I've been thinking about this exact thing a lot lately. The main way I've been trying to be okay about it began a few weeks ago when I met my younger sibling's friends at a production of The Lightning Thief the musical. I saw them and the other kids in the audience who were the same age as the kids from the book, and it made things a little better. I'm not them anymore, but I get to watch them do the best they can and experience the youth of the "protagonist ages" while they read and watch the same things that shaped me into the adult I'm becoming.

the fact that i'm no longer the same age as the protagonists of novels and films i once connected to is so heartbreaking. there was a time when I looked forward to turning their age. i did. and i also outgrew them. i continue to age, but they don't; never will. the immortality of fiction is beautiful, but cruel.

It's a lot healthier to go for a daily walk than to sign up for a gym membership you won't be using because you hate that kind of exercise. It's a lot healthier to eat a frozen meal than to skip a meal because you were too tired to cook something healthy. It's a lot healthier to take a quick shower than to procrastinate an elaborate routine for days. Don't aim so high that you won't be hitting anything!
