Six Ways Twitter Destroyed My Thailand Travel Without Me Noticing
Travellers may be exposed during activities such as wading, swimming, bathing or washing clothes in freshwater streams, rivers or lakes. Schistosoma larvae are released from infected freshwater snails and can penetrate intact human skin following contact with contaminated freshwater. There is no risk of malaria in the cities of Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Koh Phangan, Koh Samui, and Pattaya: bite avoidance recommended. Those at higher risk of malaria, or of severe complications from malaria, include pregnant women, infants and young children, the elderly, travellers who do not have a functioning spleen and those visiting friends and relatives. Prompt diagnosis and treatment is required as people with malaria can deteriorate quickly. Those at risk during their work (such as healthcare workers) should take appropriate infection control precautions. Travellers on shorter trips (typically less than a month), or trips that take place outside the peak transmission season and those who restrict their visits to urban areas are usually considered to be at very low risk. A sterile medical equipment kit may be helpful when travelling to resource poor areas. Mothers with the virus can also transmit the infection to their baby during childbirth. This mostly occurs during sexual contact or as a result of blood-to-blood contact (for example from contaminated equipment during medical and dental procedures, tattooing or body piercing procedures, and sharing of intravenous needles). Hepatitis B is a viral infection; it is transmitted by exposure to infected blood or body fluids. Previous typhoid illness may only partially protect against re-infection. Typhoid is a bacterial infection transmitted through contaminated food and water. Country specific information on medical facilities may be found in the ‘health' section of the FCO foreign travel advice website. A list of useful resources including advice on how to reduce the risk of certain health problems is available below. These may for example include road traffic and other accidents, diseases transmitted by insects or ticks, diseases transmitted by contaminated food and water, sexually transmitted infections, or health issues related to the heat or cold. While most travellers have a healthy and safe trip, there are some risks that are relevant to travellers regardless of destination. For those with pre-existing health problems, an earlier appointment is recommended. This appointment provides an opportunity to assess health risks taking into account a number of factors including destination, medical history, and planned activities. However, even if time is short, an appointment is still worthwhile. Travellers should ideally arrange an appointment with their health professional at least four to six weeks before travel. Large enough packages provide complimentary unlimited access to the DTAC Wi-Fi network available in some urban areas. Credit refill is available in 7-Eleven and FamilyMart convenience stores in addition to DTAC shops, as well as on DTAC web pages using credit cards. The codes can be found on the Web or Hotel in Thailand leaflets available in DTAC shops. DTAC Happy Internet packages can be ordered using phone key codes as long as you have sufficient credit in your SIM.

7 Things To Demystify Thailand Travel
The vast majority have three wheels; some are entirely purpose-built (eg the ubiquitous Bangkok tuk-tuk), others are partially based on motorcycle components (primarily engines, steering, front suspension, fuel tank, drivers seat). The name tuk-tuk is used to describe a wide variety of small/lightweight vehicles. 3rd class trains are slow and not convenient for long distances, but give a distinct feeling of traveling by a classic train. In September 2014 Thai Smile moved a number of its flights to Don Mueang Airport. Although fares can hardly be considered to be 'budget orientated', they are a little bit cheaper than the parent company and worth considering since they fly from the main international terminal at Suvarnabhumi Airport. Thai Smile is Thai Airway's answer to the threat to its business posed by the various budget airlines which have mushroomed in Thailand - a premium budget airline, if that is not an oxymoron. On-line booking is straightforward and can be done even using the mobile phone, but must be done at least twenty-four hours in advance; ticket sales at the check-in desk close one hour before the departure time. They fly A320s from Bangkok to a number of places domestically, as well as cities across Southeast Asia and China. Asian low cost carrier AirAsia has coverage of international and domestic routes Hotel in Thailand Thailand and offers discounted tickets if booked well in advance; however, prices rise steadily as planes fill up. It's sometimes even cheaper than bus or train, if booked at least a week or two in advance. If entering without a visa, maximum stay is 3 days / 2 nights, travel beyond Kawthoung is not permitted, and there's an entry stamp fee: USD10 if paid in dollars, more (500 baht) if paid with Thai currency. Ranong / Kawthoung - foreigners can access this crossing from either side, and enter and/or exit either country here; no onward travel restrictions (other than those that apply to everyone, no matter how they enter); access to/from Kawthoung is by sea ( Mergui / Dawei & Yangon ) and air (Mergui & Yangon). However, as of November 25, 2008, this crossing is temporarily closed. Three Pagodas Pass ( Sangkhlaburi / Payathonzu ) - foreigners can only access this crossing from the Thai side; onward travel into Myanmar (ie beyond the border town) is not possible; entry/exit stamps are NOT issued here, and foreigners passports are held at the Myanmar checkpoint, where a fee is levied: USD10 if paid in dollars, more (500 baht) if paid with Thai currency. No visa is needed; instead there's an entry stamp fee: USD10 if paid in dollars, more (500 baht) if paid with Thai currency. Mae Sot / Myawaddy - This border crossing was closed in July 2010 and re-opened on 5 December 2011 When open, foreigners can only access this crossing from the Thai side; neither onward travel into Myanmar (ie beyond the Burmese border town of Myawaddy) nor overnight stays are possible. Mae Sai / Tachileik - foreigners can access this crossing from either side, and enter and/or exit either country here; onward travel restrictions: since Oct 2009, onward travel by land to Kengtung is only possible if accompanied by an official guide (1,000 baht/day + expenses), exiting Myanmar at Tachilek is only possible for those who entered at this border crossing and were issued a 14-day entry permit; to get to Tachileik or Kengtung from the rest of Myanmar, a domestic flight must be taken (eg from Heho ).

Master The Art Of Thailand Travel With These Ten Tips
You will either love or hate train Travel to Thailand in Thailand. There are plenty of karaoke spots around Sukhumvit 55 and all its many subsois - ranging from big, obvious places like Woodball to tiny hole-in-the-wall places with no English name. Thonglor is at the heart of Bangkok's Japanese district, and if there's one thing other than sushi that the Japanese do well, it's karaoke. Beloved by both adults and children, this activity will get your heart rate up while allowing you unparalleled views over Chiang Mai. The course is comprised of 17 ziplines, the longest being 600-metres long, with 32 stations, and a number of sky bridges, climbing nets, Tarzan jumps, abseils and a slider to round off with. This zipline is located over 1,000 metres above sea level amidst the rolling hills and evergreen forest of northern Thailand. Lipe Art Garden is the creative focus, which offers classes and the chance to make your own batik alongside its very own gallery. Koh Lipe is best known for its beautifully serene beaches and excellent opportunities for diving, but the island also has a flourishing art scene. If you head there at the weekend, you can catch the brilliant Bang Nam Pheung Floating Market. The best way to explore is by bike, which you can rent for a small daily fee once you arrive on the island. This is a small, artificial island that is subject to strict development laws so there's no skyscrapers, no shopping malls and no condos - just Thailand. Not too far from central Bangkok is the city's ‘green lung' - otherwise known as Bang Krachao. Huge numbers of people make ceremonial offerings all day and night at the shrine while Thai classical dancers and musicians entertain the crowds. But there's so much more to it than that: the shrine, at the corner of the busy Ratchaprasong intersection, is technically Brahman, although is worshipped by Buddhists, Hindus and other religions alike. If you're from outside of Thailand, chances are that the only thing you've heard about the Erawan Shrine is that it was bombed in August 2015. It was created by local artist Thawan Duchanee and is distinctly unsettling - animal skins and skeletons are in liberal use - although the artistic and philosophical merit is apparent. Also known as The Black House, Baan Dam is a natural adversary to the White Temple; it is both dark in aesthetic and in spirit, exploring the shady side of humanity through art and architecture. Symbolism is rife throughout the complex with huge inferences to Buddhism and Hinduism; there's a bridge of ‘the cycle of rebirth', the ‘gate of heaven' and an abundance of naga imagery. Although not yet completed, you can still visit Wat Rong Khun and entry is free. Otherwise known as the White Temple, Wat Rong Khun is a beautiful, contemporary art exhibit, created and constructed by Chalermchai Kositpipat as an offering to Lord Buddha. Artefacts found in its uncovering date back as far as the 8th century.

Apply These 7 Secret Techniques To Improve Thailand Travel
Over eight stories the 2000 shops and restaurants pull in many local residents and tourists with their variety of stock and cheap prices. Mahboonkrong is a business and shopping hub in central Bangkok. Ask locally to find your nearest class. Take a class on how to give those back slapping, thigh cracking, neck crunching manoeuvres. Make like the little ladies and learn the tricks of the trade. The sapphire and rubies mined from nearby today are not as valuable as they once were but still the local tradesmen source out fine jewels and continue to showcase them for tourists. On the weekends, the streets in Chanthauri are crammed with vendors examining small stones under magnifying glasses like a scene from Aladdin. Years ago the locals built it up as a place to exercise and while the weights are rusting and the machines are creaking you can still get fit and enjoy the pretty park views. In Lumpini's Park you can work out for free in this random outdoor gym. Keeping fit may not be on the top of the travel agenda but after all those banana pancakes a few bench presses wouldn't go amiss. You can catch a cable car up to the top or make like the monks and climb the 309 steps. In the city the temple's gold chedi, or rooftop, can be seen for miles making it a landmark. Atop the mountain lies the city's most famous temple, Wat Phratet. Doi Suthep is a mountain that overlooks the city of Chiang Mai to the north. Grab your new friends and get shaking your stuff at Green Mango until the wee hours. This R'n'B funkhouse is a great place to get your groove on. Located right in Koh Samui's city centre it's easy to get to and promises a great night. Located just opposite the Grand Palace it's easy to get to and one to be crossed off the list. The golden statue is 43 meter long so pretty impressive. Wat Phra Chettuphon Wimon Mangkhlaram Ratchaworamahawihan, or The Temple of the Reclining Buddha as it's more commonly known, does what it says - it is the resting place for the reclining Buddha. After all, if Leo DiCaprio's been there then it's good enough for us. The kilometre long stretch offers a continuous overlap of bars, hostels, travel agents, clubs, restaurants and massage parlours all crying out for backpackers to take advantage of their low prices. Described in ‘The Beach' as the ‘backpacking centre of the universe' it'd be criminal not to pay Khao San Road a visit. There's so much to do there, you could easily spend a year getting to know the country's intricacies and quirks. Thailand Hotel is pretty much the most popular gap year destination in the world, and for good reason. From holiday deals and great new resorts to all the latest news from the exciting world of travel, leave your details and we'll make sure you're always in the loop!

Six Steps To Thailand Travel Of Your Dreams
This innocent student stopped going to school and was putting on weight very quickly. Within a month things changed pretty rapidly. He was a JR in High School and weighed about 120 pounds when he came over. We were told he was kind and a hard worker. When I was in High School, my family decided to house a foreign exchange student named, ‘Pocktee'. Thailand scared me a bit and I think it was from the foreign exchange student we had in our house when I was growing up. We decided to use Pomelo Travel to book it all for us as we had no clue what to do or where to go. I'm pretty adventurous, but I'm not going to lie. At the end of our trip to China , I had the opportunity to travel over to Chiang Mai, Thailand with Brandi and Teisha. See Wanderlust's Trip Finder for Thailand tours with top travel operators. Craving a Thai adventure of your own? In Northern Thailand, stroll the streets of Chiang Mai Night Bazaar, daily from 6pm; Wualai Walking Street Saturday Market, from 2pm. You'll also find UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and superb hiking and biking trails in plenty of spots. Thailand boasts diverse landscapes, and its national parks are renowned for their beauty and scale. Take a look at our guide to hill trekking in Thailand to find out how to meet the locals on the most colourful tribal treks the country has to offer. You'll find market stalls, Buddha and elephant statues, and plenty of signage to confirm that, yes, this is the Golden Triangle. Stand on the Thailand river bank, and you can look across to Burma /Myanmar and Laos , or hire a boat for a closer look. Make sure you follow our 7 etiquette tips for travelling in Thailand Travel , to ensure you don't offend local customs. Another must see is Wat Arun, the Temple of Dawn, which is stunning from a distance and intriguing close up, with its mosaic detailing, as you climb to the top. While you're there, don't miss the Emerald Buddha and nearby Wat Pho, which is home to the largest reclining Buddha in Thailand. There are also several dances that take place here. If you want a mostly free experience, learn about the history before you visit. You will have to get the hang of it if you don't want to end up in the water, but it's a great thing to do there. The market at Chiang Mai in particular is a great place to head as you can get some great bargain deals there. It was one of my favorite places to travel to. Thanks for the kudos and I hope you make it to Chiang Mai one day. I really hope to make it there someday but I am not sure I will be eating a preserved egg!! What a great list of things to do in Thailand.

End the day with a tuk tuk ride to Waroros Market to join the bustle of locals as they buy their fresh food and spices. See the old trader community of Wat Gatekaram, markets, temples and a vast array of unique 'street life'. This one day tour will take you to Chiang Mai's most popular sites but will also give you a true flavor of daily life in the city. Long Beach is another nice spot on the island; it's not a secluded place, but is great for watching the sunset. If you leave them unguarded, the monkeys will brazenly dig Hotel in Thailand and chow down right in front of you. There's also a small stand where you can buy snacks and fruit shakes, but hang onto your treats. You can hire a guide to take you out on a small wooden boat or rent your own kayak. One of the fun spots on Koh Phi Phi is Monkey Beach, where you'll come face-to-face, literally, with the namesake creatures. Only Phi Phi Don is inhabited, with day trips available to the surrounding islands. The Phi Phi Islands, also in Krabi, are one of Thailand's most popular resort areas for a reason. There's also the tourist-friendly Diamond Cave, with a convenient walkway to accommodate curious visitors looking to do some exploring between stretches of sunbathing. The beaches are the main reason to visit Railay, but it's also a rock-climbing hotspot. When it comes to beaches, there are plenty to choose from: Phuket, with its sweeping bays and sophisticated tourist scene and Krabi with its spectacular limestone cliffs are just two popular resort destinations. West of Bangkok is Kanchanaburi, the mountainous region bordering Myanmar, which offers rustic adventure and a history lesson on the River Kwai and its infamous railway. Head north to the ancient cities of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai to encounter jungle-clad mountains, indigenous hill-tribe culture and flourishing art scenes. Bangkok is usually the first port of call, after which it's easy to escape to the countryside or a tropical island. Capped by the 2,565-meter peak of Doi Inthanon - Thailand's tallest - it's a lush expanse of waterfalls, trekking trails, campgrounds and hill tribe villages. As one of Thailand's most popular provinces for tourists, Chiang Mai has plenty of great attractions but one of the best has to be Doi Inthanon National Park.

Six Most Well Guarded Secrets About Thailand Travel
The following is a guide to border crossing procedures at the Bukit Kayu Hitam / Sadao border crossing point. The key to this is leaving EARLY (7 a.m.) since border crossing formalities can take up to 2.5 hours, particularly on holiday weekends. If you are driving, then depending on whether your starting point is Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or Penang, you can expect to make it to Hat Yai, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Krabi / Phuket / Ko Samui respectively on the same day. An alternative is to head to Hatlek/ Cham Yeam towards Koh Kong ; that crossing is quiet and honest with good communication links. The Thai side is glacial: travellers queue (outdoors in the heat) to reach a queue (in the Immigration building) - typically two and one hours, respectively. The Cambodian side is merely slow. The border crossing at Poipet remains the stuff of nightmares, however. The national carrier is the well-regarded Thai Airways , with Bangkok Airways filling in some gaps in the nearby region. International airports are also located at Hat Yai , Krabi , Ko Samui and Chiang Mai , though these largely restricted to flights from other Southeast Asian countries. Perhaps the most famous spirit house in Thailand Travel is the Erawan Shrine in Bangkok , which protects the Erawan Hotel (now the Grand Hyatt Erawan) - built in 1956 on a former execution ground - and is now one of the busiest and most popular shrines in the city. After a string of military dictatorships and quickly toppled civilian Prime Ministers, Thailand finally stabilized into a fair approximation of a democracy and the economy boomed through tourism and industry. In alliance with Japan during World War II, Thailand became a US ally following the conflict. During World War II, while Japan conquered the rest of Southeast Asia, only Thailand was not conquered by the Japanese due to smart political moves. Known as Siam until 1939, Thailand is the only Southeast Asian country never to have been colonised by a foreign power, and is fiercely proud of that fact. Instead of buying 1.5 L or 6 L water containers from Tesco, FamilyMart, or 7-Eleven, and throwing away the empty plastic bottles when finished, save them and refill them with filtered water. If you're spending more than a few days in one town, keep an eye out for filtered water dispensers. Big families or large groups of friends should consider renting out a villa in Phuket Everyday travelers can find a guesthouse in Krabi using Agoda or a house in Chiang Mai with AirBnB Definitely explore these options. Budget travelers should try CouchSurfing in Bangkok. Stick with the nearest landmark instead. The downside is that Thai street names are often difficult to pronounce or have too many syllables to easily remember without consulting a map. For example, Chulalongkorn Road Soi 42 (spoken: tanon chulalongkorn soi see-sip-song). This usually comprises of a road (tanon) and a small alley (soi).

Warning: These 4 Mistakes Will Destroy Your Thailand Travel
On this day, Thai Buddhists visit a temple to make merit in the morning and listen to sermons (Dhamma) by monks. Wisakha Bucha Day is recognized as the most important day Top travel in Thailand Buddhism and also recognized as World Heritage Day" by UNESCO. It commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and death of the Lord Buddha that all happened on the same day in Buddha period. Wisakha Bucha (วิสาขบูชา) - falls on a full moon in the sixth lunar month, which is usually in May or sometimes June. Thai temples known as wats, resplendent with gold and easily identifiable with their ornate, multicoloured, pointy roofs are ubiquitous and becoming an orange-robed monk for a short period, typically the three-month rainy season, is a common rite of passage for young Thai boys and men. However, unlike the Buddhist countries of East Asia , Thailand's Buddhists follow the Theravada school, which is arguably closer to its Indian roots and places a heavier emphasis on monasticism. Mainland Thai culture is heavily influenced by Buddhism. In particular, the south-east coast of Thailand (including Ko Samui ) has the rains reversed, with the peak season being May-October and the rainy off season in November-February. There are local deviations to these general patterns. Cool: From November to the end of February, it doesn't rain much and temperatures are at their lowest, although you will barely notice the difference in the south and will only need to pack a sweater if hiking in the northern mountains, where temperatures can fall as low as 5°C. A draft new constitution would greatly limit the power of elected governments. Thailand is in theory still a constitutional monarchy, with the king as a very highly respected and revered Head of State, but there have been repeated military coups and as of 2016, the country is run by a military junta which allows no organised political opposition. The earliest identifiably Thai kingdom was founded in Sukhothai in 1238, reaching its zenith under King Ramkhamhaeng in the 14th century before falling under the control of the kingdom of Ayutthaya , which ruled most of present-day Thailand and much of today's Laos and Cambodia as well, eventually also absorbing the northern kingdom of Lanna. With great food, a tropical climate, fascinating culture, majestic mountains and great beaches, Thailand is a magnet for travellers around the world. You may have received a few cutesy cartoon-embossed stamps with your receipt at 7-Eleven. If you're environmentally conscientious, politely decline items from being placed in bags or use alternative containers such as a reusable cloth bag or a thermos instead. It's easy to be up to your eyeballs in one-time-use plastic bags in just a few week's time. This is especially true when buying produce from a local market or snacks (like this ‘soda-in-a-bag' above) from a roadside stall.
