||  @sncwshenanigans​  .       waddling egg is picked up by a toddler who tries to put it in his mouth  ---  and fails .  why ?  because he froze it into a small block of ice on accident .  frustrated ,  jack starts to gnaw on it .  as one might have expected ,  it doesn't help & solve the problem .

      “  ah ,  here ya are -  “  is said from behind the toddler ,  picking him up with ease .  “  don’ run off like tha’ ,  ‘kay ?  “  aster says ,  watching the small block of ice on his hands ,  sighing a little too .  jack just had to have his hands on everything ,  didn’t he ?  what a shame ,  made his work as both the easter bunny & babysitter at least for the time being a little bit more complicated .  “  now ,  did ya forge’ already ?  i told ya -  no botherin’ the eggs .  “

The feeling those words give him in his chest is hard to describe. Something akin to when Jamie saw him for the first time… And when he officially joined the Guardians. It’s… Far from unpleasant. But it does make him tear up a little bit. “–Do you promise?” Jack’s voice is shaking ever so slightly, muffled by his knees as he curls up completely. “Do you promise it wont change?” A small request for confirmation. Confirmation that what he just heard, what he needed to hear, was the honest truth. Of course he believes his friend– but there’s a need for certainty.

Only silence comes from the boy as he listens to Aster talk about his past. Dinner? Was he hunted many years ago? He supposes he shouldn’t be too surprised. Bunnies are hunted often– and he has never seen one as tall as the fellow Guardian. How odd. Is he this tall because of magic? More importantly, has Man in the Moon done anything to help? Impossible. The guy isn’t like that. All he does is just watch and not respond to anything.

Knowing that he’s not the only one who has struggled with, and is still struggling with, loneliness is comforting in its own special way. He wonders if the other Guardians have had to deal with something like it too.

Jack raises his head just a little bit to look at Aster, eyes temporarily caught by the boomerang before finally resting on him. “That must have been terrifying.” Alone for the sake of survival. “I’m… Happy you’re not dead.” While they may not always get along, he genuinely appreciates his presence. 

      a promise  ---  that’s what jack is asking for .  could he give him one ,  without hurting him in the future ?  he wasn’t sure .  after all ,  look at what had happened right before pitch had attacked his eggs ,  effectively ruining easter that year .  but even through all of the thoughts that were running in his head ,  making him dizzy almost ,  he looked at the forever teenager .  “  i promise .  “  at first ,  it felt wrong to say it  ---  once more ,  aster doesn’t know the future ahead of them ,  anything could happen .  but even with that in mind ,  at the end ,  it felt right to say it ,  if it meant giving jack hope .  that’s what he was all about ,  you know ?

      a dry chuckles leaves him ,  not able to shut his mouth on time .  usually that’s how it went ,  either way .  “  yeah ,  i’m happy too ,  kiddo .  “  he starts ,  before shrugging .  “  no’ the wors’ i wen’ through ,  though .  “  the pooka admits ,  placing the boomerang back in it’s place ,  and even though he had just sat down he got up ,  stretching his legs a little .

      “  listen ,  jack . yer no’ alone on this type of thin’s ,  ya know ?  everyone here . . .  we all wen’ through somethin’ ,  & even if differen’ we understand .  “  don’t be afraid to ask for help ,  he would have added had he not known better .  this would take time ,  he was sure of it .  “  . . .  i’m goin’ ta grab me some wine ,  wan’ some or ya don’ drink ?  “  he needed to ignore some of the things he was thinking .

The gentleness is nice– comforting in a way. It’s a little odd coming from Aster, who usually sounds so serious and grumpy. Was Jack feeling better, he probably would’ve teased him. But instead the spirit just listens. His words surprise him. The Guardians have been, well, the Guardians for as long as he can remember. For some strange reason he thought they had always been this way– always had each other. Of course each of them has a past he does not know about.

Jack lifts a finger just a little bit to make a miniature snowman on the floor. It starts melting within seconds because of the warmth of North’s home. He watches it quietly for a few seconds before giving a reponse. “What did you do to help yourself feel more at ease…?” A difficult question but something he’s genuinely curious about. “I finally have what I’ve wanted for so long…  But it’s so difficult to get used to and not get overwhelmed and… Not be afraid.”

“I only am where I am now because my help was needed.” Before becoming a Guardian he had been doing exactly what he does now– bringing winter and snow and fun. Suddenly he apparently had something useful against Pitch and here he is. “What do I do when all of that suddenly changes and everything disappears and I lose you guys…  and am alone again? Part of me feels like that’s how things are supposed to be but I don’t want that.” Small pause as he curls up just a little. “I don’t want things to go back to the way they were.”

      tough questions they were ,  aster’s ears coming to rest on his head at the sudden tension he feels on his own shoulders .  & his comments ,  how much bunnymund wanted to yell at manny mim for the things he made the other go through ,  for the things he went through himself .  he was saved by him ,  that part was true ,  but then he had to save himself .  “  tha’ ain’ changin’ ,  mate .  “  he starts ,  sitting down beside him .  “  sure ,  ya can be a pain in the ass bu’ hey ,  yer our pain in the ass .  yer par’ of our lil’ messed up fam ,  ya see ?  “

      “  . . .  i’ was tough ,  no’ gonna lie ta ya there .  i’s still is . . .  “  oh ,  memories kept creeping back ,  & ever so carefully did the pooka brush them off ,  like they were nothing more than simple nightmares .  “  i’ ge’ easier over time ,  bu’ i understand wha’cha mean when ya say yer feelin’ over whelmed .  i fel’ like tha’ ,  too -  too much happened back then .  “

      he hums a little ,  his boomerang moving swiftly in his paw as he couldn’t even look at jack straight in the eye ,  instead now alternating between his weapon & the pool of water that was once that snowman .  “  fer me . . .  i hated the loneliness i fel’ ,  ye’ i’ was better than . . .  than endin’ up bein’ someone’s dinner .  “  straightforward like that ,  after all that’s how usually bunnymund was ,  right ?  “  before i became a guardian ,  everyone could see me .  after all ,  i’m no’ dead .  “  everyone had their unique backstories ,  that was just a small part of his .

             A chime & laugh mix into the air from the mythical being. But the laugh is cut short with a frown. No sir. This isn’t a choice. You have been awake for far too long and you, just like all the other guardians, need your REST ! At least, those were the thoughts coursing through Sanderson’s mind when he pouts and crosses his arms. He lands on the ground tapping his foot impatiently while staring up at the large rabbit.

He creates what seems to be a bed out of sand and makes the carrot disappear. He gestures to it with a swift curt motion, two hands pointing towards it.

      oh no  ---  the moment the smile swiftly disappears ,  aster knows he done . . .  fucked up ,  there was no other word for it just don’t let tooth hear it okay ? .  “  sandy ,  le’s talk ‘bou’ this ,  ‘kay ?  “  he backs away from the bed of sand ,  & while he did know he needed sleep ,  he pretty much refused it at this point .  that’s not good for someone who is still technically alive ,  you know ?

      “  i don’ need sleep -  “  a lie .  “  we both have much better thin’s ta do ,  c’mon -  “  he backs away a little more ,  before sprinting .  he could find a place to hid in his own warren ,  right ?

||  @sncwshenanigans​  //  accepting  .       jack would not handle bunny's death well .  he'd isolate ,  avoid the other guardians .  the spirit would search for a way to bring him back somehow ,  ask the man in the moon despite hating that guy ,  hoping that Bunny can come back just like himself & Sandman .  meanwhile something tells him that this is another reminder that guardians can die & him ending up all alone again is possible .  but then he sees a ghost & oh wait .  could it be possible that -  ??

      let’s think about it this way . . .  at least he will get to be with his family again .
