i want merlin to be such a shrimp when it comes to magic. in the same sense that shrimp can see more colours than humans. merlin can do things with his magic that’s so beyond even the most powerful sorcerer’s. and not just oh he can do some very powerful stuff effortlessly. no. i want it to be original only to him. he’s the only one with the tools that could make it happen. just like we can’t see certain colours, regular sorcerers can’t access the type of magic he has.

I also cannot believe that Merlin's Teen-Angst infamous sentence "If I can't use magic, I might as well die!" was said in response to Gaius scolding him for casting spells less than an armlength away from the Prince of Camelot while the man in question was staring right at him to take aim with a morningstar

i really like the hc that magic loved arthur and protected him until merlin came into the picture but very specifically bc it means his idea of like. the laws of physics and How Nature Works would be completely warped. the reason why all those miraculously falling branches didnt raise any questions? its been happening to him his entire life

i love the moments where you can see how clearly merlin is connected to magic. his sorrow for the unicorn. when he fainted after the veil was torn. how he notices when objects leave traces of magic. seeing gwen in the deer’s eyes. he is magic itself! he’s seeing himself in the world! it’s all a part of him!
