The way this works is I fire up the ipad, stream it to a monitor, and then the audience starts yelling suggestions about what the monster should be. It's a good time, and if you'll be in Oakland next weekend, it's worth a stop.

It's Blog Time

This week, I make a mess in the studio.

Pity my husband, he lives with an artist.

"It wasn't the prospect of a whole new job that had me defeated, it was the sheer enormity of the high-effort tedium I would have to go through to get yet another "temporary" day job "while I got my art career off the ground". It felt like failure."

For reasons too absurd to explain at the moment, I have a bunch of dead blackberry stems in vases in my kitchen. So here's a happy little blackberry branch.

I like sending Christmas cards but I hate everything that's too much "tidings of New England Christmas fantasy" and not enough "oh my god the holiday monster is upon us." So in the spirit of "if you want something done you have to add your own tentacles" I made myself some Christmas cards, and I figure I'm not the only one who is totally done with Christmas positivity.

New England Christmas Fantasy is basically what you saw in Home Alone: huge house with "architecture", snow, piles of exquisitely wrapped presents, special Christmas dinner china and actual silver silverware. I'm from Pennsylvania and that's what Christmas looked like. But now I live in a part of California where it never snows and there are palm trees everywhere and basically no hemlocks or spruces at all. I couldn't put together a "white Christmas" without driving for 6 hours, and even then I still wouldn't nail the old money WASP-y casual opulence that the North East is so good at.

On the plus side, the tacos here are much better.
