"so then i die trying," octavia whispered harshly. the odds stacked high against her simply do not matter. all that matters is locating stryker and making him wish he were dead, just like he did to her for over a year. the only thing that matters equally as much is ensuring alec's survival. after the year together, enduring all they've endured together, he deserves to survive. deserves to make his way back to kassy. if, in the end, after stryker is dead and alec is reunited with kassy, octavia is still alive— sure, she'd like to find her big brother. would nearly die to see a glimpse of trinity. to hear her voice and see her cheeks blush pink. but if she died while taking stryker down with her? it might be better that way. better that trinity and her brother never have to know the monster she's become.

octavia lowered her hands from the makeshift target with grant's extra gun in her hand, directing her attention toward him instead of focusing on his weapon's lesson. to his displeased look, octavia simply shrugged, switching the safety on the gun. "listen to me, there's something very important you need to understand here. i don't care what happens, what we come up against, whatever is out there waiting to slaughter us or try to use us for what we can do...i am going to kill the head of their mutant division." her grave tone left her lips almost casually as she spoke of murdering stryker in cold blood. that is, until the thought of hydra or anyone harming alec ever again bubbles to the forefront. "but alec lives." she warns.

for much of the time they've spent together since grant pulled them out of the hydra facility, octavia has kept a decent distance between them. they both seem to prefer it that way. he hasn't trusted her touch, and she struggles to trust anyone beyond alec. but quietly and cautiously, octavia steps toward him, closing their distance. alec might be able to eventually move past their time in the facility with kassy. with the soul he has, she believes despite all the experiments and torture, he's still alive inside. that unlike her, he has a chance to bring good into the world still. emerald hues lift to grant, "i need you to promise me that as long as you're with us...you protect alec over me, if anything happens...you save alec. he deserves to live, okay? he deserves that, so you have to promise me."
