Online sites like Grailed, bumped, and depop are incredibly popular when it comes to casually reselling. With both buying and seller protection, money transfers through Paypal and easy to use interface has propelled these website to the forefront of the reseller topic. There are a few downsides though, as price gouging is a huge problem on those apps and recently Grailed upped their commission fee to 9% which is still met with backlash today.

I am currently a huge fan of high top boots for the fall and winter and have amassed a collection I’m proud of, from tanker boots to motorcycle boots I have quite a few. The best part is that most of these I will be able to resell when the time comes so I can get at least some return on that investment. This is one of the best examples of finding a niche area of fashion you are into to resell and invest in so that you contribute less to the problems mentioned before.

Lately Goodwill has come under fire because it was discovered now that they intentionally vet out specific brands and types of clothes so they don't hit the racks. Specifically vintage and brands that are often resold. The controversy continues because the company is now involved in reselling itself and will sell the pieces to wholesalers. This is especially  interesting to hear as goodwill is labeled as a non profit.

There are serious ethical problems when it comes to reselling. The gentrification of thrift stores is a prominent threat to low income families that rely on second hand stores for necessities.  The influx of traffic at these stores has caused prices to raise and in turn make once affordable items out of reach for some individuals.

I am personally invested into this  topic as I have my own website to resell clothing and I specify in vintage work wear and borrowed valor looks. Above is a photos of some of the pants that I've been able to purchase from second hand stores around town. This drop of 15 pants I put on my website sold out in a few days which goes to prove that there is a market and ability to make money from this.

If there is a plan to shop second hand stores in order to resell clothing then the best place to be without a doubt are the goodwill bins. Not commonly around and specifically in larger cities these stores work either by the pound or by the bag when it comes to the prices. This allows you to purchase large quantities for a cheap cost and also saves the workers the effort of sorting the clothing themselves.

Trevor Gorji, owner of “Fugazi” and “NKST” has gone on record saying that he first got into fashion when he would sell his old clothes to make some money. Slowly the habit grew and he became a full blown reseller and that was originally his source of income when he moved to LA. He says that first he would look for pieces he like, then see if they fit in his wardrobe, finally would see if he would be able to resell it after he had grown tired of wearing it.

When it comes to reselling none do it better then Fernando Rangel, owner of “Silver League” and “Unsound Rags”. The idea of reselling clothing is not foreign to most but the level that Fernando takes it to has made him highly successful and profitable. Focusing on archive clothing like the Virginia Creeper crewneck to Vintage Carhartt double knee pants, Fernando is constantly moving some of the most coveted grails when it comes to the fashion scene.
