Frederick has everyone's birthdays memorized, of course. He would be a terrible knight otherwise, by no one's standards but his own, and he certainly could not allow himself to sully the Shepherds' good name like that. As an aside, he also is quite fond of the pegasus knight for a variety of reasons. He considers her a close friend. As such, he holds out the small box to her. Though they have not spoken since his arrival last month, he could never let her birthday go without some sort of gift. "Cordelia," he says, and gives her a slight smile. The gold ribbon within the box would go quite well in her hair, he thinks, and hopes she will agree. "Happy birthday. I didn't want for you to think I had forgotten you."
She wasn't sure what she had been expecting when Frederick approached her, but being handed a birthday gift certainly wasn't it. Cordelia's eyes widened at the box and she gingerly accepted it from him. Gently opening it, she had to smile brightly at the ribbon inside and she plucked it up.
"Oh Frederick, thank-you," said Cordelia as she looked back up at him, holding the gold ribbon to her chest. "It's a wonderful gift."
She'd do it better later, but for now, she quickly pulled her hair over her shoulder and plaited the red strands together, fastening it at the end with her new ribbon. It was beautiful, Frederick had excellent taste as ever.

Divine Naga, it was cold in this swampy territory. Though given the look of the trees, it didn't normally look this way. She had been told that this area had been flooded by the storm. Perhaps if she had taken her pegasus, but even she knew that would be a tall order for any mount. Cordelia sighed and kept walking until someone called out to her. Turning around, she saw a young man approaching.
"A pleasure to meet you, Dimitri," she replied, nodding. And it was a pleasure to meet anybody in this swamp. "I'm Cordelia Fabre."
She hummed in agreement when Dimitri started with small talk. These were horrible conditions. Looking around, Cordelia frowned, before she let out a quiet and tired laugh.
"I'm not sure that we would be able to convince pegasi to fly out here," she said. "They wouldn't have anywhere to land safely. A wyvern could perhaps land in a tree?" She laughed a bit more at her suggestion. "Unless the academy has vaulting poles that we could borrow, I'm not sure..."

During your brief absence, a powerful storm flooded Garreg Mach with what felt like an ocean’s worth of rain. The forested path that leads to Remire Village in Adrestia is still flooded, turning dirt paths into muddy swamps that even the horses don’t want to touch. It’s the foot soldiers who finally have their day, using their lances to vault over bogs and deep puddles. [ Grants Lance +1 ]
A sea of mud stood in the way of Dimitri and his destination. Having been forewarned about the conditions, the Blue Lion had chosen to go by foot to Remire village, though he missed the joy of riding. Even the weather wanted to take away what few pleasures he had left in the world. Trudging through the swampy condition, stick mud soon coated most of the way up his calves.
He attempted to pull himself out of his misery by looking around the rest of the group in hope of spotting a friendly face. There wasn’t anyone in the immediate area who he was familiar with, however a red-haired lady caught his attention. Like him, she carried a lance strapped across her back and looked equally despondent at their situation. Quicken his pace, Dimitri splashed through the muddy yuk to reach her side.
“Excuse me Miss … Er, hello. I don’t believe we’ve met before. I’m Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd.” An awkward introduction sure, but Dimitri hoped he’d come over as polite.” Searching round for a topic to discuss he settled for the tried and true small talk conversation. The weather. “Disgusting conditions we’re having to trek through isn’t it? If only there was a way to stay dry and preferably clean” He said, indicating the mud caking his garments with a small chuckle. “Well apart form the obvious answer of flying”

When the man almost stared at her for a moment, Cordelia tilted her head slightly with confusion. But he didn't ask anything that would explain why he had done so, as such when he handed her makeshift map back, she simply smiled a little hesitantly as she accepted it back and then dropped into a short curtsy as way of thanks.
"Thank-you, sir," she hummed, glancing at her map to right it to the direction she had been holding it. It wouldn't do to loose where she was on the map after all. When he offered to guide her, her smile became more genuine.
"I am a little lost," she admitted. "I'm new here, so I don't know my way around yet. I have been attempting to amend that with some success, though I have yet to find the library... I wouldn't mind a guide though."
Cordelia brought her hands together and this time tilted her head with a smile.
"My name is Cordelia Fabre, it is nice to meet you."
“ It is no trouble at all. You need not worry yourself over it, ”  Kent replies, crouching down and picking up the fallen map to hand to her, truly not bothered by being bumped into, but...
Having the chance to look at her face now, his brows raise a bit in surprise. Their voices were slightly different, so he hadn't thought anything of it when he had first collided with her and he had heard her speak, but now...
“ Right! Here you are. My apologies for holding onto it for an additional moment there. ”  He rights himself, holding her map towards her, but the mental puzzle that has entered this situation fails to leave him. He is a bit more awkward than he would have wished to be, but regardless of what is occurring here, he still finds he wishes to help her.
“ ...Are you by chance lost? If you have need of a guide, I would not be opposed... ”

"Thanks!" Cordelia chirped, smiling as she accepted the drink. Honestly, it was good to know a friend was around for this bizzare event.
"I certainly hope we'll be normal sized again," she replied, sighing. "Perhaps once the ball is over? I only build this theory off of the fact that it seemed to happen when we entered the ball..."
It seemed like a fair assumption to make after all. Though when it came to unknown magic, she had to admit it was a bit of a gamble.
Sparkling Water: Fresh spring water that has been magically carbonated. Served with a squeeze of lime or a dash of one of the many fruit syrups available at the bartender’s disposal.
Ingrid plucked up a plain sparkling water in each hand. Although the ballroom was open to the elements the air had gotten stifling and dry. Although maybe that was the fatigue getting to her. But nothing cured that quite like water, which would surely help her clear her head for the rest of the party.
She lifted one glass, waving at Cordelia as she spotted her. “Hey! Do you want some water?!”
Seeing Ingrid, Cordelia smiled and walked over quickly. She waved in return. She was glad to see a familiar and friendly face among everyone. She still felt very new in Fodlan.
"Ingrid, hello!" she greeted. "Water would be lovely, thank-you!"
It really would too. A refreshing glass of water would be good after going around the ball. Perhaps she was a bit more energetic in trying to get around, but it was difficult to traverse the monastery when one was the size of a mouse!

Some winds punished fliers dearly for mistakes... Cordelia shook her head to chase that thought away. She had made that mistake once before. Never again. She smiled at Tibarn to chase away a memory. Perhaps it should have been expected that he would understand the wind. Letting that topic drop away, she let her focus go to listening.
With rapt attention, Cordelia listened as the professor spoke about laguz, as he demonstrated his own transformation, and as he answered her questions. When he transformed again, she kept a calming hand on Aurora's neck, but her pegasus didn't react with much surprise this time. Just another ally to her faithful friend it seemed. That was good though.
"So what is your tribe like?" she asked, her curiosity burning to know.
Watching the professor as he floated, Cordelia considered his question. "Taguels resemble.... rabbits I believe."
"Exactly. It's not that different from familiarizing oneself with new terrain," Tibarn nods in agreement. "The voice of the local wind is one you need to listen to, if you're going to fly and fight up here. Some winds don't tolerate mistakes."
Perhaps one day some of those kids will learn to fly with the wind, instead of wrestling against it. Cordelia, for what it's worth, seems at least to have that covered.
"Proud and powerful, huh? We've got that in common then, at least." He huffs in satisfaction, smiling at the blush that decorates Cordelia's face in reaction to his words.
"Hah, it's alright. I can appreciate the thoughtfulness. Anyway," the second question in particular prompts a small pause from him. "Heh. It's one of those things, isn't it? It's difficult to explain how we transform, other than we just kinda do. It's an ability we gain the instant we're born."
Green wisps of aura gather around him as he speaks, eventually enveloping his entire body - and before long, his silhouette and wingspan grow larger and more massive before the energy dissipates, fully revealing the same Hawk form that had bumped into Cordelia and her pegasus earlier. "As I mentioned before, it takes some energy to do and maintain, so you need to train a lot in order to stay transformed for a longer period of time," he continues, his voice unchanged. "I guess that's the payoff of not having any kind of stone or whatever to keep the power in," he muses, untransforming again just in case to avoid spooking the student's mount.
"There's three main tribes of laguz: the beasts, which include Cats, Tigers and Lions. Then there's the birds: Hawks, Ravens and Herons. And finally, there's the Dragon tribe, consisting of Black, Red and White dragons." He lists. "While the transformation's something we all have in common, each tribe has its own abilities, strengths, weaknesses, structure, culture and everything."
He sits cross-legged in mid-air, his wings humming lightly in the wind as they support him while he floats. "What do the Taguel look like? Do they resemble any animal in particular?"

Another pegasus rider then? Perhaps their encounter was a bit more than just random chance then. Cordelia almost laughed out loud at that though. Fated encounters were all well and good but this was a school. So instead she smiled.
"We may not be the best, but we are working towards being the best we can be," she replied. "You will reach the level you're aiming for with time."
As would she. Nodding to Ingrid as she picked up a lance from the rack of training weapons, Cordelia moved back to where she had been standing and beckoned her new friend over.
"Starting on the ground is always best," she agreed. "Though one thing you should try imagine as I take you through this style is the movement of your pegasus."
Holding up her lance so that it was over her shoulder, Cordelia demonstated pivoting her lance with her wrist, making its length behind her swing.
"We don't want to be hitting the wings of our pegasi after all."
Ingrid beamed, relieved at Cordelia’s friendly demeanor. She hadn’t met her until today, but she liked the girl already. She wielded her lance with such grace and perfection and power.
“That’s perfect, actually!” She said, smiling wider as she made her way to the rack where the training lances lay. “I’ve actually been training to become a pegasus rider! I’m not half bad.”
She winced at her own over-confidence. She wasn’t that good, and she very clearly still had so much to learn. “Well, I’m not the best. I still have a lot to learn to reach the level I’m hoping for.”
She plucked a lance from the rack, spinning it loosely over her head. The training lances were much lighter than the ones used in real battle. It felt like a stick compared to the heavy iron of ones she’d used in skirmishes the academy had sent her out on in the past. But it would do. And it would be perfect to help her learn Cordelia’s style.
“I should probably try to make it work on the ground first though, before I attempt anything new in the air.”

She didn't hit the ground too hard, so she wasn't hurt, but she defintely was shaken. Pushing herself up on her arms, Cordelia looked up as the person she had almost crashed into- Oh Naga, it was one of her classmates -asked her if she was alright. Accepting the hand, coincedentally with a mirrored mark of Fire, Cordelia got up.
"Thank-you," she murmured apologetically. "I am alright, and I'm sorry about that. Flying with wings isn't as easy as my pegasus makes it look."
As she spoke, flowers bloomed on vine necklaces, making her gasp in surprise when she noticed. "Oh, how beautiful...!"
[ Fairy Wings ] - shimmer and dazzle in your new boutique threads! And what’s this… it seems they’ve some interesting accessories to choose from as well, the likes of which may be more functional than you initially thought. Soar!
They had looked pretty. That was why she accepted the accessory. Just pretty fairy wing accessories, worn on her back, sitting nicely with a colour that matched her dress. She hadn't expected them to be actual wings that worked. It was a complete accident that she was now in the air, failing quite dramatically at flying. This wasn't as easy as it was on her pegasus!!! "Aaaaaaa!!!" Oh no, now she was falling. "Look out!! I'm so sorry!!"
Loud, incessant shouting is hard to miss—even when it’s not Caspar. As such, Linhardt turns his head in time to spot the other (they're classmates, aren’t they?) practically falling out of the sky, and with a few careful but calculated flaps of his own wings—
Yeesh, that was close.
—she misses him completely, and he gently falls to the ground, pausing before realizing he should probably see if she’s okay. That’s a pretty basic courtesy to give someone after all.
Stepping forward, he asks, “Are you alright?” (Another moment passes before he thinks to offer a hand—conveniently the one marked with Earth—to help her up.)
“I don’t know how high up you fell from, but that doesn’t look like it didn’t hurt.”

Oberon Dark. An eccentric man, Cordelia decided, but not a bad man. A smile had to flitter onto her face as the flowers were formed on their vine necklaces. Fire and water... Looking up again when the man spoke, Cordelia was almost sure she couldn't follow what he was saying, but there was.... a meaning in the words that she might understand if she pondered them for a while?
She wasn't sure how to reply, and it seemed that Oberon didn't expect a reply either as he turns away, before he stopped and added more. Clearer advice perhaps? Her smile widened. "Thank-you," she hummed. "I will keep that in mind. I hope you enjoy the ball."
Curtseying, and then waving her farewell, Cordelia slipped away into the crowd. An eccentric man, that Oberon Dark, but not a bad man.

So focused on running and getting away from the plants literally trying chase after them, Cordelia didn't really notice her necklace bloom with the violet lightning flower. Her mind was begging her feet to not trip. There was a reason she had become a pegasus knight afterall! Right now was trying to get herself and Nanna to safety. Non-important magical occurances later!
That the plant was alive was terrifying, but when they both paused behind the willow tree, seeing the eyes was like a nightmare. Cordelia stumbled back as Nanna tugged her away. Thinking quickly, she picked up a sturdy looking branch which she prayed to Naga wouldn't come alive- branches were already dead right?! -and brandished it in front of her like an improvised weapon. Standing in front of her fellow student, she waved the branch at the living plant growth.
"Stay back!!" she shouted at the plants, before glancing back at Nanna. "Are you alright? I think we should try find the exit..."
The woman's fiery red skirts fluttered behind her, gilded ends flapping against Nanna's legs as they bolted off in the opposite direction. Oddly, as their hands clasped together, the vines around her collar blossomed, a scarlet Fire flower in exchange for a violet Lightning one. "Did you mean to-" The ground was beginning to crumble beneath them, as the roots began to crack through the surface in a motion to ensnare them. Or... was it trying to move from its stationary position!?
"Right!" Nanna raced behind her, noting her admirable call to action. She must have been some kind of captain back home, since the fervor in each step spoke miles about her capabilities. Leaping over a jutting root, some stray dirt sprayed up like a storm. Pressing her hand to her mouth to silence her breathing, the plant struck its head in their direction—voracious and readily on the prowl.
As the both of them ducked behind a dark willow tree, Nanna leaned her hand for a brief respite. That is, until the bark below her hand fluttered open in slits, as dozens of eyes fluttered open to stare at her. Screaming silently, she skid back, pulling the stranger with her. "They're alive...! The whole forest is...--"

"Not that long at all actually," Cordelia replied, watching the plants around suspiciously. "But... I assume it is quite far from the usual."
Because in what world would such strange phenomena be common? Not Ylisse, that was one thing Cordelia could say for certain. She certainly agreed with Nanna, as the princess introduced herself. The flowers were beautiful at leas-! She was pulled down and she could both feel the breath of air as the flower tried to eat them.
"Heavens forfend," she gasped, noticing the roots below them. "Get back!!" She grabbed Nanna's arm and pulled her forward a few steps to escape the roots as well. Of all the times to be caught without her lance on hand. "Quick, this way!"
Changing her grip so that she was holding Nanna's hand instead, Cordelia pulled the princess after her, running to find either escape or somewhere to hide.

"...Careful now, it may serve us better to stick together while we're out here." Nanna had wandered off a little too far from the ballroom, unsure if she would be sent straight back through magical means. Her journey had lead her beneath a strange, effervescent flower, that curled in the direction of the moon. It began to blossom in the dark. "...Oh! How, quaint!"

Now, she wasn't sure what it was... but there was something about these plants that made Cordelia's skin prickle. It was pretty though, in an almost... otherworldly way, she supposed. She had stumbled this way after taking one too many wrong turns and run into Nanna along the way. "An... odd example of flora," she commented, she shrunk away from it slightly. "Sticking together would be best, yes."
"Have you been at the academy for long? I assume this isn't the typical..." The flower gradually grew in size, drinking up the moonlight and taking its energy as its own. "Affair." It beamed in the dark, giving off an glow that appeared otherworldly. She wondered if it was normal to deal with winged folk, transient spirit gods, and sentient insects every other month.
"At least, even when you're down to the size of a thumbtack, flowers remain shrouded in beauty." She smiled, parting a leaf that was slowly growing overhead, feeding into the moon. "My name is Princess Nanna, it is a ple--"
There was a chill that sparked in her blood, forcing her to jerk the scarlet-haired stranger down. A far larger flower, dappled in brown and bright green stripes, had bitten off the glowing blue flower they had only just been acquainted with. By the lick of a hair, they scarcely missed having their heads chewed off. Below, the roots of the plants began to erupt beneath their feet. "Agh!"

"Hey! Aren't you Sev-" Owain cuts himself off, realizing a moment too late that it isn't his place to reveal his friend's deepest secret, "-vvvering your... Fate? Yes! A-Aren't you here to sever the ties of destiny, set free your mortal soul and glide upon the wind...? Here in this garden?"
"Look, just, uh--stick out your hand. I'm kind of a big deal where I'm from, so you'll want my mark."
There was a pause, and then a slow owlish blink from Cordelia as she tried to understand what this man in front of her had said. She took a step backwards in surprise. Was she what the who the why now? "Uhhh.... sure?" she asked uncertainly. "It is a pleasure to meet you...?" She held out her hand with all the hesitancy of someone reaching out to touch a cactus, or a wild beast, not sure if he was about to do something far more eccentric than already witnessed.

Sweet Bun Trio- Instead of finding herself holding one sweet bun, a trio assortment had found its way into the princess's hands. To decline the offering would be ill-mannered, but to partake in them all by herself would be just as much of a missed opportunity.
Holding them delicately in her hands, Céline turned to her left. "Would you like one?" She extended a hand forward, offering Cordelia the opportunity to view the assortment. "There are a multitude to choose from— You are welcome to pick the one you would find most delight in. I simply could not have all of these by myself."
"Oh, thank-you," Cordelia hummed, happy to inspect the sweet buns being offered to her. "They all look so good too..." With much thought, taking into account the potential flavours of each bun, the red head reached out to pick up the chosen sweet from Céline's hands, accidentally brushing her own hand against the other's palm as she did so. Fire and earth met for a moment and the vine necklaces seemed satisfied, new flower's forming to Cordelia's surprise. "Ah, and an extra gift from our patrons too it seems," she noted, smiling. She looked at Céline, holding the bun she had picked up in a gesture of thanks. "Thank-you for sharing your sweets."
