but it’s not her fault; alexei and henri keep pushing cocktails into her hands, and there’s shots with tatum and champagne with dionne and before she even realizes it, the room is spinning around her.
a warm hand clasps her bare shoulder, steadying her where she’s swaying out-of-time with the music. kennedy turns her head and sees blaine, standing comfortingly close. her face splits into an easy smile as she realizes she’s relieved to see him. slowly, he smiles back.
his fingers slip beneath the threadbare strap of her dress and rub soothingly at her skin. “hey. let’s get you some air, yeah?”

Note: now let me tell you…this has taken me nearly a year to write. Is it good? No. Will it flop? Probably.
But this was so much fun to write, especially the ending. this idea partially grew out of that Pictagram/thirst trapping fic I wrote, where I realised I wanted Mariana’s ex to be somewhere deep in her like 2017 feed.

When he steps out of the bathroom, his cufflinks slip out of his grip, and they clatter loudly on the tiles.
She’s leaning over the vanity, fully dressed, and rummaging around her makeup bag.
“Is that the lipstick that gets…everywhere?”

i think it’s very sexy that A’s narrative is tied into the concept of reservation and emotional repression and being very In Control emotionally, to an extreme, and how that’s paralleled with how almost all of their lapses in control Emotionally are shown with physical destruction
like… the furniture breaking jokes are funny until you remember just how strong A is and how little effort it takes for them to pulverize a desk, and how they break things on the regular with their few emotional outbursts. you can’t tell me A isn’t painfully aware of how easy it would be to accidentally hurt the detective. the FLAVOR of A’s main ability being their strength, which requires Extreme Control, being the first thing to come out when they lose control over their emotions… put together with how the detective is making it harder and harder for them to maintain that control…. and how the detective is objectively Fragile compared to A and their strength…. and A’s (obvious) fear of the detective being harmed, of them harming the detective (emotionally or otherwise)…. like it’s just– ugh!
