If there's a way to submit a post from my own tumblr, I don't see it...
I took this picture of Carbon Leaf at the concert I went to.  Maybe you could reblog it? (: http://lynxdaemonskye.tumblr.com/post/8528329124/carbon-leaf-learn-to-fly-little-rock-ar-august

Feeling nostalgic for Carbon Leaf, going to so many shows while in college, and the awesome people I met because of it. It was the most social I’ve ever been. Good memories shouldn’t make me feel so depressed.

Today I strike out on my own The dog is dead. The kids have grown I fell asleep in my writing chair I drempt I’d found my childhood stare To family dinner Christmas night We’d cross the river shipyard lights Before the heartbreak and unknown Today I strike out on my own Hi-diddely-o, didn’t ya know? You fade once you glow Didn't ya know, child? After the rhyme, high time diddely-o, didn't you know? You fade once you glow. Didn't ya known, child? After the rhyme, high time. The families gather but we’re all Mere Shadows in this Banquet Hall I’m beggin mom will you understand I’m beggin dad will you hold her hand To play outside was all i’d known And Christmas lights on every home Hi-diddely-o, didn't ya know? You fade once you glow Didn't ya know, child? After the rhyme, high time diddely-o, didn't you know? You fade once you glow. Didn’t ya known, child? After the ryhme, high time. We find the people of our dreams We find that they’re not what they seem I've learned that people come and go I've learned that families break and grow Toy soldiers brave away those tears Toy soldiers hope for better years Today I strike out on my own The dog is dead. We kids have grown. Hi-diddely-o, didn't ya know? You fade once you glow Didn't ya know, child? After the rhyme, high time diddely-o, didn't you know? You fade once you glow. Didn't ya known, child? After the rhyme, high time.

I’ve always thought that “Ether-Electrified Porch Music” is an awesome title for an album. :3

I was trying to figure out how to describe them to someone, and so I googled, and...hehe.
Their style is not “Brazilian Polka Metal”, despite the joking claims of guitarist Carter Gravatt (B., David. 2002)
LOL
Typical Carter.

If you have friends in Gloryland, Who left because of pain Thank God up there, they’ll die no more They’ll suffer not again. Then weep not friends, I’m goin’ home Up there we’ll die no more No coffins will be made up there No graves on that bright shore The lame will walk in Gloryland The blind up there will see The deaf in Gloryland will hear The dumb will talk to me The doctor will not have to call The undertaker, no There’ll be no pain up there to bear Just walk the streets of gold We’ll need no sun in Gloryland The moon and stars won’t shine For Christ himself is light up there He reigns of love divine Then weep not friends, I’m goin’ home Up there we’ll die no more No coffins will be made up there No graves on that bright shore

It's hard for me to pick a favorite Carbon Leaf song, but this one is at the top of the list. Has been since 2002. :3

Watching Carbon Leaf videos.
It's still baffling to me how LITTLE views a lot of their videos have. It's like they're Richmond's best kept secret, except for the exposure they got way back when.

Listening to 5 Alive brings back so many good memories. Well, listening to CL makes me feel that way, period. Coupled with that, listening makes me feel a bit wistful.

I woke, I broke free, drove a long time It didn’t purge you from my mind Hang up the halo, maybe you’re right Chalk it up to a starry night To be set free, to live and learn Did we pass or fail the term? You wrote a note with chalk on my door A message I’d known long before: On any given day, you’ll find me gone On any given day, you’ll find me gone
Give me your reason, give me your rhyme So I can tempo me to your time
So I can scratch your surface and be A deeper part of the mystery To be undone, to be alone To live life in monotone I reach the beach and try to ignore The warning I’d known long before On any given day, you’ll find me gone On any given day, you’ll find me gone
I’ve been down to the sea I’ve been down to the sea And so all of the lovers will say Forever star-crossed will we stay Still I can’t help feeling castaway on any given day Still I can’t help feeling you’ll run away on any given day
I window shop for you in my mind A flannel shirt at the five and dime A lether coat cut big city style Boots from plastic crocodile A pinecone dipped in glitter glue A penny 1942 A necklace with a cheap green stone Barefeet, cold sand. Chill to the bone
I’ve been down to the sea I’ve been down to the sea And so all of the lovers will say Forever star-crossed will we stay Still I can’t help feeling castaway on any given day Still I can’t help feeling you’ll run away on any given day
My eye on you. My eye on you. My eye on you always
I’ve been down to the sea I’ve been down to the sea And so all of the lovers will say Forever star-crossed will we stay Still I can’t help feeling castaway on any given day Still I can’t help feeling you’ll run away on any given day
I lift my hands up, smell to reveal Your perfume on the steering wheel You’re next to me asleep and I smile I think I’ll drive on for awhile

Looking through EPA’s Documerica Project and I spotted this familiar picture from the cover of Carbon Leaf’s ‘Indian Summer’. The picture is from June, 1972 and depicts a “Teenager in Second Ward, Chicano Neighborhood”.  Photographer: Danny Lyon
