Chapter 128 notes
Lots of feel good vibes in the latest chapter. I’ll go back to that later.
First, the heavy stuff.
The Dominus crashes and next to it, is Drac’s transport plane. Lightning and the knights interrogate him and he’s super pleased that Yukio is nearby.
Why? Well, he has Satan’s vessel the wreck and wants Satan to see it. Satan will make the connection through Yukio’s eyes. (Which happens right at the end of chapter)
This possible Satan vessel is an Azazel clone. He finally breaks out of the plane wreckage and walks out like a naked T-800 terminator. He looks like just Shiro, only...what a unit.
He has the blank stare of a dude that’s damn near a zombie. It’ll be interesting to see if his clone has a personality at all. If he does, he might be difficult to possess. But if he’s been in a glass tube his entire life, he might be like a big toddler. Time will tell.
The only people that have memories about the cloning in section 13 are Drac and Mephisto. Rin experienced it with his trip to the past and Lightning and Bon researched it. But for the rest of our favourite characters this is going to be a bit of a shock to deal with. Especially for Yukio and Shura. Yukio did get a glance at Lightning’s file, so he maybe has a bit of an inkling. But one person has been kept in the dark. That person is Shura. How would she react to seeing a Shiro clone walking around?
Maybe it’s great that Mephisto has Shura hidden away from the action. Because this might be hella confusing for her. A) Shiro is dead B) Shura was pissed at him when he died, C) she loved the guy and it completely messed her up. Ouch!
I can see a super awkward dynamic happening in the future.
Part of me wonders about Shiro. This is crack theory land of course. But if Mephisto is the King of Time and kin of death, does he have the power to save a soul? Shiro’s character is an ongoing Mcguffin throughout the entire manga. Literally…we could rename it “the Legend of Shiro.”
Does he ever come back?
Mephisto has a clone hiding in a lab too somewhere. Neuhaus stole it after the blue night. Is that another Shiro lookalike? Would it be Shiro himself? Would he come back to battle Satan? Is he like the T1000?
Moving On.
We some relationship dynamics change.
Sugaro and Kamiki seem to be getting closer all the time. Sorry, Shima but I think you’re out of luck. As a matter of fact I think they both socked him in the face.
Yukio finally realizes he needs to forgive himself, that he’s created his own hell. Yukio understands that he needs to change his behaviour and acknowledge his feelings in order to heal. (He openly cries! Progress!)
Suguro now refuses to call him Mr. Okumura. Which is an interesting change in power dynamics. He’s giving a Yukio a pass on his violent streak in chapter 94. But he’s also lowering Yukio to his level. Yukio isn’t above them anymore, he’s equal to his students. But not only that, they are accepting him as he is…Yukio doesn’t need to pretend to be an adult anymore. He can be 15…he can have friends. Suguro knocks him down a few pegs, but at the same time supports him.
Rin is pretty much back to his adorable, loving self. He isn’t scarred by what he saw in the past. He’s just glad to be home and with his friends again. He’s just happy to have Yukio back.

The amount of people who don’t understand the difference between what a character wants and what they need by the end of a story/character arc is exhausting.
Characters rarely start off wanting what they need. Not getting what they wanted in the beginning but fulfilling (or, in tragedy, failing to fulfill) some important need is literally one of the oldest tropes in history.
