he gives you nothing but the best relationship and comfort someone could ever provide for you. it’s precious, a solace in your darker days to know that your beloved is always mere moments away from being the safety that you need.

but he lies, keeps secrets he’ll take to his grave. you know him as a consultant for the wangsheng funeral parlour - he prefers to keep it that way. the reality of his existence is much more painful to bear, a heavy weight that drags on his ankles and makes his own shoulders too much to carry.

you’ll never know, he tells himself, there’s barely anyone left alive who knows themselves. he can trust that the rest of your mortal existence, you will forever just know him as zhongli - not rex lapis nor morax. he thinks there’s a beauty in you loving him for who he is as a person, not as an archon with blood on his hands.

but maybe for an archon, he trusts too easily? the fatui hiding out in northland bank, located at the heart of the harbour and that odd ginger harbinger who likes fighting way too much for his own good? or that specific auspicious blond traveler who helped his own country realise that they could cope with the absence of their archon?

he doesn’t remember telling anyone else his status, his ‘retired’ status as he keeps ushering to anyone who’ll hear him out. he figures he’s trying to escape the life he created for himself. after all, how much blood has been spilled at the end of his command? his hands? his weapon? so how come you stand before him in such anger?

screaming out your lungs so much that they’re starved for oxygen, taking no time to breathe in between curses of “was this all a façade?” and “you couldn’t tell one truth? is it another contract?”

and for some reason, the geo archon feels as if teyvat is collapsing and celestia is laughing. he watches the tears pour down your cheeks as you cry out in anger, betrayal that he kept such a thing from you. perhaps in a few days, weeks or months you’ll think over this day and realise why he did what he did.

or you’ll never speak to him again, glare turned cold whenever someone mentions rex lapis to you in a friendly conversation.

it’s one thing having a secret relationship with one of the fatui harbingers, it’s another thing when you stop writing letters to them. wherever they are - whether it’s in snezhnaya or stationed across teyvat, you have always wrote letters to them to keep in contact. they don’t quite understand when you stop writing. had something bad happened to you in light of their job? the thought makes them choke on air, nobody knew you were together so why would anyone target you?

but that’s when they get stationed in your country and a fight breaks out in their midst thanks to that annoying blond traveler that they can’t seem to get rid of. they’re so auspicious, evading death whenever they meet it face-to-face and it becomes increasingly more frustrating every time they’re reminded of the awful blond.

cold eyes fall to you, wielding a weapon with blood splattered on your angered expression. wait… what? you’re not fighting on their side, you’re covering the back of that pest, even though you knew exactly their thoughts on them. why?

it can only be boiled down to that vermin spewing lies into you, painting their beloved image red in your mind as you come to loathe them. you spite them and the memories that you cherished so dear to your heart.

if you are the enemy now, they have no choice but to cut you down the same as every other worthless soul who stands in their way.

ft. alhaitham x gn!reader

notes. as always these will be angst obviously bc this is my angst thoughts blog. maybe these will be made into fics over on my main @https-furina eventually.

alhaitham dating a reader who has a personality very matched to that of his roommate, kaveh. whilst there are always moments where we think kaveh and alhaitham get along, they clash an awful lot. picturing that reader gets tired of how alhaitham speaks sometimes, he’s blunt and sharp and it gets on their nerves because it feels as though he speaks down on them.

reader often sees how he argues with kaveh and they hate it, it bites at them and they see themselves in kaveh every time so when alhaitham and reader have their first argument, it stings and burns more than it perhaps should and alhaitham can’t wrap his head around why the reader reacted so drastically, it wasn’t that big of a deal. but one argument turns into many when the reader just slowly pulls apart every alhaitham does, especially when he’s critical of them.

soon even kaveh is concerned for the state of their relationship when he comes home to them arguing almost every night. he starts to sober up, making sure he’s in the right mindset to comfort the reader post-argument since he sees them as a younger sibling of sorts, a mini him.

one day alhaitham nitpicks one thing about the reader like he does kaveh and they can’t take it anymore, screaming at him while he sits there in disbelief before storming out.
