
They laid like that until Riley’s chest no longer felt tight. Until Liam’s heart didn’t feel like it was going to explode.
The day Liam told Riley that he had to return to the castle, Riley shut down completely. She even refused to sign to anyone.
Her friends watched helplessly as she refused to acknowledge anyone, including Liam.
Drake tried to get her to respond first. “Brooks,” he started.
Riley looked at him.
“You’re scaring us shitless. Please talk to us.”
Riley looked away.
Maxwell tried next. “Little Blossom, please speak with us.” He sat on her bed.
Riley’s head whipped to him and she shoved him off the bed, hard. He fell and hit his head.
Hana and Drake rushed to his side and helped him up.
“I know you’re unwell, Riley, but that is no excuse,” Hana chastised her best friend.
Riley closed her eyes.
She grew more violent, throwing anything she could get her hands on at nurses and doctors. They restrained Riley with Velcro handcuffs. They gave her sedatives so she wouldn’t thrash.
Riley was a broken woman.
It was Olivia who broke through to Riley.
Olivia rushed from Lythikos when she heard Riley was catatonic. She stormed into the hospital, shoving people out of her way.
“I demand to talk to Her Majesty’s head physician. Now,” she barked at a nurse.
“Your Grace,” the nurse said before dashing away.
Doctor Valentine and Liam returned. The three converged to a private location.
“Whatever you say to me, you can say to Duchess Olivia,” Liam said in a tone all too put together.
Valentine nodded. “Of course.” She took a breath. “Her Majesty is fine, physically. There is no need to keep her in the ICU.”
“I sense a ‘but’,” Olivia stated.
Valentine nodded. “I think Riley would benefit from moving to the psych ward— what the hell?”
Olivia stormed through the hospital to Riley’s room. She whipped the door open and glared at the nurse. “You need to leave now,” she snapped.
The nurse tripped over her own feet leaving the room.
Olivia looked at Riley, who looked away.
“Enough of this bullshit, Riley!” Olivia hissed as she pulled the blankets off Riley. She took Riley’s head in her hands and made the Queen face her. “They’re going to put you in a looney bin if you don’t get your shit together.”
Olivia waited for a response but received nothing.
“You’re kidding me!”
Olivia made quick work of the straps that held Riley’s legs down and deftly undid the straps around her wrist. “You don’t understand, Riley.” Her voice was ice cold. Olivia grabbed Riley’s legs and yanked her to her feet. Riley tried to hit Olivia, but Olivia deftly blocked her hand.
“I wouldn’t suggest that, Riley. I’ve been fighting since I was able to walk,” Olivia sneered. “I get that you’re going through trauma, but you are a Queen! Act like it!”
Riley stared blankly at Olivia.
“You need to get your shit together, now, or I am going to prison for treason.”
When Riley still didn’t answer, Olivia cocked her hand back and slapped Riley across the face.
Instantly, Riley’s eyes became more responsive. It seemed like a light in Riley was flipped on.
“Ow! What was that for?” Riley whimpered as she rubbed the spot where Olivia had hit her.
“Ah, so you can talk,” Olivia said triumphantly.
“It’s called reactive psychosis,” Riley said lamely. “I was diagnosed.”
“Well,” Olivia said as she searched for Riley’s clothing, “you have been treated the Nevarkis way.” She smiled at Riley.
“What, pure violence?” Riley asked as she sat down on her bed.
“It worked, didn’t it?”
Riley and Liam spent two days just lying in bed. They had been at the island for five days, and they had made progress in their relationship.
“I don’t think I’ll ever be the same, Liam.”
Liam sighed and ran his hand over Riley’s arm.
They had just finished dinner and now lie side by side, watching TV.
“I know,” Liam said.
“I feel like I’ll never stop hurting.”
“I know.” Liam leaned over and kissed Riley’s cheek.
“Liam...”
“Yes, love?”
“I’m afraid to get pregnant again. If— if I lose another baby— I’ll never be whole again.” Tears rolled down her face. “I never imagined wanting kids. Then you came along and gave me a kingdom. All I wanted was to make you happy, make us happy.” She sat up.
Liam sat up, too. “Riley, you made me the happiest man alive when you agreed to marry me.” He pushed back a piece of hair that had fallen on her face. “Then, again when you did marry me.” He smiled. “Everything else is just an added bonus.”
Riley looked up at him. “I want a baby, Liam. Several. Just— can we wait to try again?”
“Of course we can, love,” Liam said as he leaned in to kiss her forehead.
Riley surprised him by meeting his lips with hers.
Riley had kept Liam at arm’s length for almost a year now. She allowed him to hold his hand, and recently, let him kiss her forehead and cheek. She hadn’t kissed him on the lips or let him touch her below the shoulder in ages.
Riley deepened the kiss, wrapping her arms around his neck. Her tongue swiped his lower lip and he moaned in response. She began kissing him fervently, closing the space between them, pressing herself to him. Her hands tangled in his hair and she pulled gently.
“Riley,” Liam gasped as she kissed down his jawline and to his neck. “I’m not complaining, but what are you doing?”
Riley spoke between kisses. “I need to be with you. Right now.”
That was all he needed. He pushed her on the bed and began lavishing her with kisses.
🎶Well there was a time when you let me know
What's really going on below
But now you never show that to me do ya
But remember when I moved in you
And the holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah🎶

Okay, yet another chapter that got away from me. Thank you to everyone who has reached out. I know this is a dark series, but it is helping me SO MUCH to get this off my chest. You are all amazing. This is a very heavy chapter. You have been warned.
TW: Miscarriage, Pregnancy Loss, Depression, Hospitals, Hospitalization
Tumblr media
Riley was laying on a blanket, hat drawn over her face as she listened to the ocean lapping just a few feet away. The sun was pleasant and the breeze just light enough to keep her cool in her bathing suit. The sand was warm and comfortable, and Riley was at peace for the first time in almost a year.
She and Liam had taken January’s advice and were away at their private island. They had arranged to be away for ten days, just the two of them. No staff, no friends, no phones.
The couple had been on the island for three days, yet they hadn’t talked about anything deeper than their absence in the kingdom. Liam was growing irritated with Riley.
Doctor January had told Liam that it may take months for Riley to actually speak about the miscarriage, but Liam was anxious for his relationship with Riley to be normal again.
Riley sensed Liam before she heard him. “You’re getting sunburnt, love.”
Riley smiled sleepily. “Yes, but my skin will be gorgeous once the pink fades.”
Liam chuckled. “Okay. But I insist you put on more sunscreen.”
Riley playfully whimpered. “But if I open my eyes, I’ll come out of my bubble.”
Liam uncapped the spray bottle of sunscreen. “Bubble?” He asked as he sat next to Riley.
Riley nodded. “I feel at peace, lying here,” she sighed. “Nobody is relying on me. Nobody is asking me about seating charts. The press isn’t up our asses about an—.” Her voice caught on the word hier. She cleared her throat, willing the tears to go away. “I’m allowed to just be here, Liam. It’s nice.”
“Here, sit up,” Liam quietly said.
Riley obeyed, still keeping her eyes closed. Liam chuckled.
“I think the sun is making you more stubborn,” he joked.
“Ha! I was stubborn from the day we met,” Riley giggled.
“True,” Liam said as he sprayed Riley down.
She opened her eyes to watch Liam. He hadn’t shaved in a few days and the look was becoming. He intensely focused on the task at hand. His eyes were narrowed as he carefully made sure every inch of her skin was covered in sunscreen.
“Thank you,” Riley murmured as Liam looked up at her.
“You’re welcome.” His gaze was even now that he knew Riley was watching her.
While they were sleeping in the same bed, Liam still felt miles away from his wife. She wasn’t the same person she had been. Still, he wanted nothing but to prove worthy of her love. He had taken January’s advice to heart, giving her the space she needed, and only coming close to her when she requested.
Riley felt guilty for how she had acted when she had been in the hospital and subsequently released. She had been selfish, and she knew it. She had shut out Liam and had made him act the way he did. She knew that if she had just let Liam in... maybe they wouldn’t be here. She was working on it. Baby steps... like letting him touch her by putting on sunscreen.
She missed the way Liam worshiped her body. She missed their incredible physical connection they had. But the thought of losing another baby? It made her sick.
Liam sat on his heels and panic shot through Riley. She needed to be close to him, even more than she needed to heal. He went to stand and Riley cried out.
“Don’t go!” She turned to face him. “Please?”
Liam’s eyes softened.
“Please lay with me?”
“Okay,” Liam said gently. Progress.
Riley moved over; the towel was big enough for three. She laid back down and closed her eyes again before laying the hat back over her face. She heard the spray of the sunblock and the smell drifted to her. She smiled contentedly and when Liam laid down next to her, she reached her hand out. He took it, and the two fell asleep in the sunlight.
Riley was still in the hospital three days after her miscarriage. She had lost more blood than usual, she had sustained great mental trauma and physical trauma, and she wasn’t progressing as well as the doctors would have liked.
She had several visitors: her friends, a few commoners who wished to pay their respects, and even Regina and Madeleine.
Madeleine had surprised Riley by coming alone. She asked Liam to step out of the room.
“I know I’m not your favorite, Riley,” she started. “But, I want you to know that I’m here for you. Whatever you need.” Madeleine smiled.
Riley smiled back and nodded.
Madeleine reached out and stopped, an inquisitive look on her face. Riley nodded, indicating Madeleine could continue. Madeleine touched Riley’s cheek.
“You aren’t alone, Riley. You have an entire kingdom who just wants to make sure that you’re well. Use your resources,” she encouraged.
Riley nodded and placed her hand over Madeleine’s. Thank you, Riley signed in ASL.
“You’re welcome.”
Madeleine left and Liam entered, a quizzical look upon his face. Riley shrugged. Liam rolled his eyes.
The days progressed, and Riley was getting up by herself, but she was still mute. This concerned Liam and Regina. They discussed it at great lengths outside of Riley’s hearing.
“I know you were mad as hell at your father, Liam,” Regina said. “But this is part of why he did that.”
She held up a hand to stop Liam from speaking. Anger had crossed his face.
“I don’t agree with how he did it or that he did it, but I understand why. Your father and I both knew that you loved Riley the moment you recognized her at the masquerade. Tell me, Liam. If this was Madeliene in the hospital, mute from losing a child, would you be torn apart? Would you be at her side, doting on her?”
Liam scowled. “Of course I would. Just because I didn’t love her doesn’t mean I would be cruel to her.”
“True,” Regina conceded. “But would your heart be in it? Would you be as heartbroken as you are now?”
Liam’s face fell. “No.”
Regina smiled knowingly at her step son. “I love you, Liam, and it hurts me to see you in this much pain. It hurts me to see Riley like this. I know you want to be with her night and day, but you have a country to run. Riley knows this.”
Liam nodded. He felt like he had been caught with his hand in the cookie jar. Regina was right, even if it did make Liam’s heart ache a little.
“I’ll stay, Liam. We can switch off days. You need to get back to the castle.”
When Riley woke, Liam told her the plan. It made Riley tear up.
She felt betrayed. Is Liam giving up on me? She thought. She sat up and pulled her IV out of her arm, making alarms ring.
“Riley? What are you doing?” Liam placed his hands on her shoulders.
She shrugged him off and pushed him away as she got out of the bed and went to the cabinet to find clothes.
Nurses piled in, on high alert due to the alarms.
“What’s going on?” One asked.
Riley whipped around, her clothes in her arms. I’m going with you, she signed to Liam, anger in her eyes.
“No, you aren’t,” he said gently.
I am, too, she signed angrily. She tried to walk to the bathroom, but was stopped by a nurse.
“Your Majesty, you have to stay here,” she said in a pleading tone. “We need to monitor you.”
Riley pulled away from the nurse, but Liam grabbed Riley and forcefully moved her back to the bed.
“Riley, stop acting like a child! I have a country to run and I can’t be here every second of every day!” His voice was boisterous and angry.
Only one nurse stayed. She flitted to Riley’s side, ready to reattach the IV.
“You have to stay here, Riley. You need the antibiotics and IV fluids since you won’t eat or drink!” Liam forced her to lie down. He swung her legs back on the bed and covered her up.
Riley shrank back into the bed. She didn’t like how Liam was acting.
You hate me! She signed.
Liam sighed, pain replacing anger on his face. “I don’t hate you, love. I just want what’s best.” He put his hands over his face and took a deep breath. When he took his hands off his face, he straightened and looked at the nurse. “You’re dismissed,” he said in a voice that could not be challenged.
The nurse nodded.
He looked at Riley, who was still crying. She glared at him, anger radiating from her.
“Regina has agreed to help me. But I must go and set things up. And,” he said as he picked Riley’s clothes off the ground, “I need to contact Mara to get some NDAs in place.” He looked pointedly at Riley.
She looked down at her hands. Her heart still ached. It honestly felt like this was the first step toward a separation... or divorce.
Liam kissed her on the forehead. “I’ll be back first thing tomorrow.”
Riley woke just as the sun was sinking over the horizon. She stretched out and was glad to find that Liam was still asleep next to her.
She sat up and smiled at her husband. She had dreamt about her stay in the hospital and she felt awful about how she had acted. She leaned over and kissed him gently until his eyes fluttered open.
“Hi,” he whispered.
“Hi,” she said before kissing him again. “We seem to have slept all day.”
She set back on her heels, allowing Liam room to sit up.
“That’s okay,” he yawned. “It was well-deserved.”
Riley stood and offered her hand to Liam. “Are you hungry?”
“I could eat.”
They walked back to the house, hand in hand.
“I’ll cook,” Riley offered. “I’ve been craving my chicken and potato bake.”
Liam and Riley sat at the table, eating in silence. They had a radio on in the background, tuned to a station that played American pop music. The first notes of the song came on and it squeezed Riley’s heart.
🎶I heard there was a secret chord
That David played and it pleased the Lord
But you don’t really care for music, do you?
It goes like this: the fourth, the fifth;
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing,
Hallelujah🎶
She swallowed heavily. Liam noticed the change in Riley’s demeanor and leaned toward her.
“Everything okay, love?”
Riley set her fork down, stomach upset from the emotions swirling. “No,” she whimpered as she began crying.
“What’s wrong?” Liam was at her side in an instant, taking her in his arms.
Riley leaned into him. “I’m a selfish bitch!” She cried, sobs wracking her.
Liam pulled her tightly to him. “I don’t follow, love.” He picked her up and took her to the couch and set her on his lap.
“I’m cruel!” She was sobbing so hard that she began hyperventilating.
“Riley! Riley, calm down,” he urged. He rubbed her back and made her take deep breaths. He pulled her face up and made her look at him. “What’s going on? I don’t understand.” His eyes were wet with tears. His heart was breaking as he watched Riley come apart.
She looked up at him, still hysterical. She spoke between sobs. “I thought you were going to leave me! I thought— I thought you were going to leave me. That day at the hospital when you said you needed to take care of business.”
Liam stroked Riley’s hair, tears falling freely now. “I would never leave you.”
“I know that now. But, Liam—” She pulled him to her and wrapped her arms around his neck. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.”
“You left me,” Liam whispered.
Riley pulled back. “What?”
Liam looked at his wife. “When we got back from the hospital... you left me. Mentally, at first. Then actually. You actually left me and slept on the other end of the castle.” Liam wiped away tears.
Riley pulled herself off Liam and began pacing. Liam stood and grabbed her arm, turning her toward him.
“I went to my quarters because I didn’t recognize you!” She hissed.
“You. Left. Me.” Liam accused angrily. “My wife stopped being my wife, and—”
“I died, Liam!” Riley was hysterical again. She bent in two, pain ripping her soul in half.
Liam was no longer angry. He watched Riley, unsure of what to do. “What?” He finally asked.
Riley stood and looked at him, tears still streaming down her face. “I died, Liam. Our baby died... and I died.”
Liam wrapped Riley in a hug. “Riley, I didn’t—.”
“I know,” Riley cried. “I know. I shut you out and I’m sorry.”
She jumped on him and wrapped her legs around him, burying her face in his neck.
“I’m so sorry,” she whimpered. “I just want you back. I want us back.”
“I never left,” Liam whispered as his voice cracked.
Liam took them to the bedroom this time. He laid Riley down, then climbed in next to her. She clung to him, sobs still shaking her body.
🎶Maybe there's a God above
But all I've ever learned from love
Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew ya
And it's not a cry that you hear at night
It's not somebody who's seen the light
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah🎶

This is another sad chapter.
Song inspiration: “Rainy Season” by Hunter Hayes
Summary: Liam and Riley go to therapy. This is a sequel to “Turning Tables”. Find the master list here.
Word count: 1390
TW for this chapter: Miscarriage, blood, hospital, therapy
Tumblr media
Riley sat on the couch, knees carefully tucked to her chest, arms gently wrapped around her legs, cheek lying on her arms. Her face was streaked with tear stains, eyes red, and voice thick with grief.
Liam sat on the other end of the couch, hands folded carefully on his lap. All his years of training could help him stay put together, unlike Riley.
In front of them, a therapist. Her posture suggested she was at ease, but Liam could see right through that.
“Let’s start from the beginning,” Doctor January said.
Riley woke because of cramping. “Liam,” she said as she shook her husband. He groaned. “Liam!” Her voice was urgent.
He sat up, startled. His eyes searched the room, looking for signs of a threat. When his eyes met Riley’s, they darkened with fear.
Riley sat beside him in the bed, her hands gripping her belly.
“I’m cramping really badly,” she cried hysterically. “This isn’t normal!”
Liam bolted out of the bed, charging through their quarters, calling for Bastien and Mara.
“Get an SUV at once!” He barked. “And call Doctor Rameriz.”
Riley heard hushed voices and people running around. The air around her changed— it felt electric, but in a dangerous way. She sobbed as the hairs on her arm stood up. She felt warmth under her and her stomach sunk further. She made herself stand and screamed when she saw the blood on the bed.
Liam came dashing in, somehow already dressed. He had Riley in his arms instantly.
Riley sobbed hysterically.
“Love, I know you’re scared but you must calm down. Please,” Liam whispered. His tone was that of one speaking to a child.
Riley stared at him, thinking he was crazy. She went to talk, but no sounds but whimpers came out.
“I know, Riley,” Liam said as he picked her up.
Someone cleared their throat.
“Your Majesty,” Bastien said. “The SUV is in the back.”
Riley lost consciousness.
When she woke, the bright lights of the room made her head hurt. Her vision was fuzzy and her hearing was muffled. An unfamiliar face appeared in front of her.
“Your Majesty,” the person said. “Can you hear me?”
Riley felt like she was under water. She blinked in response.
“Can you understand me? Blink once if you do.”
Riley blinked once.
“Okay, you can hear me. That’s a start. Can you talk? Blink once for yes and twice for no.”
Riley opened her mouth, but no sound came out. She blinked twice.
“Okay, that’s okay,” the doctor murmured gently. “My name is Doctor Valentine. Do you know where you are?”
Riley examined the room. There were lots of machines hooked up to her. An IV, a heart monitor, and something on her finger. She blinked once.
“Good,” Doctor Valentine murmured. “Do you know what happened?”
Riley’s mind flooded with images. The blood in the bed. How her stomach had cramped. Her hands flew to her stomach instinctually. Tears fell instantly. She looked up at her doctor, blinking twice, even though she did know.
Doctor Valentine sat on Riley’s bed and placed a hand on Riley’s shoulder.
“Your Majesty,” she began.
Her tone was gentle. Too gentle. Riley began sobbing and tried to pull away from her doctor.
“I’m afraid you lost the baby,” Doctor Valentine continued, her own eyes growing heavy with tears.
Riley put her head in her hands and sobbed.
“You lost too much blood too quickly. That, and with the shock, you lost consciousness,” the doctor said, emotions in check now. “Your body is doing fine, but I’d like to keep you for observation. Do you understand?”
Riley’s head snapped up, anger temporarily replacing heartache. She took the pillow and threw it at the doctor. She quickly searched her room for more arsenal.
Doctor Valentine shot up, pressing a button on Riley’s IV— a sedative. This was not the first time Riley had been violent. She had bitten the paramedic and had lashed out at another doctor in her state. The trauma had made her go into fight-or-flight mode, and Riley perceived everyone as a threat, even Liam.
She spotted a cup on her bedside table and picked it up. Just as she cocked her hand back, another, stronger hand gently took the cup. She looked up, ready to kill the person taking away her weapon. It was Liam. Relief flooded her and she began sobbing again.
Liam climbed in the bed next to her, careful to not touch the wires and tubes attached to his wife. She lay in his arms, crying herself to sleep, the sedative taking Riley captive.
“It sounds like it was deeply traumatic, Riley,” Doctor January said.
“It was,” Riley agreed quietly.
The room was cold, making Riley shiver.
Liam noticed and shrugged off his jacket. He tentatively handed it to her.
Riley took it gingerly and put it on before resuming her position.
Doctor January watched this interaction carefully. Liam and Riley had come leaps and bounds since their first session three months ago. They were sleeping in the same bed now, and not on separate ends of the castle. They talked, and not just about the weather or running the kingdom.
The first three sessions, Riley hadn’t said anything. She just let Liam and Doctor Valentine do all the talking. Doctor Valentine had felt frustrated when it appeared Riley didn’t want to participate.
Doctor January had called Riley out just two weeks ago and had told her that if she wasn’t serious about saving her marriage, she could leave and never return. Today, Riley was trying to participate.
“Liam,” Doctor Valentine said, “how do you feel about the loss of your child?”
Liam blinked back tears and cleared his throat. He had been coming to sessions for almost nine months now. He trusted Doctor January. “It was hard,” he admitted. He looked at Riley. “Not as hard as losing myself, though.”
Riley looked at him.
“Not as hard as losing you.” Liam’s voice cracked.
Tears pricked at Riley’s eyes.
“Riley, how do you feel about what Liam just said?”
Riley cleared her throat. “It hurts.”
“Good,” the doctor prompted. “Hurt is better than nothing.”
Riley felt fuzzy. Her head, her body, her thoughts, all fuzzy. She blinked and was met by garish lights, once again.
She could hear Liam talking; her eyes searched for him. He was just outside the room, talking with a doctor she didn’t recognize.
She couldn’t hear everything. Just words like, “trauma”, “she may never talk again,” and “we’re monitoring her progress”.
Riley turned her head and looked at the ceiling. How long have I been asleep? She thought to herself.
Liam came back into the room and smiled warmly when he saw Riley was awake. “My Queen,” he cooed as he approached her.
Riley opened her mouth, but still no sound. Her face fell.
“It’s okay, love,” Liam said as he sat on a chair next to her bed. “The doctors say it could be days or weeks before you speak. The important thing is that you’re healthy.”
What about my baby? Riley thought. But Riley nodded.
Liam smiled, but it didn’t quite reach his eyes.
Riley reached out her hand and Liam leaned into it. She stroked his face with her thumb and he hummed contentedly.
A phone rang outside Doctor January’s office, pulling Riley out of her thoughts.
“Do you think it will stop hurting?” Riley asked, staring down her therapist. It was a cold, calculating stare that made Doctor January shiver.
“No,” she answered honestly.
Riley glared.
“But,” the doctor said as she cleared her throat, “it will hurt less. Eventually.”
Riley pursed her lips. “Okay.”
“I have homework for you,” the doctor stated dryly.”
Liam laughed quietly.
“I haven’t had homework since i was sixteen,” he said amusedly. He stopped smiling when he saw the glower on January’s face.
He coughed and straightened his features.
“What’s our assignment?”
January looked pointedly at the couple before her.
“You have both suffered a great loss, and without the privacy allowed for normal couples. You two need to reestablish who you are as a couple, and find yourselves again. We won’t meet for three weeks and I suggest you leave the palace for at least a week. No press, no duties, and nobody else.”
