This is the 2nd of 3 glaze firings from this past week. (& the only one out of 3 that I got pictures of all the layers) 🤣😂 Some old pieces, some new, some super tiny & an entire set of new dinnerware for us. I got a bit stuck and couldn’t quite get ANYTHING completely finished... Not even to get on up outta this funk and get back to the job of starting to go back to normal. Super Hubs finally did it... I’ve been trying to get him in the studio for years... and not in the remodeling/repairing heavy lifting capacity that he so enjoys... but in the MAKING, which he has been skillfully avoiding since we started🤣. I know he’s not afraid to get dirty, and I’m not sure why he’s avoided it so long... but all I had to do was mention grandbabies 💕 and he quickly got to it....And what a great job he did!! Is it too early to talk “berry bowls???” 🤦‍♀️😂🤣 For the last couple years...😂(🤣 haha- Who we kidding🤷‍♀️)🤣😂...🤣 Since I started my clay journey, I’ve felt the need to hurry up.... like, I’m late for it all! ...Late to start, late to learn... well... late for nearly every dang thing! Just always behind... in some imaginary schedule! (Well, the holidays (most) I suppose, are not imaginary... ). but it’s not like some mean boss is gonna come out to my studio and fire me for not getting Christmas trees done in time for Christmas last year... yet I feel the pressure, like there was. I’d like to say my Raku class went up in flames last night, 😁just like it’s supposed to... however it actually kind of just sputtered out.🤣 Our fearless leader was not feeling well, we were short a student & shortly after this shot it started raining so we had to call it a wrap... (with a few pieces left unfired😢). All said & done (except for the Student Art Show on Friday) it was a blast!! I highly recommend taking a Raku class or workshop if offered near you... it is some freakin EXTREME pottery, that will wear you out, cover you in smoke & give you some of the most amazing surfaces you’ve ever seen. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Thanks to @cecilcollege @cecilcollegeart Brett & our super class! 💕Raku... is my new favorite 🎉🤦‍♀️ There... I’ve said it. AND Those that KNOW me... know that I usually don’t pick favorites (🤷‍♀️...it’s not fair to the others) Weird Bonnie Fun Fact #483: I’ve never really had a favorite color... movie... band... team... ect... 🤔But wow, this form of pottery just keeps amazing me! ‘Tis’ the season... shoot or I’m late already🤷‍♀️ Anywho.... here’s a couple of tips for making a couple hundred ornaments. 🤣 1. Roll them out a bit thinner... ya don’t want to bring down the tree! 2.Save huge amounts of time smoothing edges by putting plastic over the slab before cutting them out, it rounds over the top edge and eliminates most of the finishing work. C. Use something like a large lid to place over the cookie cutter to push down evenly and cut out cleanly, with out killing your hand. Rock on potters! Get those ornaments fired up! WIP or WTH Wednesday!!!! Today...it’s the same thing. 🤣 Do you know how much your handmade mug goes thru just to get to you? 🙋‍♀️I do. Here is the short version... 🤣It started with an idea, from a slightly crazed potter.😂 Then took for ever to slowly dry, only to be heated to over 1880° first, then hand washed and glazed & back to the kiln to over 2230° & cooled at an even slower pace, (to test every last bit of patience I’ve got,) to the grand kiln opening. 🎉 But it doesn’t stop there.... no sir-ree Bob! Then the new glazes (cause who’s got time for test tiles... am I right @potterybyjessica 🤣) They need to be tested for many things but the one I hate to love is the boiling water test. I’ll take them in the house, & as it’s so aptly named🤦‍♀️... pour boiling water into them. Most make it... but some like this one died.👻 While this is a harsh test, it’s def one a tea drinker can appreciate. Plus I’ve learned a few valuable lessons... 1. Don’t use this glaze combo on red clay. (No matter how tempting those runs are) 2. Get ready for craft shows earlier 🤦‍♀️ C. MAKE & USE FREAKIN TEST CUPS FOR THIS! Not the good ones!!!🤣😂🤣 But no matter what, I’m always glad that... if this has to happen, that it happens on my watch!
