You know who lured Az to the library after solstice.
Azriel.
He lured himself. He was thinking of Gwyn. It’s as simple as that.

When SJM chose to point out this:
Tumblr media
And then a few pages later in the same chapter she chose to point this out: (It is Gwyn’s breath)
Tumblr media
I knew that Gwynriel was endgame.

I knew there was something between Gwyn and Azriel before I even read the bonus chapter, the bonus chapter just confirmed my thoughts, and the last paragraph confirmed them as endgame for me.

Gwyn being in Azriel’s bonus chapter itself. is very telling and shouldn’t be ignored.

I am truly terrified for SJM to announce ACOTAR 5. At this point even if the couple is confirmed in the announcement the ship war will just get worse. Hell, even when the book is released and we’ve all read it people will still be spinning BS.
I mean some people are still out here claiming that Quinlar and Nessian aren’t mates. 😫
There will never be peace in the fandom regardless if we get confirmation, just further chaos.
RIP to Bloomsbury’s DMs…
That book better be damn good after all we’ve been through!!
Stay strong fellow Gwynriels 🫡

If Az ended up with Elain then the whole bonus scene and the moments between Gwynriel would be pointless, and Sarah never writes pointless scenes.

Okay hear me out,
In the bonus chapter when gwyn said “happy solstice”
Azriel could have just said it back and left there BUT he didn’t.
He snorted. “Are you kicking me out?”
He was the one who continued the freaking interaction they were having. Like he is not someone’s who talks a lot and tries to avoid any interaction or convo with anyone and just brood most of time. He could have done the same thing BUT he didn’t.
He stayed there.
(P.s: reading the bonus chapter again and it’s giving me all the butterflies again)

It wasn’t “because I love her”
It was “what if the cauldron was wrong”
And that to me makes all the difference in the world

“it’s not just physical! azriel cares about elain as a person”
all I will say is…
“He hadn't gotten that far with his planning, certainly not beyond the fantasies he pleasured himself to.”

E/riels talk about their ship having 4 books of development. For me, it was clear that Moriel was supposed to be endgame until she decided to change Mor sexuality. It was never supposed to be Azriel and Elain.
In ACOSF, we are introduced to Gwyn, who is very similar to Azriel, and by the end, she became a Carynthian, his equal.
Sjm literally retcon the events of Sangravah, making sure that Azriel is in it.
With all that information and more, E/riels have the courage to gaslight us when we say that Gwynriel will be endgame.
And that's what you missed on Glee.

idk i just think it makes sense for azriel’s character arc — to spend centuries pining over mor, immediately pivoting to elain because “two sisters are mated to my brothers, the third should be my mate,” and then have his mate be someone he doesn’t expect. like i don’t invest in the “he doesn’t see gwyn romantically” argument because that’s a major point of the ship for me.
of the three bat boys, az is the one we’ve seen with simultaneously a) the most investment in having a mate, and also b) the insecurity of believing he doesn’t deserve one. i just don’t buy that he’s going to be right about who his mate is.

The way Lucien and Gwyn are some of the most likable and least problematic characters, and also simultaneously some of the most disliked…. all because of a ship is so crazy.

People don’t want Azriel to have his own book soooo bad because they know Elain will not be in it lmao. Which is funny because yes, technically speaking, the Archeron sisters are the main characters, but SJM has always said she writes where the characters take her, and right now there are far too many plot points open for SJM to write Elain/Lucien/ and Az, all together, even in two books and wrap it up nicely. That also makes zero sense plot wise, genuinely how would Azriel fit into the Koschei plot? And how would Elain and Lucien fit into the Illyria/Ramiel plot??
I wish people would use common fucking sense when getting on the internet and being so so loud about their terrible theories. Look at Throne of Glass for gods sake, we got Tower of Dawn AND Empire of Storms, set in two different locations, following two different plot lines which were both equally important, and (shocker) we got an entire book about Chaol!!! A man!!!! Who was NOT the main character!!!! And the book was still an amazing book.

Azriel(clearly upset): Gwyn...I think you're a lightsinger. Gwyn: What? Why!? Azriel: Well...my shadows danced with your breath as if they heard silent music. Gwyn (confused): ... Azriel: And thinking of you makes my chest spark! Gwyn: ... Azriel (trying not to smile): And I have this glowing image inside of me when I picture your teal eyes lighting up with joy. Gwyn: ... Gwyn: *looks at his shadows* Shadows: *droop in embarrassment* Gwyn (angles her head): Azriel, what do you know about mating bonds?

Us, Az and Gwyn shippers, are aware of the following things (most of us, at least):
1. We know there’s attraction between Azriel and Elain. We’ve read it. They ARE attracted to each other…for now. But we don’t think he loves her. If he loved her, he would’ve told Rhys about it and the story would’ve been different. We don’t think they’re mates either (See point number 2).
2. We also know that Elain has a mate. Elucien is not a fantasy we fabricated: this is canon, not a crackship. We ship Elain with Lucien because they are mates. Could this change? Sure, Sarah can do whatever she wants, but she has strongly hinted at these two being endgame. I guess we’ll see.
3. We know the bonus chapter is what solidifies Gwynriel for us. Why? because we read the banter, we read about Azriel laughing, something in him calming down, the spark in his chest, his shadows being playful with Gwyn. But most importantly: we read the phrasing that Sarah uses for all her mated couples being used for Az’s interaction with Gwyn. This is not something we made up: it’s there in black and white (or SJM’s Bloomsbury gray ink). However, even if the bonus chapter didn’t exist, Gwynriel was still a possibility for us and all the bonus chapter did was just confirmation. We know the bonus chapter has not changed anything from the story yet. It’s placed in the middle of ACOSF and the story ended the way we know it. BUT the bonus chapter IS a little sneek peak of what’s to come next. A preview of what Sarah has planned for Az. Why do you think Gwyn is even there? She did not need to be included in that chapter at all. Sarah did it to steer us towards where she wanted us to look. That bonus chapter is like “he likes Elain now, but look at where this could go. Here’s Gwyn. Here are some “mate-coded” phrases for this interaction with Gwyn. Keep an eye out for this in the future”.
4. We know Sarah can change a character’s love interest throughout the story at any moment. We have seen this before in ALL of her work. We are not crazy for thinking this could happen again. Az likes Elain now…but that CAN change.
5. We know there is no romance between Az and Gwyn…YET. The romance will develop later in his book. Sarah included Gwyn in this bonus chapter for a reason and also drew a clear and obvious contrast between Az’s interactions with Gwyn and his interactions with Elain (and all the drama around it).
If you ship Az and Elain, that’s ok. That could very well happen too. This is just to explain (again) why us thinking Gwyn and Az will be endgame is NOT an illusion. It is very possible.
