Dear non-natives
The Plains warbonnet is not a Cherokee thing. It is not a Navajo thing. It is not an Indian thing. It is a Plains thing.
Stop calling every silly thing you draw that even vaguely resembles a native “Cherokee” or “Navajo” or “Aztec.”
Stop drawing the warbonnet everywhere as the apparently definitive native thing. It isn’t part of all of our 600+ cultures.
Same goes for the tipi, not part of every one of the 600+ indigenous cultures.
Stop thinking that if a native person doesn’t have dark, “mahogany” skin, that their heritage is invalid. Even without admixture, we actually do have varying skin tones.
Stop wearing crappy fake warbonnets.
Stop wearing redface.
Stop using us as your silly mascots. We are people.
Stop saying “spirit animal.” It’s derived from a New Age bastardization of a something that actually exists in some of our cultures.
Don’t smudge. Cleanse all you like, that’s fine, but don’t smudge.
Don’t call us “Indians.” “Native American” isn’t great either, it is not our name, but it’s slightly better than “Indian.” “Indigenous” is also fine.
Don’t use NDN/ndn. That is ours.
Step off about our hair. If you meet a long-haired native, admire it if you like, maybe even ask them about it (RESPECTFULLY), but do not touch. The same applies for someone with short hair, but additionally for those with short hair, don’t say things like “oh you’d look more native/Indian/etc if your hair was long.” We didn’t all traditionally have long, flowing hair. Believe it or not, there are actually different haircuts existing in our various cultures, and aside from that ultimately it’s a personal choice, one does not need to have long hair if they don’t want to. Doesn’t make them any less native to have short hair.
Don’t pray to our spirits/gods/energies. Native spiritualities are closed, they are not for outsiders.
Don’t say “The Native Americans believed…” Firstly, the past tense is silly, we still exist and do things. Secondly, we are NOT A MONOLITH. As I mentioned before, there are upwards of 600 different Native American cultures.
Don’t ask about someone’s “Indian name.” That’s not only insensitive, the name you are referring to in that instance is something sacred, and might not be something that person wants to share with you.
Don’t call yourself silly crap like “howling wolf” or “flying eagle.” That’s also racist and insensitive.
Regardless of whatever you might think you’re doing, or what your intentions may be, if a native person tells you that what you’re doing is disrespectful, STOP DOING IT.
You aren’t honoring us. You’re just mocking us further, demonstrating your continued ability to treat us like shit and get away with it even now, centuries after our colonization began. Your feelings are not more important than our history and survival.
To those doing your best as allies, thank you, keep doing what you do. HOWEVER, don’t let opportunities to educate others escape you. By letting them continue to be ignorant, you are failing. Spread the message.
There will be no “please.” It’s been more than 500 years, and we still are made to be invisible in our homelands. Still we are treated like less. Some even think we all died long ago.
We are still here
We will still be here
Treat us with respect.

fifty shades series review sorta
Legend: (????) : something happens too stupid for words (X) : Christian Grey does something that would send any person thinking clearly running for the hills.
The first movie was stupid, somewhat enjoyable if you’re kinda into kinky shit. I’ll never forgive them for having two characters telling a guy named Jose “no” without saying no way Jose. Important part to know for Darker is the story ends when Christian spanks Ana too hard and she leaves him.
The second movie was absolutely amazingly dumb and I loved it, it plays off like somebody watched the first movie and was like “you know what would be funny? what happens after this”. It starts off with creepy ass Jose having a photography art opening thing and he invites Ana to it, only for her to find out she is the subject of all of his giant fucking photos. Now, I’ve gotta say. It’s a major accomplishment to be the creepiest character in a movie that includes Christian Grey, who is a billionaire who manipulates a young woman into signing a weird creepy sex slave contract (?????). Christian ends up buying them all and asking her to dinner, to which she replies “no you fucking weirdo, then again why not?” (???). Over dinner he is demeaning/dismissive to the waiter who is just trying to get through the week (X), probably worried about making rent, paying tuition, maybe he got himself a baby. Anyway so yeah Christian is a dick and asks to get back together by wording it as to “renegotiate” their sex slave contract (X). Ana says yes but she has a few amendments, namely to fucking forget about the weird ass creepy sex contract. Christian agrees.
So they’re going steady again and they do shit like go grocery shopping. Initially Ana doesn’t wanna get physical but elects to tease and grope Christian while he’s cutting up peppers (????). I think they do end up having sex and Christian goes back to being a fucking weirdo again and tries to give her like 25 grand or some shit (????) and a brand new laptop and phone. I swear to God he did the same weird ass gift box shit last time. Either Apple wanted the new product placement to show off their newly released products or she goes through Apple products faster than a horse stable goes through actual apples. A bunch more weird time filler shit goes on, Ana deals with her new job where her boss is another creepy weirdo, who does, in fact, end up trying to rape her. What are they putting in Seattle water to make them such assholes?
So anyway where was I? Oh yeah, meanwhile Ana starts running into this fucking creepy girl and shit, eventually she gets caught trying to straight up murder Ana out of jealousy. So it turns out this crazy murder woman is Christian’s ex. Christian takes Ana back to his office and explains the sitch to her about his potentially murderous exes. There he explains what might be the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard; his people identify potential submissives for him to spank and shit (??????????) There’s so many things wrong with this I’m gonna make a short list
Ana is revealed as being on that list but they met under circumstances completely out of the control of Christian.
This means that Christian has interviewed and hired people for a job whose description presumably reads “find and vet potential BDSM subs for employer”. This point really deserves a list of its own. -did he post an ad in the jobs section of the newspaper -how can you get such a job (asking for a friend) -what is the title for such a position -”so how is your son, heard he got a new job” “oh yeah, he works at grey industries” “oh yeah? big place that one” “yeah he finds the CEO fuckbuddies.”
This would be the biggest PR disaster in fucking history if there was just a single whistleblower in all of Grey Industries, and his stock price would plummet and Christian would be out on his fucking ass.
You know, Chris has a god damn abundance of spare time for the CEO of a billion dollar company.

I legit think long term Ansel Elgort is gonna be remembered as one of the greats, like I could totally see him reaching Tom Hanks, Harrison Ford, Tom Cruise level noteriety. He’s a really good actor. I mean he’s only 23 years old and he was one of the best things of both The Fault in Our Stars, and Baby Driver. Baby Driver was such a stylized movie that if a great actor wasn’t cast as the lead, the editing and style would have entirely stolen the show, but Elgort really didn’t get overshadowed at all.
