one of my coworkers tried to advocate for me during her exit interview bc of the 20k pay disparity between me & another person in my year but it sounds like it went really badly & she called me to be like uhhhh so if management retaliates against you just fyi it’s mostly their fault but also kind of mine so i’ll write you a really nice reference letter for your next job
Here’s the Self-Indulgent Thing! Inspired by the general vibe of Splatoon 3, I injected Calamari Inkantation with some high-octane rock and roll (in the style of one of my favorite bands). This answers a question that only I have ever asked.
(this was in the works for a long while before the Direct, for the record)
I like to think of Steve relying on Eddie as his nerd interpreter when the conversation starts to get over his head. Instead of having to ask the kids what a lycanthrope is, he just kind of sidles over and gives a "???" look to Eddie who leans in and whispers a quick explanation without making him look dumb to everyone. This works great when the subjects under discussion are related to Eddie's hobbies and interests but sometimes they turn more academic, because these kids are science nerds as well as science fiction nerds, and when he "???"s at Eddie, Eddie whispers, "Super flattered you think I might know, but remember my grades are worse than yours." Then he takes the bullet for Steve by asking the dumb question out loud so he can hear the answer too.
On one occasion Lucas makes a sports analogy, Eddie looks baffled and doesn't even have time to look for Steve before he's whispering to him all excited because he can finally help him back.
[id: screenshots of tiktok captions. the images say, “but the only reason we still love princess diana is because she did not have the time to disappoint us.”]
begging queer kids to read up on princess diana’s involvement with the community. yes, she was a rich, pretty monarch. yes, she died young.
but the reason why queer people love her is because she used her privilege during the aids crisis to advocate for sick queer men, when very few others would - much less someone of her status.
diana spent years advocating for the health and care of queer people with hiv/aids. in 1987, at the height of the epidemic, she opened the first specialist clinic dedicated to treating aids patients (the first clinic of it’s kind in the uk).
she also fought public hysteria by hugging and shaking bare hands with aids patients, at a time when aids was thought to be spread by skin to skin contact. not only that, she visited patients in the clinic regularly and even comforted them through their sickness.
and when queen elizabeth told her to try focusing on “something more pleasant”?
diana ignored her and kept fighting.
and this is only her work towards the aids crisis. she publicly called out the royal family, brought attention to numerous world issues, and was known as an advocate for empathy and kindness. she’s known and loved as the people’s princess for good reason
Everyone keeps talking about Steve & Lucas parallels but leaves out what I think is arguably the most important similarity to note… Lucas does and has perfected Steve’s exasperated mom™️ stance.
dustin held eddie while he bled to death. lucas had to watch max's bones snap. will and robin had to watch people they were in love with be in love with someone else. outcasts don't get happy endings. queers do not get happy endings. that is ultimately the message stranger things has left me with.
the reason venom 2 and jennifer's body are the same is because straight men are so used to being the only group catered to unless explicity told otherwise (i.e. "chick flicks") that when they have just a regular movie that wasn't made explicitly for them, they throw a hissy fit
