My favorite simple wards to guard the home
Hanging rosemary above the doorstep, and/or above doors of the house for protection.
Sprinkling a line of dried red pepper on a windowsill, to counter a curse.
Placing a mix of dried & ground eggshells and black pepper in every corner of a room to keep out unwanted spirits.
Placing a decoration representing a witch in the kitchen, to keep away illness and to favor health.
Crafting an effigie (no matter how crude!) and make it into the guardian of your home by charging it with your intent of protection by placing it near the front door.
Crafting small witch ladders to hang around the house.

lil’ pagan tip/idea- dedicate a journal to your deity!
a journal can be useful for a lot of reasons. not only it is an easy way to feel closer to your deity or deities, but it can be super convenient if you’re a person who travels a lot or need to worship in secret.
things to write or put in your journal could include:
prayers
pressed flowers/leaves/herbs
sketches or doodles of things that remind you of them
devotional poems or art pieces
song lyrics
experiences you’ve had with them
dreams they’ve sent you
recipes
stickers
spells / rituals (especially ones you have done or would want to do with them)
photos
notes on offerings and devotional acts
list of crystals, herbs, colors, etc. you associate with them
and these are only a few ideas :)
the journal can also work as a mini-altar that you can put offerings on! since taking care of myself is one of the ways i honor my deity, sometimes i’ll place a glass of water or juice on the journal i have and i can keep it next to me to sip from while i’m doing something. again this can be really helpful if you travel a lot, worship discreetly, or if you don’t have a lot of space for a full altar.
additionally, you can dedicate a few pens or markers to your deity too (because everything is better with fun colors!)

Candle Magic Part 1
I used this sign dictionary. It’s the best!
Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.

some tarot tips i've collected over the years
- when shuffling, pay attention to the cards that fall out of the deck. sometimes they have a special message for you.
- questions aren't always necessary when reading. letting the cards tell you what they need to helps to develop your intuition, and the relationship between you and your deck (or the spirit you are working with, depending on how you divine information).
- when reading with multiple cards (i.e. as a spread), try and string the cards together rather than interpreting them by their individual meanings:
recurring suits, themes, symbols, and numbers
proportions of suits and uprights vs. reversals
position of the cards (e.g. if people are present in the cards, where are they looking?)
colours of the cards (e.g. do any of the cards stand out more than the rest?)
- although each card has a core meaning, different decks with different art could emanate different "flavours" of the core meaning.
- draw a clarifying card if something confuses you, but try not to draw any more than two cards per reading.

Another Sigil Tutorial
Hello everyone! So I had a lot of questions about my other sigil posts and decided to post another method to making sigils. This is another one of my favorites to use! I just really like the way these turn out. I call this the constellation method!
Step 1: Get your Phrase
For this tutorial I'm using the phrase "Protect this place"
Step 2: Take Out Repeating Letters
So any repeating letters you have take them out! *Side note: this step doesn't matter too much because of the method which you will see in a minute but it helps confusion*
"Protect this place" becomes "protechisla"
Step 3: Making Dots
Remember this chart?
Tumblr media
So grab this chart and just ignore your numbers. Take what is left of your phrase for us "protechisla" and make dots on all of the letters you see. It should come out looking something like this:
Tumblr media
So now we've got our "stars" for our "constelation". Take out the chart and you should be left with an assortment of dots like this:
Tumblr media
Step 4: Connecting the Dots
So we have this random assortment of dots and now you get to be creative and connect them however you see fit. Play around until you have something you like. This is what mine looked like after some playing around with different arrangements:
Tumblr media
Step 5: Make it a "Constellation"
Tumblr media
This is what mine looked like when I was finished.
This is a wonderful method for those who are still in the "broom closet" because they just look like super cute little doodles or constellations. It's a super easy method. Just remember DON'T OVERTHINK ANYTHING!!!!! Make this your own sigil. Follow the method but also do whatever feels right! And most important! Stay safe and have fun with it!!!!!

The three virtues of the Magician
Ever since I started studying magic, I’ve apprehended everything in a very scattered way. No head and no toes. With time I started understanding in my own way how to sort everything in my head. This is how I arrange everything while I study.
Tumblr media
The Virtue of Knowing (Gnosis)
The passive Virtue. It does not talk about knowledge in the superficial sense of the word. Knowing here is related to the acknowledgement, understanding and observing of the realities, not just cognitive learning. I divide this Virtue in two Hylegnosis, Aithergnosis.
Hylegnosis relates to the knowledge of all things material. Here the studies of Astronomy, Herbology, chemistry and others apply.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aithergnosis relates to all that can be known and observed within the Astral Light (in Qabalistic terms, from Tipheret to Yesod). This virtue is related with Clairvoyance.
Meditations within this Virtue deal with passive observance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Virtue of Daring (Thaumaturgy)
The active Virtue is related to the performing of magical deeds. From the performing of visualization and manipulation of energy to the most complex ceremonial magic. Invoking, evoking, transfiguration, transmutation, projection and manipulation.
Meditations within this virtue deal with active visualizations, astral projection and creation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Virtue of Being (Theurgy)
Perhaps the most important Virtue, deals with the sublimation of the self and building the Body of Light. This is the true area of the Magician. It appears as the basis for the expansion and growing of Consciousness.
It’s tools include active and passive meditation, ceremonial magic and daily behaviour.

Properties of Sands
By Rainy-Day-Witchcraft
⌲ Beach Sand: Use for calming or anxiety spells to gradually wash away and smooth out fear/negativity, for spells of change, or in magick for motivation or strength
⌲ Desert Sand: Use for cursing to “dry out” your target of wealth/luck/happiness/etc, or add to a resilience spell for the capability to grow through hard times or situations
⌲ River Sand: Use for spells that are focused on moving on physically or mentally, or for change and/or healing magick - Can also serve as an elemental water offering
⌲ Volcanic Sand: Use for destructive spells or curses, in magick to reveal deeper or hidden meanings/feelings, or for banishing magick - Can also serve as an elemental fire offering
⌲ Heavy Mineral/Crystal Sand: (Sands with significant presence of Quartz, Garnet, Olivine, Hematite, etc.) Use in magick for personal growth, focus, or motivation. If you have a sand heavily composed of a specific gemstone (quartz, for example) usable as a substitute for that gemstone in spellwork.
⌲ Black Sand: Use for protection, banishing, or negativity-based spells
⌲ Biogenic Sand: (Sand composed majorly of bioorganisms - shells, skeletons, bones, corals, etc.) Use in magick for healing or protection

I might get in trouble for saying this but fuck it ig. So I get wanting to protect closed traditions from the uninitiated that's like, the point of initiatory traditions, the information is not meant to be widely disseminated. I am all in support of keeping secrets and traditional practices secret and traditional.
But witchblr seems to think that total ignorance of these practices is somehow a virtue. You are doing no one any services by knowing absolutely nothing about Voodoo and yet claiming to support the continuation of its spiritual legacy. There is no more harm in just knowing the names of the Loa than in knowing the names of the deities who had greek mystery cults. Knowledge is not the same as actually going out to try and call them up without any background or a knowledge of how they would want to be approached (if they would want to be approached at all).
The fact is that the majority of these are spirit traditions, and the spirits of these traditions will not work with someone they don't deem worthy (although I wouldn't put it past some of them to fuck with people). If the practice isn't meant to work for someone outside of it, then it won't, or worse, as was seen a couple months ago by a young woman, if anyone recalls.
It is not a sin to inform yourself about practices other than your own, and people need to stop pretending that it's a good thing to be completely and utterly clueless about things. There are blogs out there that think ceremonial magic is some sort of wierd nazi cultural appropriation club because of the culture of ignorance fostered on this site. And as a related point, just because you see or read something online or in a book it doesn't mean you need to try and mimic it.

As always, use your own judgement regarding your personal ethics and your skill level as a witch, before casting any spells. If anyone has anything else they wish to include, please feel free to add to this list, as it is by no means comprehensive! This is just some of what I was able to gather together for this.
I drew from a lot of sources for these and did my best to make sure they weren’t from any closed practices, but if they are and I missed that PLEASE let me know so I can either edit the post appropriately or remove it entirely. The same goes for if a post of yours was linked here and you wish to have it removed!
With that said, Black Lives Matter, and let’s cast some spells for them, witches.
