If he thought staring down a gun barrel was repetitive, Tess should have felt the
same way about being on the other side -- too often she’d been the one holding
the trigger, finger ready to shift a hair at the slightest turn of events. Her whole
life had been a loaded gun, a goddamn metaphor. She laughed, grip tightening
at the request, ❝ Who are you trying to convince? We’re all bad guys; it’s just
figuring out what kind of bad guy you are, Blue Eyes. You alone? ❞
Christ, if he had a buck for every time someone has pointed a gun at him, he
would be almost as rich as he was before all this shit went down. He doesn’t even
blink at the sight. He only returns the smirk, making sure to not show any signs of
hostility. By the time he pulls out his own pistol, she’d shoot him dead. He’s not

so as not to alarm the kid anymore than she already was. The ceiling vent was a
rusted mess, probably wouldn’t hold Tess’ weight and certainly wouldn’t hold the
combined weight of the two of them. She knew what had to be done. Tess lightly
shoved Ellie out of her way and took over holding the cart, nodding towards the
vent, ❝ I’ll be right behind you. ❞

[Ellie groaned, holding the metal cart to the door. It was loaded with random metal
crates. It was heavy enough to stand by itself, yet she decided to give it some
more support. Rattling came from behind as the door slammed against the crate.]

psychological nausea. Tommy left. Processing that was tough. He’d left plenty of
times before, blowing off steam after a fall out with his bullheaded brother. Tess was
usually the mediator if they couldn’t work it out themselves, but the tension lately...
she quickly put two and two together, ❝ Oh, fuck. He left with Marlene, didn’t he? He
joined the Fireflies. ❞ She fell into the seat next to his, eyes fixed on the dusty window,
then the rusting pipes -- anywhere but Joel. A hesitant hand found his shoulder,
❝ I’m sorry, Tex. ❞
a disgruntled huff left his lips as he turned. anger was evident
in his eyes and body language, but even deeper there was
HEARTBREAK. ❛ you don’t get it, tess. he left. tommy LEFT.
my last little bit of family blood is GONE and i dunno if i’m gonna
be able to fix it. ❜ with that he sits and lets his face fall into his hands.
he has tess and cares for her as much he does tommy, but it stung
h a r d having family walk out on you.
