in my head, if oliver and felix did kiss, it probably would've been the least-tame scene in the whole film. in my head, it would barely even register as a kiss. if oliver was ever given the chance to kiss felix, it probably would've been so violent. scratches, bruises, blood. wounds all over both of their bodies, blood mixing in a way that oliver's freak ass would find incredibly pleasing, painful but enjoyable. so brutal that you can barely even make out if they're enjoying it or not. is it a kiss or are they literally devouring each other? it wouldn't last long and both of them would probably be so contact-drunk that they can't even speak to each other. maybe it does last a while though. maybe they tear and rip at each other (literally and metaphorically) so violently that they bleed out together, covered in each other in quite literally one of the most grotesque but intimate ways ever. their relationship in my brain is so distorted I need help

It's soooo upsetting seeing the way Oliver pleads for Felix to recognize him again in the maze when Felix is looking at him like he's a stranger. You just know he COULD NOT STOP compulsively trying to talk to Felix after the birthday surprise fallout like. we see him literally following him around that night like a sick little puppyboy 😭😭. GOD if only Oliver could have just left him alone, i swear things could have been sooo different for them. But I know he was just relentlessly talking at Felix in the car, popping into every room Felix was in, basically just annoying the hell out of him and making things so much worse, digging both of their holes deeper and deeper, putting more and more space between them. Oliver thinking that if he could only find the right combination of words to say, Felix would forgive him and everything would go back to the way it was before, pristine and untouched. But that doesn't happen so Oliver just keeps throwing combinations of words together to see if anything sticks and ofc it doesn't bc Felix is still in the heat of his moment. OLIVER YOU IDIOT you should have just let him blow off steam for the night and left a note or something for him and waited for him to reach out to you bc I KNOW HE WOULD HAVE EVENTUALLY LOL. mental health episodes are a hell of a drug tho so I do understand but it honestly just destroys me inside whenever I think of it lol.

In a way it's both interesting and upsetting that Felix's life ended before he ever got the chance to become jaded or cynical. After finding out the truth about Oliver and listening to him say that everyone's constantly putting on a show for him, I'm sure Felix would have been slightly less carefree. A little less trusting. A bit more hardened to the realities of life. He never gets the opportunity, never gets to grow or change or realize all the ways they were both young and wrong or reflect on any of his flaws. So Felix stays vibrant and beautiful and wrong in a lot of ways and trusting and warm and open. Even in his casket, even deep underground, surrounded by layers of dirt and earth - Felix is still youthful and naive and soft behind the ears, velvet under the chin. Gracefully vulnerable. Pastel walls with turquoise and gold accents. Pristine white corded silk and rose petals in his grave. He never grew resentful or bitter or cold and he never will. He stays the oldest version of himself at only 19. Felix River Catton, facing eternity at only 19.

"With my memory restricted to a Polaroid in evidence" -- Oliver was a gatekeeper. He shared what he wanted us to know about Felix, which is not a lot at all. We aren't given a chance to dive deep into Felix's upbringing or what he's interested in. We see him hanging out with friends and having conversations but we don't get to know what they're talking about. When Felix dies, we aren't even given a shot of his body because Oliver doesn't want us to see him. Oliver doesn't want us to see anything because he want's Felix to be his and his only.
 
"You're so handsome when I'm all over your mouth" -- This lyric isn't very literal here but I'll explain. Of course, we have the controversial take that Felix left the door open on purpose during the bathroom scene, wanting Oliver to watch and interact with him. He dresses Oliver in his clothes for dinner, puts him in a bedroom close to his own bedroom, allows Oliver to share his bathroom, placing kisses on Oliver to his liking. His, his, his. No, Oliver's not handsome when Felix is all over Oliver's mouth. He is when Felix is "all over" Oliver in general. Felix took joy in changing and adjusting Oliver to his liking and Oliver went along with it. Anything to make Felix happy.
 
"If I'm turning in your stomach and I'm making you feel sick" -- A different take on a similar lyric here. For Felix, this lyric doesn't make much sense until after he's already dead. He's gone and it's Oliver's fault. The lies, the corruption, the poison(literally and metaphorically). Felix is gone and now he gets to make Oliver feel sick. Felix get's to roam around and churn in Oliver's body, in Olver's mind and make him feel so deathly ill. The roles have reversed and yet the both of them still lose in the end.

been listening to Strangers by Ethel Cain pretty religiously for the past 3 months and I made the connection to Saltburn because obviously. I always listened to the song from Oliver's pov though. Which makes the most sense, of course. 
 
"Don't talk to strangers or you might fall in love." -- Of course Oliver denies the fact that he was in love with Felix because yeah. He wasn't typical head-over-heals, strangers to friends to lovers, boy best friends in love with Felix. There's no way he could have been. But he was in love with Felix. In love with a pinch of limerence. With a heaping scoop of limerence. He was obsessed, yes, but he was, in his own way, in love with Felix.
 
"I tried to be good, am I no good?" -- Oliver's performance was probably more important to him than Felix himself. He spends the bulk of the movie putting on a show for Felix, trying to get Felix to like him (bc Felix is a selfish mf but that's a different story). Oliver goes so far into his plan that it seems as if he cares more about the process of getting Felix to like them than the actual outcome, which played a part in the downfall of their "relationship".
 
"I'm happier here cause he told me I should be" and "Don't think about it too hard or you'll never sleep a wink at night again" -- When Felix invites Oliver to Saltburn, he does it to cheer Oliver up. He tells Oliver that he can come there so he doesn't have to be alone and sad. He does this so Oliver can be happy. Once Oliver has gotten rid of Felix's family and inherits Saltburn, he isn't happy. A lot of people view the ending scene of Oliver dancing as joyful. This man is not happy. That is a coked out, depressed, sloppy shell of a human being. Oliver doesn't want to deal with the reality he's created for himself because he doesn't like it. He's putting on the front of being happy because he thinks he should be happy. He's gotten everything he wanted, right? *loud incorrect buzzer*
 
"Am I making you feel sick" -- I feel like this is a thought or a statement that clouded Oliver's head throughout the entire film but it really starts to make sense after Oliver's lies are revealed to Felix. Especially during their conversation/argument in the maze. This one just speaks for itself, there’s not much left to explain
 
 
But the more I listened to the song, the more I realized it makes sense from Felix's pov as well. pt 2 is on its way
