@hubertduckk· location: liv’s home
Liv was nervous. She had never really invited anyone over to where she was living before, especially not a boy. She was so paranoid the wrong people were going to spot them and that they would get hurt but Basil had reassured her that the security was up to date and that she could watch safely from inside the home before then. So she tried to use that as a moment to calm her nerves somewhat as she got ready for Huey to come over. She tried to dress cute, but her hands were shaking so much she could hardly braid her hair so she just had to settle with it out. She ordered a pizza, she cleaned her room and the entire place like ten times beforehand and now all she had to do was watch the cameras and wait. Her heart was pounding the entire time and when she spotted Huey she made quick to the door.
“Hi…come in umm quickly please…” she said as polite as she could before grabbing his hand and pulling him in. She triple locked the door and took a deep breath before finally looking back at Huey. “Hi…again,” she said softly, a lot shyer now. “This is…This is it. My home.”
Tumblr media
Huey had been honored that Liv decided to invite him over to her house for a change. She seemed quite reluctant when she’d asked him, but he’d of course accepted happily. He knew that a vast majority of the world didn’t live in a house like the McDuck mansion: they were the lucky ones. It didn’t matter to him where she came from or where she was living; all he wanted to do was hang out with her, no matter where it was.
He showed up with flowers for her, ready to hand them to her and give her a hug when he was abruptly pulled inside. A little confused, Huey held out the bouquet in front of him with a smile. “These are for you. For the house,” he said, pulling her into a quick hug. “I, um ... I see. Very big with the security; I’m glad you’re staying safe.”

Dewey laughed at Huey’s comment, shaking his head. “I definitely meant board games. Tinsley kicks my ass at video games on a daily basis,” Dewey admitted sheepishly. “I even had to ask her friend for some gamer tips. My skills are getting better, but I still have a long way to go. Anyway, I was thinking more like charades or even like, Cards Against Humanity or something stupidly entertaining like that.”
“You asked one of Tinsley’s gamer friends for help?” Huey asked, letting out a chuckle. “Not Randy, right?” he teased. It was a good idea, but he wasn’t even sure Liv and Tinsley would get along. Tinsley was much more outgoing than Olivia, and he was afraid that Liv would simply feel lost in the loudness of the other three. It was worth a shot, though; he wanted to be able to introduce her to his brother and his girlfriend. “Yeah, that’s a good idea. Something that Tinsley can’t have an advantage in. Games of luck only. I’m not sure Liv would know what some of the shit on those cards mean, though; she’s a little shy and sheltered.”

This wasn’t the way Finn imagined he would confess his feelings towards Huey. There wasn’t any way he imagined confessing because he had no intentions of ever doing so. Then again, he was never secretive about his growing feelings either, he only tried to minimize them for the sake of not wanting to make his friend uncomfortable by having to deal with them. And now with his feelings out in the open between them, Finn still wasn’t expecting Huey to do anything about them. He just said them because he wanted to be honest, but hearing Huey apologize again, the older shook his head at him. “Led me on? You did none of that.” Finn emphasized, frowning at the way Huey felt like he had to blame himself for this. “ You h-have been honest with me. And that’s what makes this harder because I s-should’ve stopped myself from feeling this way when you’ve always been honest about how you felt.” But he agreed that maybe he should’ve been honest himself. Maybe if Finn had been sooner, none of this would be confusing or conflicting for Huey, and he didn’t want him feeling that way. Just because everything was out in the open like this didn’t mean he was to blame for liking someone else more. “You should like w-whoever you want to like. Don’t feel guilty for liking Liv. I didn’t tell you how I feel because I’m expecting you to suddenly c-change your mind and choose me instead. I don’t want that and I don’t want y-you to force your feelings. What I want is you to be happy and for you not to worry about my feelings.”·
Tumblr media
Huey let out a deep, defeated sigh as he held his head in his hands, stabling himself for a moment. He never imagined having to turn anyone down, certainly not one of his best friends. As much as Finn told him not to worry, not to feel bad, it made Huey feel worse. How was he supposed to continue as friends with Finn when the only thing he would ever be thinking about would be how painful this moment of rejection was? Huey was horrible at saying no, clearly, and if that’s what Finn wanted, though, that’s what they’d do: stay friends. “I can’t be happy and not worry about your feelings at the same time,” he said frustratedly, finally lifting his head. “All I ever want is for you to be happy, too, and I ... can’t give you that. I want to be able to, I do, but I don’t know how to.” Huey felt defeated, and what made it worse was that he could tell that Finn was, too. They were just two people afraid of hurting each other, and they were hurting themselves in the process.

darladavis:
His willingness to listen and let her lean on him in a time of emotional distress was all that she needed to release everything that had been pent up for the past couple of years. Darla finally had a chance to explain everything to Huey, from how she’d first met Nico and started their relationship, to how things had gone sour, to where they stood present day. So that was just what she did, every important detail.
“Well, it all started when we met. We fell in love, started dating, and everything was fine for a while, but I started getting worried about him talking to other girls. I tried to make things work, just keeping tabs on where he was, who he was with, who was texting him—but he broke up with me! I knew we could fix things if he would just talk to me, so I kept trying, and that’s where the restraining order comes in…See, I was waiting for him outside his house one day when I realized he’d left the door unlocked for me, so I went inside to wait in his room, thinking we were finally going to get back together. But then he comes home and freaks out, as if he wasn’t expecting me to be there. Even now, he still insists that he wants nothing to do with me, even though I know that’s not right…”
Huey nodded his head slowly as he listened to his friend speak. It seemed like what Darla had painted in her head as the picture of her relationship with Nico did not match what her ex did, to put it lightly. He could see how some of her behavior could be considered a bit concerning, from keeping tabs to entering his house while he wasn’t home. What he could also see, though, was that Darla’s intentions weren’t malicious, just ... misguided.
“Maybe some time apart is good for the both of you,” he said with a smile. Huey at least knew this was true for Nico. He could see how Darla was hurting, but she needed to see what a healthy relationship looked like before even attempting to get into a new one, or the same one with her ex. “I know you didn’t mean any harm, but sometimes people do get freaked out when they see someone they weren’t expecting in their room, you know? I would expect you to freak out if I just showed up in your room unannounced one day.”

closed starter for @tinsleytm
Huey had grown fond of Dewey’s girlfriend during their few months together. Sometimes, when his brother wasn’t home, Tinsley would simply stick around and hang out with him while she waited for Dewey to show up. He appreciated her friendship: she was honest, confident, and outgoing, all things that Huey couldn’t say he was. “So, there’s this girl I’m seeing, and Dewey suggested we all hang out one time, the four of us. I know that’s leaving Louie and Leena out, but she’s pretty shy, and I feel like four new people at once might be a lot, you know?” He looked nervously toward her, setting his game controller in his lap after she had swiftly kicked his ass. “What do you think? Is that, like, a good next step? I like her a lot, but we’ve been taking things pretty slow.”

“Well, it’s a pleasure to formally make your acquaintance,” Mo said with a smile starting to grow on her face. “I understand that… My friends Kim and Ron would be my equivalent, I always feel like I’m making sure they’re not getting into too much trouble.” She knew they could take care of themselves but her motherly instinct always seemed to kick in when Kim and Ron needed her to help get them out of a mess. “It’s true, growing up makes you feel like you live in a box. I’m editing a podcast I host, actually. It’s basically my baby and if I’m not working I’m usually doing something for it.”
Tumblr media
“You host a podcast?” Huey repeated, genuinely impressed. His life seemed quite boring compared to most of the people he met around town. They were all doing creative, fun things, and here he was, working at a bait and tackle shop. “What is the podcast about? I don’t listen to many podcasts, to be honest, but I feel like I should give it a try. Maybe I should listen to some about relaxation or something while I’m at work. My boss can be a bit stressful sometimes.”

“Too nice?” Dewey repeated, eyebrows narrowed. He didn’t think he was too nice, but maybe he just saw things differently than his older brother did. “Well, you’re still doing a good job, so just keep doing what you do best,” Dewey replied, giving Huey a brotherly pat on the back. “Things are good, and hopefully they stay that way,” he replied, sticking his hands in his pockets. “Yeah, dude, maybe we all need to hang out here at some point. We could have like, a game night or something!”
“Game night, with your pretty much professional video game player girlfriend? Yeah, that’s a no from me,” he said with a laugh. “If you’re talking board games, sure. Maybe then the rest of us have a fighting chance. Do you even come close to beating her when you guys play together?” It was honestly impressive, how good of a gamer Tinsley was. Not that he’d ever admit it, but Huey had spent time watching some of her streams just to see how good his brother’s girlfriend was, and he was fairly certain he’d never be able to beat her if given the chance.

Confused, Finn blinked before slowly nodding. “Okay— good thing the t-two didn’t interact at the ball then.” He replied, still unaware of what the full story between Darla and her ex was all about but seeing how negatively tensed things were between the two, he would agree with Huey about how she needed to move on. “You’re right. Ariel would’ve said we w-were going for sure if Darla hadn’t asked first.” He nodded once again, as no one else other than his best friend came to mind unless he had chosen to go with a blind date and that….. Finn hadn’t been sure about that. Then with a small smile on his face, the older exhaled deeply at Huey’s words. He was waiting for this to happen. For the other to rip the bandaid and try to let him down gently. “…..I know there wasn’t a choice t-to begin with, so don’t worry.” Finn reassured. “You also don’t need to apologize or f-feel bad either. You like Olivia, I’ve known that and……… if anything, I should be the o-one to apologize since—” With his smile turning a little pained, he shrugged. “I like you. A lot. But I know you only want to stay as f-friends, and I’ve accepted that……. So don’t feel bad. I’m sorry for how weird and different things within our friendship has been, I t-tried to keep all this to myself because I didn’t want you to think you h-had to respond to it. You didn’t. But….. distancing myself from you w-was the best way I can think of to solve everything.”·
Tumblr media
Huey wasn’t totally sure if he’d ever hear the words come out of his friend’s mouth, but there they were: spoken and out in the open. Finn liked him. It was kind of obvious, but it wasn’t something that he ever wanted to have to face like this: bluntly, to his face. He took a big breath, resorting to biting the inside of his cheeks to keep himself from saying something stupid in the middle of Finn’s admission. “You don’t have to apologize,” he blurted as he tried to keep himself from speaking. Why did Finn think he needed to say sorry for having a crush on him? If anything, Huey should’ve been the one sorry for choosing Olivia over him. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have led you on or anything, and I should’ve been honest. Maybe we both should’ve been, but I knew it was going to hurt,” he sighed, running his hand through his hair. “I don’t know what else to say besides that I’m sorry. You deserve ... everything in the world, and I’m sorry that I can’t give that to you, I guess,” Huey said weakly with a shrug.

At Huey’s words, the older found himself agreeing. Although Darla hasn’t disclosed everything involving her situation with her ex-boyfriend, Finn knew enough on how she still had feelings for him and if she could, she would be back together with him. But her ex had a different mindset on it, yet, Finn never pushed far enough to ask her why that is and just left it be. “Thinking about it now, I’m h-honestly surprised that she asked me to go with her when she probably would’ve wanted to ask him instead.” He commented out loud, still not considering on the fact that despite her feelings for her ex, Darla also started to have feelings for Finn as well. “Was sure I was going to need to a-ask someone else to the ball myself, or go alone.” Finn added, more so to himself than to Huey. And attending alone truly had been a huge possibility for him. The older of the two then let out a sigh, completely understanding what the other meant but it seemed like he didn’t catch on what he himself was trying to say. “D-Don’t get me wrong, if she had been excited to be at a ball, than I’m happy y-you two had a nice time and that you were the one who was able t-to take her there.” The silver haired male began to clarify “But— what I meant is that the ball isn’t what m-made her time there special. It’s the fact that she went with you that did, and even i-if you two couldn’t go, she probably wouldn’t have minded b-because what matters is that she’s spending time with you, Huey.”·
Tumblr media
Huey shook his head quickly at Finn’s comment. “Oh, no. Darla should not be allowed to go anywhere with Nico. She needs to get over him and try and move on.” He wasn’t sure how much Finn knew about the circumstances surrounding their friend and her ex, but it was clear to anyone who knew that the two needed to stay far, far away from each other. “Oh, I bet someone would’ve asked you instead. You don’t deserve to go anywhere alone,” he said quietly. Huey listened to Finn’s words, finding it hard to listen without feeling immense guilt. It was clear that Finn would’ve wanted to go with someone else, and it certainly wasn’t a blind date. “I see what you mean,” he said quietly. “Finn, I--listen. I don’t know if you’re trying to say something with that, but ... I just wanted to say I’m sorry. For ... everything. I’m sorry that I--I don’t want it to feel like I chose Liv over you, or anything like that. I don’t ever want to not be friends with you. It just feels so ... weird, and different, and I hate the way it feels.”

She stared at him for a moment before a slight memory of seeing him before crossed her brain. “Wait… You have brothers, right?” Mo said as it started to come back to her. “I remember you, I think. Honestly, I’m awful with remembering who I met where.” The girl nodded, quickly trying to pull her things out of the way for him to sit. “Please, go right ahead. I’m probably due for a break anyway so some company might be nice.”
Tumblr media
Huey smiled at his former classmate’s question. “Yup, that’s me. One of three. We’re the Ducks,” he confirmed, sliding into the seat across from her. “No, it’s okay. I’m pretty forgettable, my brothers are the loud ones. I try to clean up their messes. What have you been working on? I feel like I don’t know what anyone’s doing anymore now that we’ve all gone to college. It’s kind of sad, but we’re all just focused on ourselves now.”

Dewey groaned as he saw that Huey obviously found this amusing, rolling his eyes at the clearly fake cough he did. “That’s not actually what I said, Huey. It was more complicated than that.” Now that Dewey was thinking about it, though, maybe telling Candy to kick rocks would have been the easier, simpler route than the actual argument that they had. He shrugged his shoulders, knowing Huey was right. “Yeah, that’s what I keep thinking, too.” He huffed a sigh. “I don’t know how you do it, dude. It must be exhausting to always be right all the time.”
“You don’t think I know that? You’re too nice, that’s why.” With a sigh, Huey fixed his tie in the mirror, shrugging his shoulders at his brother. “Me neither, man. Being the oldest of this shit show is exhausting sometimes,” he teased. “Happier things ahead, though. Speaking of, how are things with Tinsley? I feel like I haven’t asked in a while. I want to maybe spend some time with her besides in a hospital room, if that’s not too much to ask. I mean, not to third wheel. Maybe you could meet Liv, too.”

slurred words
“Finn is ...” Huey started, feeling already liked he needed a sip of his beer. “I’m really glad to have Finn in my life, I really am. I just wish we could be friends again, before we kissed and everything sometimes. I feel like he doesn’t want it that way, and I feel horrible about it. I don’t know how to apologize for wanting to just be friends with someone. But, like, I really like Liv. I just feel like I let him down, and I hate that feeling. He really deserves to be happy and to find someone, but I don’t know if that person is me. I feel like he wants it to be, but I don’t know if I can be that for him.”

Slurred words - Dewey
Huey couldn’t help but smile goofily at the mention of his brother. “Dewey? I’m just so proud of him. He’s been through a lot this year, but he’s found this immense amount of happiness, and it’s really admirable. I can’t believe he had to fight someone for it, but he did. That showed just how much he cares about Tinsley, and how much he’s willing to fight for someone he cares about. I don’t doubt that he would do the same for me and Louie. I love him so much, and when he was in the hospital, I was so afraid he’d be seriously hurt. I’m really glad he’s not, because the Duck family wouldn’t be the same without our token middle Dewey.”

Monique was deep into editing her next podcast in a booth at the Bueno Nacho. She reached out to find her cup, taking a sip of her iced tea as her other hand continued to move across the keyboard. In her focus she almost didn’t see that someone was standing beside her table. The girl pulled the headphones from her head onto her neck and looked up from the screen. “Sorry about that, they weren’t kidding when they said noise cancelling.” Mo released a gentle laugh. “What was it you said?”
Tumblr media
It wasn’t like Huey to interrupt someone while they were working (he would’ve been ticked if someone had done that to him), but it was the lunch rush at Bueno Nacho, and he didn’t particularly feel like eating in the car. The girl was the only person he vaguely recognized from his grade in school, and decided she was nice enough to take a shot at sitting with. “Hey! Um, you’re Monique, right? You were in some of my classes at school, I think. I’m Huey. I just...there’s nowhere to sit, and I was hoping I could share the table with you?”

ncttaguppy·:
Finn hummed lightly to himself, the thought of how if Darla hadn’t asked him to the ball with her, he most likely would have gone to it alone. Actually, maybe not, because there was still the chance of Ariel convincing him to go with her instead, but that possibility wasn’t as likely since Finn wanted his best friend to go with Eric and he didn’t have many in mind he thought of asking himself. The only person he did think of asking was Huey, but Finn knew long before even bothering to do so that there was no point for him because he also knew that Huey would’ve wanted to ask Olivia to the ball. And he was right with that assumption, but then again, it wasn’t hard to think it. “She didn’t. And I think for once, she was more focused o-on me than to let him get to her, anyways.” Finn said, not trying to come off as narcissistic by saying that, but more going off on observation by how his and Darla’s night went. For the most part she seemed happy to have been there with him, excited about it at times even. “That’s nice to hear, and I’m sure it i-isn’t just because she went to a ball that made i-it special for her.” He commented while staring at Huey, leaving the implications of what he meant to be left by interpretation. “If he hadn’t l-let you guys go, you think the night would’ve been ruined? What i-if Olivia didn’t care about that, not having to go to the ball, I mean?”·
Tumblr media
Huey nodded his head slowly, feeling more grateful than anything that their friend wasn’t hung up on her ex for the entire night of the ball. He knew that Finn was probably the best person to keep Darla occupied for a whole night, if it wasn’t Huey himself. He was a bit shocked that Finn didn’t wind up going with Ariel instead, but, then again, he did mention that she was interested in someone else before, he thought. “Oh, that’s good. She needed a night without thinking about him,” he said simply. “I mean, I guess so,” Huey said with a small shrug. It seemed like Finn was trying to give him a compliment, but his head wasn’t in the space to accept it. He was sure that Liv was happy to be both with him and at the ball after a life of not getting such extravagance. “Do you mean that you think Liv would’ve been just as happy at home for the night? I’m sure we would’ve had a good time, anyway, it’s just that she’s never done anything like that before, and I’m glad I got to be the one to do it with her, you know?”
