Where can nurses use OET results in the USA?
Nurses moving to the USA must satisfy several requirements for both licensing and visas. While the process can be complex, choosing an English test is easy.
OET is the only English language test designed for nurses. It uses scenarios taken from the workplace to assess a nurse’s English level. OET results can be used to obtain healthcare worker certification, which is required for visa applications, as well as to obtain nursing licenses in states across the USA.
Let’s take a closer look at where you can use your results migrating and registering in the USA.
Where can I use OET results?
OET is now recognized by CGFNS International, Inc. for the VisaScreen®: Visa Credentials Assessment Service. Additionally, we are also now recognized by Josef Silny & Associates, Inc. for the Visa4Nurses Certificate. Those certificates can be used to apply for RN, LPN, and LVN Immigrant visas (EB-3 or Green Card).
Before you apply for US immigration, you will need to register for a state nursing license. Some states will accept your OET results when you apply for a license. These states are listed here: Florida, Oregon, Washington, Michigan, Massachusetts, Arkansas, and DC.
Some states will accept your CGFNS VisaScreen® Certificate when you apply for a nursing license and will not require further proof of English proficiency. These states include West Virginia, South Carolina, and Arizona.
Other states and territories will not require you to present any English proficiency results to apply for the license and you will only need your OET results for your immigration application. These states and territories include New York, Montana, North Mariana Islands, Guam, American Samoa, and the US Virgin Islands.
If your nursing education was in English, you may not be required to present further English proficiency for a state license. Therefore, you will only need your OET results for the immigration application. States that follow this include Texas and Pennsylvania.
It’s important to know that every nursing candidate has to pass the NCLEX-RN or NCLEX-PN exam before they can start work in the USA. State nursing boards apply different passing score requirements so it is important to check and confirm those requirements with the state you are applying to.
Why should I take OET?
OET is designed specifically for nurses. It uses real-world nursing scenarios to assess your English skills. You will practice your English skills and be assessed using the language you use in your workplace.
Close to 98% of OET course candidates said they chose OET because it was healthcare specific. Nurses who take OET do so because it makes them feel more confident. When you compare it with general English tests, it's clear why so many nurses choose OET.
For example, a general English test will ask you to write an essay on a random topic like honey making or the democratic purpose. OET on the other hand will ask you to write a referral or discharge letter to another nurse or healthcare professional.
In addition to OET being unique to healthcare, nurses also choose OET for the vast preparation resources available on our website and social channels.

Difference between IELTS General Writing Task 2 and Academic Writing Task 2
Difference between IELTS General Writing Task 2 and Academic Writing Task 2
Essays in IELTS Academic will be slightly tougher than in IELTS General.
The choice of topics will vary between the two. IELTS Academic will have complex topics whereas IELTS General will have comparatively simpler ones.
IELTS Writing Task 2 Tips (or) IELTS Essay Writing Tips
IELTS writing task 2 is the second part of the two writing tasks and is one of the most challenging parts of the IELTS test. Most students also find it to be more difficult compared to IELTS Writing task 1.
What should you know about Writing Task 2?
You will be allotted 40 minutes to complete this task.
The essay should comprise 4-5 paragraphs including the introduction and conclusion.
DO NOT compose too many body paragraphs. Around 2-3 body paragraphs would be sufficient.
Use proper grammar/vocab to convey your ideas or points. (e.g.) Words used to give reasons – because, due to. (or) words used to contradict points – however, but, although.
Plan your essay
1. Identify what is asked in the question.
Do you have to write for both sides or do you have to choose a side?
Do you have to provide answers to all the questions?
Do you have to convey only the advantages and disadvantages or do you have to give an opinion?
2. Brainstorm the main points. 3. Construct your paragraphs.
Gather your supporting points for the central idea of each paragraph with examples.
4. Check your Task Response
Check on the number of questions asked. Did you answer it all?
Were you told to choose a side? Did you choose a side?
Do all your paragraphs focus on one central topic/idea?
Do these ideas have supporting points and answers?
Remember that you aren’t being assessed for your knowledge but for your ability to put your thoughts through in an essay using the English Language. Although relevancy is one of the factors you’re assessed upon, it isn’t the only factor. Do not spend too much time on making the content perfect!

How do I improve reading skills for IELTS?
In the IELTS test, the reading test is the second part of the test after the listening test. You'll have to read three long passages and answer 40 questions about them. The main difficulty of this test is answering the questions accurately after reading the passage in a short amount of time. So, to crack the exam in a given time & answer all the questions accurately, I am sharing a list of reading tips here:-
1. Try to Focus on the Question First - Instead of spending time reading the text first, focus on the questions. Read them carefully and highlight any keywords—names, dates, numbers, adjectives, and adverbs. Next, skim the text to find the section that contains these keywords. You will then have to read this section carefully and compare the information here to the information in the questions. If you can’t find the answer, you may be reading too quickly. Slow down and read the section again.
2. Practice Paraphrasing & Synonyms - For the IELTS reading test, you need to make your vocabulary strong. The passage will express ideas like those that the keywords convey in the questions, but the ideas will be expressed differently, with synonyms and paraphrasing. They will not be communicated with the same keywords. Having an extensive vocabulary will help you to understand ideas in the reading passages.
3. Increase your speed reading skills - IELTS reading exam has a strict time limit which will challenge your ability to complete the questions in time. Try to develop your speed reading skills to be able to find your answers quickly. This means you must be able to scan the passage to locate information.
4. Skimming and Scanning - You must be able to skim and scan passages to do well in IELTS. Skimming is reading a passage to get a general idea of the content, recommended to do before you tackle the questions. With this, you can just get a chance to get a sense of the topic and layout. While reading underling any keyword you see in the paragraph. The only type of questions that comes before the passage is matching headings for those, you don't need to read the passage first. Scanning is your ability to locate information quickly and has no relation to comprehension of the passage.
5. Practice - Do practice regularly, unless you won't improve. From the different websites, you can do online practice. The lesson is useful for students taking both the GT IELTS test and academic test because they are aimed at building skills, understanding of question types, and also vocabulary.

OET Writing Guidelines You Should Know
The Occupational English Test is divided into four subparts to evaluate your English proficiency in the healthcare industry.
Writing
Listening
Speaking
Reading
OET Writing Guidelines You Should Know Each profession-specific writing subtest calculates the candidate's writing abilities. A reference letter must typically be written by the candidate while adhering to the case notes and work guidelines.
However, non-native applicants may find this straightforward writing assignment difficult and stressful, which affects their final grades. Based on the evaluation standards used to score the subtest, we will talk about some OET writing guidelines in this article.
Relevant Information: Relevant Information is the most crucial requirement. You can't fill out your letter with every tiniest, pointless detail. Select only the pertinent details for your letter from the information provided in the case notes. You cannot anticipate that your letter would be understandable without appropriate substance. It is equally crucial to accurately portray the topic you have chosen in your letter after making your choice. Remain focused on your core message, don't alter the letter's meaning.
Vocabulary: To get a decent grade, you must pay close attention to all aspects of the English language, including grammar, vocabulary, punctuation, and spelling. It's necessary to have a solid command of the grammar if you want to convey the letter's goal. Along with evaluating your knowledge of the language's numerous facets, the examiner will assess your ability to apply it appropriately.
Objective: Writing the objective is an important rule of the OET writing subtest. Using the case notes and task instructions provided, you must determine the purpose of your letter. After analyzing the goal, you must effectively state it in your letter. Declaring your objective in the first sentence allows the reader to save time and get right to the point. After stating your purpose, you can build the rest of the letter around it by including details and information.
The OET writing task will assess your writing abilities. The examiner would undoubtedly want you to be flawless in your act writing. That is why you need to understand the criteria for the writing test. You must adhere to those requirements. If you do not write it according to the rules, it must be hard to obtain the desired score.
Most candidates fail to achieve the required score on the test because they do not focus on the actual relevance. It can be error-free and grammatically correct, but if it does not fully answer the question, it will not be considered a good answer.
Remember that you must answer all parts of the question. You may be asked to turn relevant notes into sentences. At the same time, you must concentrate on the word count. You may not exceed the word limit of 180-200. You do not need to expand abbreviations to reach the desired word length. Concentrate on increasing the critical situations relevant to the case notes.
