Hawk needed Tim to complete him.
To everyone thinking had Hawk been open to Lucy about Tim she would have accepted them. You are wrong.
She turned a blind eye to the fact Hawk was gay because to her it was just sex with faceless/nameless men.
Tim wasn't that. He was the man Hawk Loved.
In the 60s when she got to know Hawk helped Tim hide from the FBI she realized in front of Tim hawk's priorities waver. Tim was a threat to her importance in Hawk's life. She couldn't turn a blind eye to Tim and made it clear she wanted him gone from their life.
In the 70s when Tim called her she realised further more that the person her husband calls to find solace is this man. She hadn't ever seen them interact in front of her eyes. Had she she would have realised the hold Tim had on Hawk a lot sooner.
Lucy mentions herself how it has always been a competition. How she was never rid of Tim. She didn't realise till the 80s how important Tim was for hawk. Had she, she would have left hawk sooner. Tim being in their life and her accepting was never an option.
She finally realised she was fighting for affections in the wrong place that Tim was imprinted on her Husband's soul. Years apart couldn't rid Hawk's soul of Tim and not even death will be able to do that.

I haven't seen anything more tender, soft & screaming Love than this.
If given a chance they would have been that obnoxiously in love, super sweet couple who can't keep their hands off eachother..at 63 Hawk carried Tim in his arms up the stairs.
