look i don’t give a shit how “heartbreaking” it is to disown your gay kid, you literally Do Not Have To Do That. nobody’s forcing you to abandon this person who wholly depends on you for everything and who you promised to take care of and love no matter what.
So there will be two separate posts here. One of things that are bothering me about how the fandom is handling Good Omens, and one of things I am loving.
One thing that’s been seriously creeping me out lately has been the number of people acting like because we don’t see the dicks touch on screen, it’s not queer.
(I explicitly say queer here because I don’t know how many times it has to be said in the book and by Neil that angels don’t have gender (which is also Jewish canon) so insisting that these characters are ‘gay men’ is misgendering and making my non-binary heart all grossed out. So their relationship is definitely queer but not necessarily gay.)
Part of the reason that the whole EXCUSE ME NEIL CAN YOU CONFIRM THAT THE DICKS TOUCH thing bothers me overlaps with the number of posts (and there have been several) saying ‘omg look at this picture of Terry and Neil, they’re Az and Crowley!’
So… people are basically going ‘hey Neil can you please confirm for me whether these characters we’re joking about being self-inserts of you and your dead very close friend are super gay for each other and do gay sexy things?’
And that combination has made me want to crawl out of my skin.
I know people want characters to say ‘I am queer for you and I love you’ or it doesn’t count to them as representation. And to a certain extent, with the amount of queerbaiting that goes on in the world, I get that.
But when you have Super Romantic Music swelling whenever one of them does something nice for the other – see the book-saving in WWII – which is identical to the music for the het couples… like…
Just… enough already. It feels like we’re not allowed to just fucking enjoy some pretty clear queer rep without shredding apart its every imperfection.
I’m so tired.
Do not reblog my posts and tag them as ‘q slur’ or ‘q word.’ Respect my clearly-stated boundaries. If you feel compelled to tag those things, don’t reblog my posts. I will just block you if you cannot respect clearly-stated boundaries.
everyone who writes their ‘7’s with a little dash through them had a conscious moment of truth where they actively chose to write ‘7’ in that way and never stopped doing it like if you can’t clearly recall that fateful decision wyd
