I recently finished @i-m-p-a-v-i-d-u-s's dark fantasy debut!

I do admit this one was a slow burn for me because this is a narrative that takes its time to immerse you and let you breathe and get invested in the characters for the emotional payoff. I officially dub it Dark Fantasy With Feelings™ the setting may be bleak, the odds of success might be slim, the characters might have trauma abound... but there is still a well of tenderness underpinning it all. It's not misery porn for the sake of it, the pain means something, the love was not in vain and the hope isn't just there to be mocked and thwarted!

If you like dark political intrigue in thick tomes of epic length that span over the course of three books, give this one a gander! It's completely finished so you don't have to linger around for the next book to come out. And I will certainly be diving into the next entries soon...

I'm sorry to you; I heard Freydis/Taylor harassed you for talking about how sex-less books get less attention, and I think that issue is at it's worst in the indie space. I'm really sorry for how they treated you. In private, whenever the topic of sexual books having an advantage in the indie space was brought up, Freydis/Taylor would get upset and reference how anti-sex corporations are hurting creators (which is true), but Taylor would take it too far and get disproportionately upset about any, like, random person who complained about how sex-focused indie book spaces are. (This seems to have been their main shtick — referring to real issues for marginalized people then using that as a way to bully others, taking things too far over and over again. )

If anyone told them to relax, Taylor fell back on their status as a person of color and saying they were asexual. The race thing turned out to be a lie, so I wouldn't be surprised if the ace thing may as well have been too. I should say that I didn't see Taylor's back-and-forth with you on Twitter at the time but seeing it now, I'm not surprised at all.

Anyway, I highly encourage any of my followers reading this to check out Vice's dark fantasy books! They're about identity, family, grief, and love. You can get them here on Amazon.

best trope is the one where the character’s godlike power is also killing them btw. they don’t even lift a hand to kill the monster but now they’re delirious with fever. they save a friend’s life and said friend immediately finds them emergency medical care. they raze the enemy to nothing and it takes far too long to find their pulse with all the bruising. their friends just constantly having to patch them up and worrying over which feat will be their last. et cetera

pesto is great for many bites but to me it’s always been a kind of samey indulgent experience in a specific way where if you happily eat your way through a large enough portion there will hit a point where you will very suddenly experience something called “pesto remorse” which i have just invented

most people know Jon Bois from 17776. but before 17776, there was The Dugout. basically, The Dugout was a series of fake AOL Instant Messenger chat rooms created by Jon and a group of other folks. they were similar to the fake text posts you see here on tumblr. it was hosted at www.WordUpThome.com, named after Philadelphia baseball legend Jim Thome.

anyway, The Dugout was so far ahead of its time and somehow perfectly on point for its era. but as far as i know, there's no way to access the content anymore. i think at one point it was accessible via the Internet Archive but i haven't been able to find it despite several attempts over the years.

this is the only screenshot i have been able to find, which in itself is hysterical and only makes me pine for an archive even more.
