kep was very sus about fenris the first few times they met, because he thinks fenris is Too Large and Too Fast to be trusted, but he finally got some courage and actually started playing with him yesterday and it turns out he is very fun to chase
Rally: RN, but the last couple times he's been in a ring I've seen his enthusiasm fade off sharply. Not entering anything more until I get this sorted. (I don't think it's lack of rewards, because it turned up in class too. I think one or both of us is getting ring nerves and it's passing up and down the leash.)
NACSW: NW2, actively entering every NW3 I can find. Now have a spreadsheet for keeping track of this. Next one we're for sure into is June 2. Also keeping eyes open for level 1 elements searches but those aren't super common.
AKC Scentwork: 1 leg each towards novice E, B, and C. Two trials this weekend. 2nd priority after NACSW.
FCAT/CAT: Has his entry level in both. Not bothering to do more UNLESS also entering baby in which case he may as well come along and run.
K'seil:
Rally/Obedience: Skillz work only. Do we think by October I'll be in a place where zero2cd sounds sensible?
Agility: Flatwork only. I am currently getting bullied into working both sides for real instead of 90% on my left.
Nosework: We'll probably be ready for an ORT after her first birthday. Stalking the NACSW website for this. About the same time I want to start kicking her into AKC SW trials*.
FCAT/CAT: Eligible in July! I don't want to do BIG LONG drives for these tho so somewhat limited, and all of the CATs are in spring/early summer??? Gimmie something in September I'm begging u.
CGC: Honestly I just need to buckle down and do some of the skills & make sure she can greet people politely (IMpolitely is fine, lol).
*since I can enter them both in AKC trials on the same day (and frankly this also applies to the lure coursing), ideally this won't happen until Hazard is a-okay with chilling in the car while babies go play. Atm he's not fine with chilling in the car when I leave even if babies stay so we've got work to do.
I’m almost through the A breeds, there’s three left, I can sense, progress.
I’ve missed three days so far in these first 20. I try and not skip too often but my main goal really is to also not burn myself out and get through them all.
i mean this in an entirely platonic, slightly powerhungry way, but i love when people call me the friendly "boss." like "you got is boss" or "whatever ya say, boss." it's so fun. like we're in the worlds shittiest cartoon mafia
it’s getting very popular to talk about emotional states in dog training (which is great, dogblr has been miles ahead of other social media for years) and how those emotional states impact the dog’s ability to learn and perform. those conversations are generally good and on track.
the weird ones are conversations about how the dog’s emotions impact our relationship with them—and one of the reasons that they’re weird to me is because it seems like a given that how someone feels about you is directly related to your relationship. the other reason is that some folks are still trying to handle relationship-building like an equation.
not to condescend or oversimplify, but your dog should just be your friend.
we did train every day last week i just did not remember to post about it. so we continue on this.
anyway shoutout to k'seil's friday:
40 min walk with hazard where she was largely problem-less
sat in car quietly for an hour while i worked with a client
then met the human half of the client with FOUR FEET ON THE GROUND U GO BABY
took her to work on the impression that she would be in the car for 2 hrs while i ran puppy play and nosework class, so ran her stupid in the field with a chuckit and some work on cues for 20 min
THEN one of the puppies cancelled so she subbed in and let a 17 week parson russell beat her up for 30 min
then my nosework students bullied me into running her as well
so she did 2 runs of 3 searches each, on birch--not first time on the odor but first time in that room, and because all of the students in that class are reasonably advanced, in a complicated search area as well, where i was demoing handling skills and so expressly not supporting her--and fucking nailed them all
Keps sleeping quietly behind me in my office when suddenly he jumps up and starts barking furiously into my kitchen so I was immediately startled and looked to see what the problem was. behold:
