ok i was gonna draw some gay porn for kyle or w/e but
suddenly i find it incredibly imperative to make a big post about how consistency in art is important
ok look at this.

it’s not perfectly anatomically correct, but it’s like halfway decent and everything look like it goes together properly. i rushed it so it’s not perfect, but i took the time to make sure that everything check out and was proper. i actually went back and look at a guide on facial diversity to try and give them a more masculine face without resorting to something like a cube with a shaggy beard. that’s another important point, the use of referential material

and on this piece the anatomy is twisted, and off whack, but it’s CONSISTENT in how it’s whacked out and this still looks decent. while i still rushed it, it honestly took me longer than the above piece because i had to like, make sure it was stylized and goofy looking while still making sure that you could identify that it was, in fact, a lion-like face and bear-like proportions

this right here however is all incontinent, some parts look proper, some look warped. it looks really lazy and effortless, because it is. i didn’t use any sort of reference, i didn’t’ use a wireframe guideline, i put literally 0 EFFORT into this, and that’s not cool like at all. i could hide behind the wall of “but it’s my style!” but the fact of the matter is it’s shitty, i didn’t try, and saying “it’s my style” is like saying “i am lazy and refuse to improve” if someone were paying me to draw for them i definitely WOULDN’T make it like this
in conclusion, you really shouldn’t use “it’s stylized” as an excuse for being lazy about something, and you should always take the time to improve and experiment because saying “it’s my style” is like giving up and letting yourself stagnate. and if you’re gonna use Picasso as an argument i’d like to point out he paints shit like this http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/bc/Old_guitarist_chicago.jpg see how it’s stylistic but isn’t a wonky piece of shit? he’s doing that to show different angles, but still practices proper anatomy. that’s kind of what i meant about this whole thing.
i’m saying this because i want to see people challenge themselves and improve!
