Great piece in the Huffing Post quoting both Alison Bagnall on “Funny Bunny” and Robert Machoian on “God Bless the Child” about things they learned while making these films.

Happy Birthday, Frank Lloyd Wright! One of the most influential architects in history, Wright no-doubtably had an impact on Hollywood. A famous example of Wright’s presence in cinema is Hitchcock’s NORTH BY NORTHWEST.
Hitchcock knew he wanted a Modernist house like one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s designs for one of the settings of NORTH BY NORTHWEST, but he couldn’t afford Wright’s fee.
So Hitchcock decided to build a house that looked like one Wright would have designed. Since the top of Mt. Rushmore was too fragile to build on, Hitchcock’s team built what came to be known as The Vandamm House off-site.
The exterior was a matte painting, a pre-digital effect when a real set or location was combined with a painting, and the interior was created on a soundstage. Certain shots would blend the sets together with special effects to create the illusion that the house was real.

Olly Alexander won Best Performance for a Male Actor in Funny Bunny, and our three fearless editors, Kentucker Audley, Caleb Johnson and David Barker shared a Best Editing Prize. Robert Machoian received a digital Bolex camera with his best cinematography award. Thanks, Bryce Renninger and the Brooklyn Film Festival!!! Maggie and Elisabeth, Production Day 1
So exciting after years of development to finally be on set with Maggie for A Woman, A Part. We’ve been developing this project for almost two years, and here we are in Los Angeles, our first day of production. We wrap LA on Sunday, and fly back on Monday to begin shooting in New York through June.
And, obviously we all know Maggie’s brilliant, but wait until you see this footage.

"The post-festival chasm between indie and studio filmmaking for female filmmakers -- and the sexism that maintains that wide gulf -- is documented in a new study from the Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film at San Diego State University. Research looking at documentaries and narrative features showcased at 23 high-profile film festivals in the last year found women directing 29% of nonfiction films and 18% of fiction films -- significantly higher than the 7% of women helming the industry's top-grossing films. (It should be noted that festival programming isn't necessarily free of gender bias, either.)"
