i think one of the appeals of tango to me is, not to reveal the fact i used to spend a lot of time on tvtropes as a teenager, that he's very much to me the bunny-ears lawyer. which, for the record, is a trope where a character has some obvious quirk or thing that would normally make them not fit for a job, they're just otherwise so ABSURDLY COMPETENT that you keep them on anyway. for example: a lawyer who always wears pink bunny ears to court, but also always manages to win cases despite this obvious quirk.

anyway that is tango to me. he is a cartoon character and an absurd guy who makes, uh, lets call it questionably yonic corners. however he is so absurdly competent at his redstoning and contraptions that it outweighs any downside the ridiculousness would entail. sure, if you have tango help you on your project he's going to die repeatedly with comedic pianos falling on his head and exploding totems or whatever, and make cartoon noises the whole time. he'll just ALSO be able to set up that dynamic chunk loading for you so really, you have no choice here,

Fanfic tiktok is wild... I see so many people saying shit like "I could never read anything below 60k!!", or "What story can you even tell in under 5k words?" or "A oneshot below 10k isn't even a story!" or "I always filter completed fics by 100k< only!"

And I'm like...

A) which fandoms are you reading fics for where you have this kind of offerings on the regular?

B) have you heard of short stories? If you truly think every story NEEDS to be longform to connect with people, I sincerely feel sorry for you.

C) Average novel length is between 50k to 100k. I'm sorry, but CONSISTENTLY demanding fic writers to push out fics of that length is insane. Just think about it: YOU DEMAND AUTHORS TO PUT OUT FICS THAT COMPARE TO COMMERCIAL NOVELS IN LENGTH (AND QUALITY) AS A BASELINE.

Yall are wilding.

Ok so a hermitcraft s10 au where it is just the hermits living weird but also plausible lives in some town/city somewhere.

Pearl, Tango, and Etho are mail workers trying to live out their normal lives. But Pearl's Brother/relative/longtime friend Grian has somehow started a fishing cult… and now he's got a job for the government. Oh brilliant.

And local zoologist, Mr. Scar Goodtimes, is being terrorised by snails that the local fishing cult leader/government worker, and his partner in crime - a certain Gemini Tay -, insist are from space.

Also, the mafia and the resident mad(ist) scientist are competing to monopolize the wood industry but the town's resident poet and puppet master Joe Hills is up to something (or maybe just being himself).

The local ministry has a skull and they all wear hats. Noise complaints for fireworks are the number one thing reported to police. Cleo runs a very successful cat cafe/bookstore. There is a (sword) fight club in the Japanese district. Graffiti might become a problem soon. There is now a river, somehow. And local mustached inventor almost ended the fishing cult by accidently almost scamming the leader out of his prised possession.

I've seen So Many Comments/chat messages yesterday and today about "when are Martyn and Jimmy going to join HC?" or "they better join in s11!!"

And I get that! It's been super fun seeing everyone interact, and they mesh so well socially, and it's fun to think about creators you like getting to all hang out more.

But I wish I could just hang up a big banner in the metaphorical public square w/ the reminder that there's no reason to assume either of them wants to join Hermitcraft. Everything we've heard so far (afaik) is that neither Jimmy nor Martyn prefer long-term SMPs. Hermitcraft's most recent season was 21 months. Outside of that, they may not want to tie their career to one SMP, or overlap their social life + work that much more, or have to coordinate logistically with that large of a group! (~27 people on a discord call. Every week.)

It's like assuming anyone with a bio degree wants to be a doctor, or anyone running a small bakery wants to be a Michelin-starred chef - those roles are neat and impressive and not at all universally desirable.

(To be clear: They may also have not been in consideration, which could have its own impersonal and logical justifications! But I'd default to assuming a lack of desire, not a lack of welcome.)

I think at this point we need to acknowledge that scar doesn't want to talk about shipping. It clearly makes him uncomfortable.

He's been asked multiple times and will always evade making a clear answer.

I think it's safe to say his stance is something along the lines of "what fandom does is fandoms business, I would rather I'm not a part of that conversation".

Zookeeper Scar who can communicate with animals; he understands them and they understand him.

Except no one else has figured this out yet. It’s not like Scar is trying to hide it, he talks out loud to animals all the time, and has full conversations in plain view of everyone. He’s even flat out told Grian that his horse thinks he smells like fish. It’s not that he tries to hide this ability, it’s just that everyone who sees it happening assumes it’s just Scar being Scar. They think it’s just another bit.

Until Scar mentions something embarrassing that he absolutely could not know unless someone who was there told him about it, and Bdubs knows for a fact that only his horse had been there when he’d fallen off his own base and died on impact.

idk who it was but someone on this site said hermitcraft is like several different cartoons mushed together and nothing supports that notion more than cyberpunk man, steampunk man, solarpunk woman, fisherman and fisherwoman, Japanese von sway etho, Japanese cyberpunk man, cottage core man and DocM77 living on the same server.
