How did you make the cape for your Niles cosplay? I'm trying to make one myself but I don't know where to get started

ah i apologize for the late reply, sorry if your question was answered by someone else. ;_; this is my first time asked how I made anything cosplay related so I’m sorry if it’s lengthy! ;e;  pretty much improvised a lot with making it because I don’t have the proper sewing tools also it was my first time making a cape (newb here). Also, the fabric that I used for the cape kept breaking needles for my sewing machine, so it was sewed by hand. 

I apologize if this explanation is crappy. ;c;

I bought about a yard of the cheapest matte dark blue fabric I could find at my local fabric store, and 2 yards of black (this was thicker and left over from another cosplay so I used black, it kept bending my sewing machine needle ;3;). I then measured off of my body and marked the area where I needed to cut the blue part of his cape (his circlet cape part) so that it wasn’t too long. Then I measured off of my body the black fabric (underneath part of his cape) and marked it a little below my knees and cut it off there. Since most of his Reference pictures his cape is around there/ 

So, I have two separate parts, the top circlet part, and the longer extension to that. Now for the circlet part, I measured about 1 inch and a half of it and folded it, accordion style. basically I pinned it to keep the accordion like style in place, and sewed it by hand using quilting thread (a thicker thread than your regular thread), taking the pins out as I go so that way I could get that look.

Then after the blue part was done. I draped the underneath part of the cape over myself with the finished top circlet part setting on top of this piece of fabric to make sure things were aligned. Also doing this I made this makeshift hood part. I just tugged the underneath part of the cape by a corner behind my neck until I made a hood that somehow went over my head. xD

When I found the right spot to have the underneath part of the cape, I pinned the two parts together and hand sewn the circlet and underneath part vertically, down the length of the circlet part about 3 inches, so that I could keep the shape of the accordion style. Between these two points there is like an un sewn pocket of air, but it’s hidden underneath the top circlet part so no one will know. C:

Now for the chain on the cape, I bought a cheap gold chain from my local Jo-Anns. I then had left over worbla from another outfit so I used worbla and acrylic gold paint to make the pendants for the chain, as well as the “gold clamps” attached to the chain. The chain doesn’t actually connect, I just hot glued the pendants on the chain and used hair bobby pins to keep the chain attached to the cape and the “gold clamps”. xD What actually was doing their job, and kept the cape together were two tiny magnetic clamps underneath the chain. But at this point in making that outfit, I didn’t care if it was showing, I just wanted it done and wearable.
