Mark Bonnar and James McAvoy in “Out in the Open” (by Jonathan Harvey; dir Kathy Burke) at Hampstead Theatre in 2001
(You’re welcome. :-D )
(Acquired from a number of sources, but I assume these photos ultimately belong to Hampstead Theatre.)
(And why yes, I am partly sharing in case any Charles/Erik or (even more exciting!) Jimmy/Duncan fans want to use these as reference pics. :-))
[Image description: four black-and-white photos from Out in the Open in 2001. All four feature Mark Bonnar (a white man, then in his early 30s) as Tony and James McAvoy (another white man, then in his early 20s) as Iggy. The set in all cases suggests the garden of a house. Decking and a trellis.
1. Tony (Mark) sits on a garden chair. Iggy (James) sits on the decking, his head on Tony’s right thigh. Tony wears a pale collared shirt, open at the top, dark trousers, and open-toed shoes of some kind. Iggy wears a football (ie soccer) shirt, jeans, and converse shoes. Tony has his left arm draped on the arm of the chair; his right hand is playing with Iggy’s hair. They both look peaceful.
2. A different scene, with different outfits: Iggy’s in a plainer t-shirt, Tony in a tartan dressing gown. They are both standing, in profile to us. Tony is kissing Iggy, his hand on Iggy’s face. Iggy has a hand on Tony’s waist. Iggy has a rucksack on his back.
3. The same scene as 2. The kiss is now a full-on snog, Tony’s hand in Iggy’s hair; Iggy’s on Tony’s shoulder.
4. The same scene as 1. Tony’s still in the chair, Iggy still on the decking, but now sitting up, between Tony’s legs. Tony has a hand on Iggy’s shoulder. They’re looking at (and presumably listening to) someone else who’s in the scene. Neither of them looks that happy at what’s being said, Tony especially.]
The beginning, where Erik is alone and at his worst and Charles gives him a home.
The ending, where Charles is alone and at his worst and Erik gives him a home.
