While I sit here polishing off another manuscript, I adapted 13s theme yet again for the Fifth Doctor. This time for his costume reveal in Castrovalva, and the music in that style.
It’s a bit janky but it’s about an hours work.

Been thinking about music for companion exits lately.
And I’ve been stuck in bed most of the day feeling a bit poorly.
I wondered if Madam De Pompadour’s theme would work for the exit of Jamie and Zoe.
So that’s what I’ve been tinkering with today!
Here’s a quick mockup of what I had in mind.

Here it is! Doomsday in the style of 1976.
TWO MINUTE PREVIEW. FULL TRACK ON MY YOUTUBE CHANNEL.
I was initially going to come up with a story to explain how the Doomsday scenario could happen in Season 14. Maybe Sarah-Jane was whisked away at the end of The Hand of Fear, as part of a backup plan by the Master and Chancellor Goth, and the Doctor found out about this, and talked with her at the end of The Deadly Assassin using Time Lord technology on Gallifrey.
But I thought it would be better to let you come up with your own ideas to explain how Sarah-Jane could get separated from the Doctor in a parallel universe, and how he managed to communicate with her. Feel free to share your thoughts about how this could happen, in the comments. I'd be very keen to hear how you think it could have worked!
I took inspiration from the soundtrack of The Deadly Assassin to come up with the instruments to use for this. There's heavy woodwind (oboes and bassoon's) and one of the backing instruments is an organ which featured prominently in that story. I tried to balance both authenticity with emotion and nostalgia - a balance I try to strike with most of my remixes. So, before anyone comments "this doesn't completely sound like it's from 1976", this is why. Tracks like this would not have featured in Classic Who, and to strip it down and make it as authentic as possible, much of the emotion and nostalgia would have been removed (in my opinion, anyway) that means it deviates massively from what I'm trying to do.
There are some brilliant creators out there who do an incredible job of making 'era authentic' music. @HudsonMedia and @GeorgeCMusic are two examples of creators who do a phenomenal job of this, and deserve infinitely more praise than they get for their efforts. I admire their work immensely, and would encourage you to subscribe to their channels.
My approach is to echo the nostalgia and emotion attached to the original track while making it sound like it *could* have sounded in the era being channeled. This is done by taking the original track and 'plugging in' the instruments or sounds of the era. My work has been described as "bombastic", "fun", and "emotional", which is what I try to prioritise with my mixes. That's a long winded way of saying that if anyone says 'it doesn't sound like the 70's' that I KNOW!
Also, I know someone is going to comment "this, but the 1960's" or something similar. I'm receptive to suggestions for future releases, but lately the suggestions have been more like a demand or insistence than a suggestion for the future. I've been getting a bit uncomfortable with the degree to which people have been saying 'do this', like they have the right to demand something from me. Like I said, I'm very receptive to suggestions, and several of my releases have been the result of a suggestion, but please don't phrase it in a way that shows you have the right to tell me what to do. I don't claim any monetary reward for this work, and I'm very unlikely to ever start some sort of monetary reward platform for these, for ethical reasons (it's copyrighted music, and I use sheet music and/or MIDI files made by other people). So, this work isn't rewarded by money, and it's something I do in my spare time, both as a therapeutic distraction from a tumultuous personal life, and as procrastination from my PhD. So, please phrase your suggestions a little more respectfully.
Lastly, I wondered about releasing this in July, being the 18th anniversary of Doomsday. But it seemed too far away, and as the Majestic Tale (1970s) is taking a lot longer to work on, I thought this would make for a decent release in the meantime.
Enjoy!

RIP Anthony Ainley who died 20 years ago today.
This is a very quick retro remix, that took literally 5 minutes of reprogramming from my 70s version, of the Simm Master’s theme for Ainley’s Master.
It’s only a quick attempt as I found out it was the 20th anniversary about 20 minutes before I made this. So it’s a bit rough but I wanted to make it in time for the anniversary.
Ainley’s Master was woefully underrated.

Hello!
This was an idea that has been suggested a few times and I was procrastinating enough to explore today.
Segun Akinola's "Spy Master" theme in the style of 1971 for the Delgado Master.
This is only a draft idea but I think it worked enough to share the first minute or so as it is.
The melody might be a bit too grating, and if I do a full release of this I'll tone it down a bit.
But enjoy this in the meantime! I set the music to one of my favourite scenes with The Master - the chair of DOOM from Terror of the Autons.
If you can identify what Season 8 story I used as inspiration for the bass of this track, congrats you’re a nerd like me.

Here’s a snippet of what I’m working on.
Doomsday: 1976
I finished the first draft today. My releases go through two drafts before I produce a final third version.
I’ve tried to make this both as emotional and authentic as possible.

1000 Youtube subscriber special!
As Murray Gold's 'A Dark and Endless Dalek Night' was my 500 subscriber special, and people asked for this, I've done a Cybermen retro remix using Murray Gold's spectacular score, drawing on dandalf's incredible sheet music on MuseScore.
This is mostly a track with an 80's feel, as I found myself wondering how it would sound with Earthshock. But it has elements of all of classic Doctor Who music. It has the metallic sound of Malcolm Clarke's Cybermen music from Earthshock and Attack of the Cybermen, and the eerie melody and big drums of the 60's Cybermen theme, with the organ and heavy woodwind sounds of the 70's.
I really enjoyed making this one, and I hope you enjoy it too.
The 70's take on The Majestic Tale is taking a bit longer than I had hoped so I'm not sure if that'll be the next release or if I get sidetracked with another idea in the meantime.
Either way, stay tuned. And thank you so much for your support over the past several months!

Found an old MIDI file of the 60s Cybermen theme I’ve had for years (unsure who to credit).
Initially was going to try for an orchestral remix of it but found myself making a remix with a late 80s vibe.
I set part of it to Silver Nemesis.

Here's a second attempt at the Sad Man in a Box. I swapped some of the instruments for heavy woodwind and organ-esque sounds as heard during this era, and extended the ending of Green Death.
Progress is a bit slow on other releases as I've had to prioritise other things in life, and the current project is probably the toughest I've had to do yet. So in the meantime, I'll probably release a few smaller/shorter videos.
I'm unsure who made the MIDI/Sheet music for this, so if it's yours please let me know! I had it sitting on my hard drive for a while.

I needed a bit of a distraction today away from some rather demanding work, so found myself wondering if the "Doctor Forever" track from the Tenth Doctors era would work for the Eighth Doctor, when done in a MIDI/Big Finish style.
I set it to the ending of the TVM where I think it kinda fits. The theme is timeless but slightly romantic, just like this scene.
This is only a draft, so the stereo and volume mixing isn’t 100% how I’d normally mix these, but it’s mainly an idea to see if Ten’s theme suits this Doctor. The harp especially could do with some toning down. Let me know what you think! If you think it works I may do a longer release of this in the future.
Also, I’m still working away on the 70s Majestic Tale, but it's likely I'll have a proper release before then as this track is taking quite a lot of time and energy to get right.

In 2002, I borrowed the cassette audio book of Genesis from my library. My Walkman was running low on battery power. This meant the theme was slower & spookier than usual. I recorded it and set it to Tom’s end credits…

Happy Birthday Patrick Troughton!
Here’s a recent attempt at a theme for the Second Doctor using Gold’s “Gridlocked Cassini’s”, MIDI by Stephen Willis.
I don’t have internet on my laptop so can’t make a montage, so resorted to ripping a scene off YouTube instead.
