the Columbia University arrests are worse than they seem. They're arresting protesting students for trespassing. It goes without saying students cannot meaningfully "trespass" in the common areas of a university they attend. So Columbia University has suspended all student protestors from their institution, in the process revoking their access to housing, their belonging, and most crucially damaging their academic futures. We are witnessing full scale silencing and removal of anyone of conscience from the next generation of academia.

Hey so I know Black Sails was a while ago and I’m late to the pirate party but I desperately need your attention for a moment because I’m losing my MIND.
Obviously the show is a fantastic no-holds-barred blend of history and fiction, but there’s one historical connection that I thought was half my imagination at first, but every second I look at this shit I’m sliding downhill into acceptance.

Yes, that’s a picture of Horatio Nelson on the end. I know, and I’m sorry. Please give me a chance to explain myself.
We have, right to left, Admiral Nelson, Sir William Hamilton, and Sir William’s wife, Emma Hamilton, mostly remembered for her extraordinarily blatant and scandalous affair with Nelson. It was a hell of a thing. There were contemporary rude cartoons about William Hamilton being so scholarly and oblivious that he didn’t know his wife was openly carrying on with Nelson. There’s even a movie about it starring Vivien Leigh and Laurence Olivier, for whatever that’s worth.
But it’s a little ridiculous, the extent to which their torrid affair is remembered for having happened under William Hamilton’s nose. Nelson lived with the both of them for extended periods, traveled across Europe with them, wrote incessantly to them. In fact, they referred to themselves fondly as the Tria juncta in uno– that is to say, three joined in one.

This has been driving me completely bonkers wrt the attitudes of the historical accounts for a hot minute now, particularly since Emma became a social pariah for their highly-publicized presumed affair after Sir William, and then Nelson, predeceased her, but I honestly cannot, for a single eight-hundredth of a second, imagine that the concept of the Hamiltons and Lt. McGraw came about without some awareness of the self-proclaimed Tria of the actual married Hamiltons and their very dearly loved Naval hero.
And, for one final small item of infuriatingly minor but TOO CONVENIENT connection– Sir William Hamilton had been married once, prior to Emma, and was widowed by his first wife’s early death. His first wife, with whom he was eventually buried, was named Catherine Hamilton, née Barlow.

Thalia doesn’t keep many things in the hundreds of years she’s been alive.
But long ago, there were people, their names all but distant memories, who mattered in her 1st lifetime. It’s their things that stay hidden in her bag, reminding her of her mortal life.
A blue hoodie, worn almost threadbare. The scent of its original owner, long since leached from the fabric. But if she closes her eyes, she can almost see the blue eyes of her first and only love.
A pair of glasses. Frames cracked and crooked. A reminder of a brother she never got to truly know.
A baseball cap. It’s magic long faded, branded with a forgotten logo. Memories of a blonde girl laughing hidden deep within.
A letter. Ink fading, paper yellow. The last words of a dying friend. Words that wish her well, words that wished her well in a world they had fought side by side to save.
Thalia doesn’t keep a lot of things, but even after all this time, Luke, Jason, Annabeth, and Percy will stay with her forever. The memories of her first family to remind her why life is so beautiful.

you know when people start speaking another language around you? when they purposefully don’t want you to understand? like maybe your mom and grandma are obviously not wanting you to understand what’s going on?
i love the thought of when percy and annabeth are discussing something very serious or dangerous or frightening - anything that their mortal families shouldn’t hear - the two of them just start speaking in ancient greek. which would be… so weird. like these two dyslexic teens/young adults are just casually speaking an ancient language. and it’s not a causal sounding language like spanish, either. remember poseidon and zeus speaking it in the pjo series finale? it’s like… intense. it just SOUNDS historical. it’s very foreign and ancient sounding. it would feel kinda surreal to actually hear, especially coming from them.
like obviously their parents and siblings know they’re hardwired to speak ancient greek, but knowing they can do it and actually hearing/seeing them communicate that way are completely different things. and it would really hit them that these two are part of a completely other world. i mean…they’re not even human. they’re half greek god. they just casually speak the language of greek gods.
sorry i know this is all common knowledge. i’m just having a “woah.” moment.
