The king watched intently as wolves began to surround the girl. He stood silently for a moment, trying to combat his fear with information. Su-won had seen wolves before, but never up close and never this huge.

His life felt much more secure when he noticed that when the supernatural woman gave a signal, the wolves obeyed. Sure, they were wild animals, so it was questionable if they could truly be controlled, but the girl was a wild animal herself. His life was truly in the hands of his first impression. Besides, if he called for backup, a battle would surely begin and he would be in grave danger. 

The howling resonated deep within him, striking doubt into his plan, but he continued anyway. 

“Gahh-! I-I’m sorry! I-I was just t-taking a walk...” He clumsily stepped out from behind the tree, knees bent and arms raised to her. He looked up quickly to see the bloodthirsty eyes of a pack of wolves and a terrifying girl. Stay calm. Stick to the act. 

His eyes darted back and forth as he met their gazes as his face contorted in fear. “P-Please don’t kill me!” He shouted with his head bowed, showing submission to the woman. After all, you can’t get information out of someone if you’re dead.

Soo-won, after meeting the other dragons, didn’t doubt for a second that one girl could have that much power. The only question was: what did she want? 

After reading some reports, and reprimanding his generals for beginning the mission without his consent, his thoughts were spinning around the dragoness. If she wanted power, she would’ve sought the help of companions to help her take over the castle, right? 

Eventually, he decided that the best course of action was just to ask her himself. Hopefully, she would reveal that she didn’t want to fight, and Soo-won could resolve the conflict without any more bloodshed. However, on General Judoh’s request, he still had a few soldiers accompany him in case things went awry.

The next morning, they begun the search for the young woman. Soo-won formulated a plan that involved him going to speak to her alone, but would have his defense in hiding to swoop in and protect him at a moment’s notice. 

When they located the woman, everyone got it position, and Soo-won stepped off of his horse and walked into the forest to meet her. He caught a glimpse of her, and instead of charging in and interrogating her, he stood back and watched her. After all, he knew if she felt as though she was not in control of the interaction, she would run. If she started the conversation, the result may just end up being in Soo-won’s favor.

I could see him getting jealous over a very close friend, since I doubt he has many. He wouldn’t get angry, but he’d definitely think no, this is my person, you can’t have them. ᴛʀᴜsᴛᴡᴏʀᴛʜʏ: He absolutely is, unless his hand is forced. There are times when he would have to make huge sacrifices for the sake of his cover and his country, and sacrifices to someone’s trust may just be less important than his cause. He hates that. He’s a trustworthy person, but the fate he chose doesn’t respect that. sɪɴɢʟᴇ: yep ᴄᴏɴsɪᴅᴇʀᴇᴅ ᴍᴇᴀɴ: depends on the perspective, but mean seems like a pretty weak word for him given by those who have been betrayed him. They’d choose much more harsh words than that. ʜᴀʀᴍᴇᴅ ᴛʜᴇᴍsᴇʟᴠᴇs: honestly.... probably. I need to think about that headcanon more though. ᴄᴏɴsɪᴅᴇʀᴇᴅ sᴜɪᴄɪᴅᴇ: maybe? same as before. considered would be the key word though. he’s got too much to do. ғᴇᴀʀs: I doubt he’s afraid of much. Not because he’s valiant and kingly, but because most of his fears have already come true. Maybe Kouka falling under his reign. Disappointing Yuhon. something like that. sɪʙʟɪɴɢs: nope ᴘᴀʀᴇɴᴛs: we have no information about his mother, and his father was a super awesome general before he was killed by King Il. ᴄʜɪʟᴅʀᴇɴ: ehhh. he’s young but he’s busy. plus he’s baffled by anything romance related. ᴘᴇᴛ(s): nah

The silence surrounding the two was deafening as the girl in Su-won’s arms was quickly claimed by her exhaustion. His thoughts wandered to how comforting such a position would be if it were not for the emotions brought on by his harrowing betrayal. The guilt-ridden king kept his eyes locked on his destination when Yona mumbled the statement in her sleep that would surely haunt Su-won for many more sleepless nights. 

Her soft voice rang over and over in his mind, but he had done what he had to. It was necessary to discard her to reach his goal.

A king did not show remorse. A king brought down every enemy in his path without batting an eye. Kouka’s valiant king would not tremble in the face of adversity. The word ‘regret’ would not be in his vocabulary. 

Carefully, as not to wake her, he lowered his head so that it lightly rested on hers for a moment. 

“I’m sorry, Yona. I’m so sorry.”

Before walking into the open town currently crawling with his men, Su-won quickly formulated a plan to hide the young princess. He entered the small empty barracks from a back door so they would not be seen, then gently set Yona down on the bed closest to it. He then locked the back door and stepped out the front to let Ju-doh know how simply exhausted he was and that he had to take a nap so he had the energy to help finish the rest of the day’s projects. After getting reluctant permission, he stepped quietly back inside and walked over to Yona’s bed.

Su-won covered Yona with a thin blanket before lying down in the next bed closest to the front door so that if someone were to walk in, they would see him instead of Yona. 

He supposed she would have to sleep next to him one last time in order to stay hidden. 

As she felt herself picked up, Yona just kept her gaze averted downwards and half closed. Hopefully this decision she made would not come back and bite her. The moment she was rested up is when she would be gone and head back to the others. Yona had no reason to stay longer than she needed.

Once again she closed her eyes, her head rested against Su-Won. This reminds me of when we were younger, of happier times. Yona thought to herself. At one time she felt safe in these arms, they were warm and comforting. Even now…..as he carried her. No, no she couldn’t let her mind go astray. Pretty soon Yona had fallen asleep while also mumbling.

“Father…..I miss you.”
