Tri-Ace and Square Enix have, once again, come together to create an involved JRPG for a worldwide audience. After creating successful franchises such as Star Ocean and Valkyrie Profile, we expected a lot from the team’s latest offering. Unfortunately, Infinite Undiscovery doesn’t deliver the way I had hoped it would.

The fast-paced combat is interesting and the main storyline is solid, but the tacked on side quests, unwieldy team combat mechanic, and incessant party management makes this a title for the JRPG hardcore and not a broader audience.

Infinite Undiscovery tells an interesting story of a world and its moon. The moon is responsible for keeping balance and harmony on the planet and bestows powerful magical talents to the majority of the people. The story in Infinite Undiscovery follows a young musician named Capell, who looks identical to the world’s prophesied savior, Sigmund, but who has, at least initially, none of his warrior spirit. As such, Capell is thrust into dangerous situations for which he is simply not prepared. Capell’s ensuing struggle against a cult known as The Order of Chains and their leader, Leonid the Dreadknight, will test the youth’s resolve and the previous notions he had of himself and his life’s path.

The Order of Chains is powerful force that has captured the moon for itself, trying to harness its power to pave the way for their leader’s ascension to godhood, while denying the rest of the world’s inhabitants their right to be blessed by the moon. Moreover, the unnatural chains that have tethered the moon are throwing of the balance and unleashing foul creatures upon the lands. It is up to Capell, the hero Sigmund, and an eclectic group of heroes called the Liberation Force to put an end to the chaining of the moon and the machinations of the Dreadknight.

Sadly, though players will enjoy the interesting world and engaging characters, they will be hard-pressed to find any fun extras. You see, the side quests in Infinite Undiscovery are little more than glorified errands that do little in the way of rewarding your characters. Consequently, these quests are a dispensable waste of time. That means players interested in achieving 100% completion will be bogged down in a river of dull and superfluous missions that have no substantial bearing on the main quest. This definitely hampers the amount of genuine content to be found in the game, despite the fact it is spread over two disks.

Concerning presentation, the smooth animations, interesting character models, varied, detailed environments, and flashy magic and combat effects are great. Plus, the preponderance of excellently crafted cutscenes really help to convey the tale for those who enjoy Japanese storytelling. On the downside, the intensity of the visuals and the hectic battles can lead to extensive clipping and slowdown. This definitely was an eyesore and even impeded gameplay. This is an unfortunate, major blemish on an otherwise pretty game. Graciously, the presentation is bolstered by the solid delivery of the lines by the actors (even if the words didn’t quite match the characters’ lips). Moreover, the musical score successfully communicates the intensity of the battles and the mystery of the world.

The combat system in Infinite Undiscovery is unique and interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed the mechanic, but, at the same time, I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that others were put off by it. That’s because the scheme tries to tackle not only individual combat actions, but also dual, connected attacks and full party control in real-time. It can be a bit overwhelming at first and remains a bit cumbersome throughout.

August 7, 2008 - The folks at Microsoft have made a huge push to usurp Sony's title as console king of the RPG. Games like Lost Odyssey, Star Ocean: The Last Hope, and Final Fantasy XIII have and will make the console a comfortable home indeed for fans of JRPGs. Furthermore, the list doesn't end there. Infinite Undiscovery, from famed developers Tri-Ace, will release for the system on September 2, 2008. This new IP will infuse a lavishly detailed world with a real-time combat mechanic. The mix of a decidedly Japanese-style storyline with a more modern action RPG approach looks to attract alternative gamers into the Microsoft fold.

Infinite Undiscovery is both a story and action-heavy game. Consequently, the game is full of classic JRPG conventions but should also appeal to less patient gamers. We had a chance to see the game in action at E3 2008, and it's safe to say the game shined. The story centers on the moon and the powerful gifts it bestows upon the people of the planet. Accordingly, nearly everyone has some kind of power from the moon except for a few unfortunate souls known as the Unblessed. The story in Infinite Undiscovery follows a young hero named Capell, who looks identical to the world's prophesied savior, Sigmund. Obviously, the story in Infinite Undiscovery is very involved. Additionally, loads of exquisite CG and in-engine cutscenes will help to fuel the players' imaginations. The graphics in the game are very solid. Combat looks intense and beautiful. The only issue we found was minor clipping when certain powers were unleashed or there was generally too much action on-screen. However, they've had a couple of months to get the polish right before release. Thankfully, both character and enemy design is top notch. The overall look of the title should prove to be very engaging for fans of the genre.

To top it all off, the real-time battle mechanic will keep the game flowing from beginning to end. Combat allows players to take advantage of a party made up of members with various blessings. The control scheme is developed in such a way that issuing commands to both individual and paired party members can be done almost instantly. This system of order issuing is known as 'Connect Actions.' These actions will give your party A.I. a general course of action to be taken during fights and allows the player to concentrate on their own tactics. The end result is fast-paced action that is highly stylized with brilliant spell effects and lethal melee animations.

As far as level design, we don't have much information to share other than that of the over world. The demonstration we were given set us off to do battle in a large desert-like environment. The party was able to travel all over the map in search of nasty beasties. It looks like Infinite Undiscovery will have players investigate large, open world maps in order to find more linear dungeon levels to progress the storyline.

Interestingly, Infinite Undiscovery will make use of a difficulty system that rewards players for challenging themselves. The way this is done is via additional content. In order to see everything the game has to offer, players will have to grind it out on the hardest setting. This is an intriguing feature that harkens back to the hardcore bent of days gone by.

Infinite Undiscovery will undoubtedly be a big hit with JRPG fans who have already embraced the Xbox 360. We're not sure if it has the power to win over converts by itself, but with the upcoming stellar line-up of similar titles on the horizon, it seems fans that don't yield to the 360's charms may be missing out on a lot of great experiences.

What’s included in the installer

The Docker Desktop installation includes Docker Engine,Docker CLI client, Docker Compose,Notary,Kubernetes,and Credential Helper.

Containers and images created with Docker Desktop are shared between alluser accounts on machines where it is installed. This is because all Windowsaccounts use the same VM to build and run containers. Note that it is not possible to share containers and images between user accounts when using the Docker Desktop WSL 2 backend.

Nested virtualization scenarios, such as running Docker Desktop on aVMWare or Parallels instance might work, but there are no guarantees. Formore information, see Running Docker Desktop in nested virtualization scenarios.

Install Docker Desktop on Windows

Double-click Docker Desktop Installer.exe to run the installer.

If you haven’t already downloaded the installer (Docker Desktop Installer.exe), you can get it from Docker Hub. It typically downloads to your Downloads folder, or you can run it from the recent downloads bar at the bottom of your web browser.

When prompted, ensure the Enable Hyper-V Windows Features or the Install required Windows components for WSL 2 option is selected on the Configuration page.

Follow the instructions on the installation wizard to authorize the installer and proceed with the install.

When the installation is successful, click Close to complete the installation process.

If your admin account is different to your user account, you must add the user to the docker-users group. Run Computer Management as an administrator and navigate to Local Users and Groups > Groups > docker-users. Right-click to add the user to the group.Log out and log back in for the changes to take effect.

Start Docker Desktop

Docker Desktop does not start automatically after installation. To start Docker Desktop, search for Docker, and select Docker Desktop in the search results.

When the whale icon in the status bar stays steady, Docker Desktop is up-and-running, and is accessible from any terminal window.

If the whale icon is hidden in the Notifications area, click the up arrow on thetaskbar to show it. To learn more, see Docker Settings.

When the initialization is complete, Docker Desktop launches the onboarding tutorial. The tutorial includes a simple exercise to build an example Docker image, run it as a container, push and save the image to Docker Hub.

Congratulations! You are now successfully running Docker Desktop on Windows.

If you would like to rerun the tutorial, go to the Docker Desktop menu and select Learn.

Automatic updates

Starting with Docker Desktop 3.0.0, updates to Docker Desktop will be available automatically as delta updates from the previous version.

When an update is available, Docker Desktop automatically downloads it to your machine and displays an icon to indicate the availability of a newer version. All you need to do now is to click Update and restart from the Docker menu. This installs the latest update and restarts Docker Desktop for the changes to take effect.

Uninstall Docker Desktop

To uninstall Docker Desktop from your Windows machine:

From the Windows Start menu, select Settings > Apps > Apps & features.

Select Docker Desktop from the Apps & features list and then select Uninstall.

Click Uninstall to confirm your selection.

Important

Uninstalling Docker Desktop destroys Docker containers, images, volumes, andother Docker related data local to the machine, and removes the files generatedby the application. Refer to the back up and restore datasection to learn how to preserve important data before uninstalling.

Troubleshooting

If Flashpoint does not work after installation, follow the steps below:

Click the Apple menu and open System Preferences.

Click 'Security & Privacy,' then click the 'Privacy' tab.

Click 'Full Disk Access'.

Click the lock icon and enter your password to make changes. Then click the + button under the list of apps to add Terminal to the list.

Click the lock icon again to save your changes. You should see Terminal in the list of allowed apps, as shown below.

Flash EOL Screen

If you see the Flash Player EOL information screen when you try to play a game, that means that SeaMonkey is loading your installed Flash Player plugin instead of the plugin that is bundled with Flashpoint. To fix the problem, uninstall Flash Player from your Mac and restart Flashpoint. Games should work again in SeaMonkey.

MacOS Catalina and Big Sur

Because Flashpoint's applications are from an 'unidentified developer,' if you're using Catalina or Big Sur, you'll need to approve each application before it can run. Open your system preferences, click 'Security & Privacy', then allow each of the following applications to run: StartFlashpoint.command, Flashpoint Launcher, swfbbox, and SeaMonkey. If you have trouble figuring out how to do this, watch this tutorial video.

Because Adobe Director Projectors are 32-bit applications, SPR for Mac will not work on MacOS Catalina or Big Sur. This means that Flashpoint for Mac does not support Shockwave games on Catalina or Big Sur.

MacOS Big Sur (MacOS 11.0)

Flash applications have been successfully tested and are working. To use Flashpoint with Big Sur, a few modifications are required. Follow the steps below:

Find the folder called plugins and copy it.

Find the new 'SeaMonkey.app' file that you downloaded by searching in Finder under 'This Mac'.

Right-click the new 'SeaMonkey.app' and click 'Show Package Contents.'

Open the Contents folder, then within that folder, open the Resources folder.

Paste in the plugins folder that you copied earlier.

Go back outside of the new 'SeaMonkey.app' package and copy it.

Open Flashpoint Infinity's FPSoftware folder, then paste the 'SeaMonkey.app' file that you just copied. Replace the original file when prompted.

Apple Silicon Macs

To run Flashpoint on Macs with the new M1 chip, you'll need to install Rosetta by following these instructions. Once you've done that, follow the instructions in the previous sections to get Flashpoint working.

Installing Java

To add support for Java games, you'll need to install the Java Development Kit. Follow the steps below:

Open the DMG file and run the installer. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the JDK.

Installing Wine

Running games in Wine is not yet supported, but we hope to add support for this in a future build. If you'd like to contribute to our efforts, you can download an installer here.

Using Flashpoint with Automator (optional)

You can start Flashpoint without having to click on StartFlashpoint.command by using Automator using the below steps:

Choose File > New.

Select 'Application', then click Choose.

Drag the Run Shell Script action into your workflow.

Enter open /Users/[YOUR USERNAME HERE]/Downloads/Flashpoint Infinity for Mac Beta/StartFlashpoint.command in the command field.

Technologies

Currently, only Flashpoint Infinity is available for Mac. However, as explained here, both PHP and Apache are included with MacOS. This means it should be fairly simple to create a Flashpoint Ultimate package for MacOS as well. Let us know in our Discord if you can help!

No equivalent to the Flashpoint Redirector currently exists for MacOS. MacOS also does not provide any native way to set per-application proxy settings. In Flashpoint for Mac, the proxy settings for each supported technology must be set separately. This rules out using the Flash projectors, since they do not have configurable proxy settings. In Flashpoint for Mac, all Flash games run in a browser.

The Flashpoint FAQ contains a list of all web game technologies ('Platforms') supported in the Windows version of Flashpoint. The Mac version currently supports a small subset of these platforms. Flash: Supported using the SeaMonkey web browser, with a Flash plugin included. Games that use a Flash Player version other than 32 are not yet supported.

Shockwave: Supported with SPR for Mac. Because LeechProtectionRemovalHelp is only available for Windows, the majority of Shockwave games will not work properly.

Requires a 32-bit compatible OS; Catalina is not supported.

Unsupported Platforms

Unity Web Player: Has not been attempted yet. We would need to track down the Mac builds of all 12 versions of Unity Web Player that we support on Windows. Needless to say, this would be a huge challenge.

PopCap Plugin: As far as we know, there is no version of PopCap Plugin for modern Macs.

Authorware Web Player: Authorware is incompatible with all Intel Macs.

GoBit Plugin: As far as we know, there is no version of GoBit Games Plugin for modern Macs.

Silverlight: Silverlight for Mac is available here, but as explained in this StackExchange answer, Microsoft Silverlight for Mac is 32-bit only, even though the Windows version has 64-bit and 32-bit versions. This is a problem because no major browser for MacOS has a 32-bit version, and MacOS Catalina drops support for 32-bit programs entirely. As such, Silverlight is unusable on Mac.

3DVIA Player: As far as we know, there is no version of 3DVIA Player for modern Macs.

3D Groove GX: 3D Groove is incompatible with all Intel Macs.

ActiveX: ActiveX is a Windows-only technology.

ShiVa3D: The Windows version of the ShiVa3D Player is available in the free ShiVa Web Edition; this is where we obtained it. However, no Mac version of the ShiVa Web Edition is currently available, so we haven't been able to find a Mac version of the ShiVa3D Player. It's possible that we could extract a Mac version of the player from a Mac version of a ShiVa3D game. Or maybe we could obtain the Mac runtime from the Windows version of ShiVa3D Web Edition, since it has the capability of publishing for Mac.

Launcher Issues

A number of Flashpoint Launcher issues affect the experience of using Flashpoint Launcher on MacOS. Unfortunately, none of our Launcher developers currently have access to a Mac, so updates for the Mac version of Flashpoint Launcher will not be available in the foreseeable future. We will be unable to release a Mac version of Flashpoint 7.0 until a new version of the Launcher is built for MacOS. If you have access to MacOS and are able to build Flashpoint Launcher, please let us know!

The current issues with the Mac version of Flashpoint Launcher are listed below.

Errors are shown in the log when services are missing from the services.json. These services are unnecessary for Flashpoint on Mac, so the errors can be ignored.

Flashpoint Launcher cannot find its own Version file, even if it is present in the Launcher's folder and app package.

The Theme dropdown menu on the Config tab does not work properly. To select a theme, you must manually type the path to the theme's CSS file.

A popup appears if the user attempts to start a Windows executable from Flashpoint. This popup tells the user to install Wine, and points them to the Linux Support page, even though the Launcher is running on Mac.

If a shell script is specified in execs.json as an alternative to a batch script, the Launcher will attempt to launch the shell script defined for Linux, even if a different shell script is defined for Darwin (MacOS).

Flashpoint Launcher attempts to load the hidden resource forks of certain files as separate files. These files are not visible in the MacOS Finder, and have filenames beginning with ._.

If any Platform XML has a resource fork, all of the Platform XMLs will fail to load, causing a 'No games found' error.

If any localization JSON file has a resource fork, a 'NotValidJSON' error will appear in the logs.

When Wine is started from Flashpoint Launcher, it uses >70% CPU for several minutes without ever starting the intended executable. This is despite Wine working fine when started from the terminal. This issue needs to be investigated and solved before Flashpoint can support launching games through Wine.

By default, Flashpoint Launcher will attempt to read and modify config.json and preferences.json inside its own app package. Since Mac applications are not allowed to modify their own app packages, this will fail. For this reason, Flashpoint Launcher must be opened with a shell script command StartFlashpoint.command. This script sets the current directory to the Flashpoint Launcher folder so that the Launcher accesses the config.json and preferences.json in the correct location. However, this unusual way of opening the Launcher may be the cause of the previously mentioned Wine bug.

Other Notes

Some keyboard controls such as the spacebar or WASD keys may not work in some games. This is a known problem with the NPAPI Flash plugin on MacOS. We plan to resolve this problem in the next build of Flashpoint for Mac by using the PPAPI plugin instead.

Flash games with URLs pointing to filenames with special characters will not work. This is because nosamuEmbedSWF.sh does not properly handle special characters when it converts URLs to paths, so it cannot copy the game's HTML to the correct location in htdocs.

Some Shockwave games may not close when you quit them from the menu. If this occurs, click inside the Message Window next to the game. Then type quit and press Enter to close the game.

Flashpoint for Mac uses exec mappings to determine what native executable to run based on the specified Windows application path. For example, flashplayer_32_sa.exe is mapped to nosamuEmbedSWF.sh for MacOS. To add more exec mappings, navigate to Flashpoint's Data folder and open execs.json in a text editor. The exec mappings use 'darwin' to refer to MacOS.

Flashpoint for Mac uses swfbbox to determine the width and height of an SWF file. swfbbox is part of the swftools homebrew package. To install swftools, first install homebrew. Then type brew install swftools in the terminal.

Flashpoint for Mac requires that PHP and cURL are enabled on your system. These components should be enabled by default.

Packaging Flashpoint for Mac

Here are some steps to keep in mind when packaging Flashpoint for Mac. This assumes that you are using the current package as a base and modifying it.

You can follow these instructions to update Flashpoint's XMLs to the latest version.

You can follow these instructions to update Flashpoint Router to the latest version.

Use update-spr.sh in the FPSoftware folder to update SPR to the latest version. To get the latest version of SPR for Mac, see SPR for Mac.

If you would like to distribute a modified SeaMonkey profile, be sure to clear the cache, cookies, and other data. In SeaMonkey, click Tools -> Clear Private Data.

If you would like to add a plugin to SeaMonkey, first install the plugin normally. Then, follow these steps:

Navigate to /Library/Internet Plug-Ins in Finder and copy the files for the plugin you want to add.

Navigate to Flashpoint's FPSoftware folder. Right-click SeaMonkey.app and choose 'Show Package Contents.'

Inside the app package, navigate to /Contents/Resources/plugins. Paste the plugin files that you copied in Step 1.

Before running or distributing Flashpoint, you should run the dot_clean command inside the Flashpoint folder to remove resource forks. Flashpoint Launcher may not work properly if Flashpoint files have resource forks, as explained in Launcher Issues.

If you use it to talk to your friends, pick up the immensely more popular and enjoyable WhatsApp. If you use Hangouts at work, the likelihood you pick up Google Chat is dependent on your dissatisfaction with your company’s current chat software rather than your satisfaction with Classic Hangouts. Last year Spotify brought a redesigned UI to its iOS and Android app home screens. Building on that design, today Spotify announced new features including a section highlighting, personalized recommendations, “Recently Played,” and new and unfinished podcasts.

Spotify detailed the latest redesign to its iOS and Android home screens in a blog post today.

Through this latest update, we’ll be rolling out several advancements on the mobile Home hub designed to make finding the audio you love easier and more intuitive. These will roll out to users globally on iOS and Android this month.

For Mac user, here we recommend a nice Spotify Ads Blocker to block ads on your MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and even iMac. The name is Spotifree, which is a free app for blocking ads across all the Mac system. If you have no desire to get a separate Mac desktop computer, but want to either supersize your laptop's screen for gaming or need to get additional screen real estate while you work, then connecting your MacBook, MacBook Air, or MacBook Pro to an external display is the right call. Spotify users can share individual songs, entire playlists, and even specific artists with any of their friends and followers on Facebook, Twitter, Telegram, Skype, Tumblr, or any other app you. On your Mac or PC, open the Spotify app and click the queue button, which is at the bottom-right corner and looks like a small arrow set on top of three horizontal lines. It's next to the volume.

Here are the three new changes heading for the Spotify home screen:

Travel back in time: Rediscover lost gems in your listening history with a new “Recently played” destination, where users can jump back in time and browse up to three months’ worth of listening history. Premium and Free users globally will be able to browse recently played individual tracks and episodes in addition to the playlists, albums, and shows they were played from.

Jump into new and unfinished podcasts: Global Premium users can view new and relevant podcast episodes right within the Home hub. New episodes will be marked with a blue dot, and episodes you’ve already started will display a progress bar indicating how far into the episode you are.

Discover more music: Premium users globally won’t miss a single track from artists they love. Now, you will see a new surface highlighted on top of the Home hub dedicated to discovery-oriented recommendations that are personalized, timely, and reactive to your taste.

Spotify didn’t share exactly when the new home screen design would be arriving to users. But since we’re closing in on April, all users around the world should see the changes this week or next.

This is likely a server-side change but it’s good to stay up to date with the iOS/Android app. The latest build iOS – 8.6.10 was released on March 19 (March 17 for Android).

To view a user’s list of currently connected devices, make a request to the /v1/me/player/devices endpoint.

The devices in the list are the ones that you can control.

Note: To determine if you should send controlling commands to a certain device, check the is_restricted flag on a device object. If you receive the 403 FORBIDDEN code back, this means that the currently active device (or targeted device) is not controllable through the Web API.

There may be occasions when you see a device in the /v1/me/player and /v1/me/player/currently-playing endpoints that you do not see in /v1/me/player/devices. This can happen while playback takes place on a restricted device.

Devices not Appearing on Device List

Connect Web API relies on local network connections to discover and interact with some devices.

For example, when:

A new device is added to the network

A device is in “sleep” mode

A device on the local network is currently tied to another user account, or

Other reasons specific to the device

As a result, some devices that appear in the Connect picker within the Spotify application may not always be visible or available on the Connect Web API Endpoints.

Targeting a Specific Device

All the Connect Web API command endpoints include the device_id parameter in the called URL. This can be used to control a specific device. If you do not specify a device_id, the currently active one (see 'is_active': true in the device list response) will be targeted.

For example, to set the volume on a specific device, run:

Note: A Device ID is unique and persistent to some extent (and for some clients). However, this is not guaranteed and any cached device_id should periodically be cleared out and re-fetched as necessary.

The order of command execution is not guaranteed. The commands are mostly operated on by the devices in the order you call them via the Connect Web API.

For example, a command to transfer playback to a specific device followed directly by a volume command could, in theory, raise the volume of the currently active device before the hand-over to the new device happens. You can circumvent some of these issues by targeting the commands (such as setting the volume) towards specific devices with the optional device_id parameter available on all endpoints.

These advanced steps are primarily for system administrators and others who are familiar with the command line. You don't need a bootable installer to upgrade macOS or reinstall macOS, but it can be useful when you want to install on multiple computers without downloading the installer each time.

What you need to create a bootable installer

A USB flash drive or other secondary volume formatted as Mac OS Extended, with at least 14GB of available storage

A downloaded installer for macOS Big Sur, Catalina, Mojave, High Sierra, or El Capitan

Download macOS

Download: macOS Big Sur, macOS Catalina, macOS Mojave, or macOS High Sierra These download to your Applications folder as an app named Install macOS [version name]. If the installer opens after downloading, quit it without continuing installation. To get the correct installer, download from a Mac that is using macOS Sierra 10.12.5 or later, or El Capitan 10.11.6. Enterprise administrators, please download from Apple, not a locally hosted software-update server.

Download: OS X El Capitan This downloads as a disk image named InstallMacOSX.dmg. On a Mac that is compatible with El Capitan, open the disk image and run the installer within, named InstallMacOSX.pkg. It installs an app named Install OS X El Capitan into your Applications folder. You will create the bootable installer from this app, not from the disk image or .pkg installer.

Use the 'createinstallmedia' command in Terminal

Connect the USB flash drive or other volume that you're using for the bootable installer.

Open Terminal, which is in the Utilities folder of your Applications folder.

Type or paste one of the following commands in Terminal. These assume that the installer is in your Applications folder, and MyVolume is the name of the USB flash drive or other volume you're using. If it has a different name, replace MyVolume in these commands with the name of your volume.

Big Sur:*

Catalina:*

Mojave:*

High Sierra:*

El Capitan:

* If your Mac is using macOS Sierra or earlier, include the --applicationpath argument and installer path, similar to the way this is done in the command for El Capitan.

After typing the command:

Press Return to enter the command.

When prompted, type your administrator password and press Return again. Terminal doesn't show any characters as you type your password.

When prompted, type Y to confirm that you want to erase the volume, then press Return. Terminal shows the progress as the volume is erased.

After the volume is erased, you may see an alert that Terminal would like to access files on a removable volume. Click OK to allow the copy to proceed.

When Terminal says that it's done, the volume will have the same name as the installer you downloaded, such as Install macOS Big Sur. You can now quit Terminal and eject the volume.

Use the bootable installer

Determine whether you're using a Mac with Apple silicon, then follow the appropriate steps:

Plug the bootable installer into a Mac that is connected to the internet and compatible with the version of macOS you're installing.

Turn on your Mac and continue to hold the power button until you see the startup options window, which shows your bootable volumes and a gear icon labled Options.

Select the volume containing the bootable installer, then click Continue.

When the macOS installer opens, follow the onscreen instructions.

Intel processor

Plug the bootable installer into a Mac that is connected to the internet and compatible with the version of macOS you're installing.

Press and hold the Option (Alt) ⌥ key immediately after turning on or restarting your Mac.

Release the Option key when you see a dark screen showing your bootable volumes.

Select the volume containing the bootable installer. Then click the up arrow or press Return. If you can't start up from the bootable installer, make sure that the External Boot setting in Startup Security Utility is set to allow booting from external media.

Choose your language, if prompted.

Select Install macOS (or Install OS X) from the Utilities window, then click Continue and follow the onscreen instructions.

Other glibc based Linux containers may work if they have needed prerequisites.

While ARMv7l (AArch32), ARMv8l (AArch64), and musl based Alpine Linux support is available, some extensions installed on these devices may not work due to the use of glibc or x86 compiled native code in the extension. See the Remote Development with Linux article for details.

Note that while the Docker CLI is required, the Docker daemon/service does not need to be running locally if you are using a remote Docker host.

Installation

To get started, follow these steps:

Install VS Code or VS Code Insiders and this extension.

Install and configure Docker for your operating system.

Windows / macOS:

Install Docker Desktop for Mac/Windows.

If not using WSL2 on Windows, right-click on the Docker task bar item, select Settings / Preferences and update Resources > File Sharing with any locations your source code is kept. See tips and tricks for troubleshooting.

To enable the Windows WSL2 back-end: Right-click on the Docker taskbar item and select Settings. Check Use the WSL2 based engine and verify your distribution is enabled under Resources > WSL Integration.

Linux:

Follow the official install instructions for Docker CE/EE. If you use Docker Compose, follow the Docker Compose install directions.

Add your user to the docker group by using a terminal to run: sudo usermod -aG docker $USER Sign out and back in again so this setting takes effect.
