“Zuma’s really going through a country thing right now. I'm hoping he's not just going through it. I think he's just found out who he is, you know. I mean, he's definitely a boots and jeans guy now. And he's found his own country artists. He's now teaching me who some of these people are. I didn't know who Zach Bryan was until last year when Zuma introduced me to his records and we went to a concert, and now I’m a big fan. And there’s a lot of that. Almost every week, he’s introducing me to someone I didn’t know about. It’s a lot of fun.”

Gwen's Purple Irises
Here are some interview highlights from Gwen's Purple Irises press tour discussing how the song relates to her and Blake.

Acoustic Sunrise
The story behind this - "Wonder why you took a risk on a broken heart you cannot fix"?  Originally (the line) was "broken girl," and he changed it. When you go through your family breaking up and falling apart, at the age I was and I had just given birth to Apollo, my attitude was I'm going to eat enough to stay alive, I'm going to sleep, wake up and take care of my kids, and I'm going to sleep, and that was going to be the rest of my life. And I was fine because you just think, I blew it, my life is over. The idea that someone like tall, hot, handsome, talented, sexy, funny, all the things that is Blake Shelton is would be like, "Hey, you want to make out with me?" I would be like, what? That would never happen to me. That is a risky thing to do to say, "I'm going to love you, I'm going to love your kids, and I'm going to do this with you. I know what I want — I want you. You're my pretty girl." Like, that's what my life is.  (Source)

It's so weird to think there was a time where he was this country guy I didn't know about, and now we're on a song together, it's such an incredible, amazing miracle. It's so exciting. It's one thing to have songs out by yourself, but with your favorite person, it's even more fun.  When I met Blake, he has a ranch, and that's his number one favorite thing to do is be on the ranch. I'd never been around nature like that, our nature is like the beach. I didn't think I would like that, bugs and dirt and hot weather. But getting there and realizing how amazing it is in nature, something I didn't even know I needed. He would do a lot of farming for the animals. He has a lot of animals and he would feed them by planting these huge food plots on a tractor. I'd be like, "Oh my God, you're on a tractor, you're so hot." One year, I was like, "Instead of planting alfafa, let's plant some zinnias." We planted these, and he was so amazed by how cool it was to watch them come up after all the effort we made together, so it kind of got us into it... So it just got us really fascinated with the land, and I feel like gardening and planting seeds, you're like planting hope, and it's very reminiscent to our lives.  After so much hardship in love in my lifetime, to find my best friend — that's Blake. It doesn't matter where we are, what we're doing, we will figure it out together. That's the dream, right? (Source)

The thriving flowers became a reminder to Stefani to get out of her head. “The truth is I am in love with my best friend,” she says, “and all this sh*t I’m thinking of in my brain, that’s all it is — I’m overthinking.” She wrote it as a solo track, but Shelton dropped enough hints about wanting to be on it that she finally invited him to duet. (The two have “fantasized” about a joint, singer-songwriter-y record: “I feel like Blake and I are already a project together,” she says. “I’m always going to want to write music with Blake Shelton.”) Though they’ve sung together before, there was something surprising about Stefani bringing him into her world this time. Her divorce from Rossdale hung over the promo cycle for This Is What the Truth Feels Like in ways that often seemed nakedly uncomfortable for her; she could be forgiven for wanting more of a firewall between her life and her art at this point. “But when you’re in love and have truly aligned values, nobody can get to us. You can say whatever you want to say about our relationship — I mean, a week ago we were getting divorced again or something,” she says, referencing tabloid rumors. “It’s just lies. The truth is the truth, and we know what that is. And so that [negativity] would never penetrate just by me being vulnerable and sharing a song that I didn’t write for anybody else but myself and Blake.” When the first mix of “Purple Irises” came in, they were at home but didn’t have any good speakers on hand, so they headed out to the car to listen. “I was like, ‘This is what I always do with my music, but I’ve never done it with somebody else — that’s weird,’” she says. They didn’t go anywhere, though. They just sat in the driveway for nearly an hour, laughing and listening to what they had made over and over again. (Source)

We are in love, this is true love. Be in that moment, and stop trying to analyze everything and miss the moment.  I have been writing songs since 2020, and even though maybe I don't share all of them, it's just part of who I am and what I need to do, selfishly actually. I have to find stolen moments to go in the studio, because you know, I'm a mom first, I do shows, I have my makeup line, I have my incredible husband. I have my family first.  (Source)

I want to duet with him always. With Blake that song "Happy Anywhere" is just so true. It doesn't matter where we are, we always seem to make it work and have fun together. Music when we come together is my dream. (Source)

Do you guys ever sing in the shower together? You know what? I'm doing that tonight. I'm going to sing in the shower with Blake. We actually have the shower that has like the two shower heads. (Source)

Does Blake have a nickname for you? He calls me pretty girl. When he said that to me the first time, because of his accent and everything, I was like, "Is this happening to me right now? Is my boyfriend actually …?" And he kept doing it, and I was like, "Oh my gosh, I have died and gone to heaven."  (Source)

At the end of the day, though, to really be not worried about the future but be in the present of the truth of what's happening, which is: we're here in Oklahoma, we're picking purple irises, and we're in love. That's the truth. (Source)

Blake's April Interview Highlights
I wanted to transcribe some of the highlights from Blake's recent interviews and have in one place because they are so great.

Did you ever imagine a love like this?
No, oh my God, but I don't know how you can. I don't know how you can imagine when you find that life partner, that missing piece - you didn't know it was missing, or I didn't. And now that it's there, it's like golly, you can go ahead and kill me if this ever goes away or ends or something happens. There's no going back now.
What do you hope the next 10 years looks like for you two?
If I could have a repeat of these past 10 years would be perfect, you know. Next month we've got an 18-year-old, which blows my mind that that already happened; and in a couple years, we'll have another 18-year-old and so it's going to be I guess a lot more alone time, which I'm not mad about that either. But we still have Apollo so we have another almost 10 years before we can kick him out. So it should be a lot of fun.
How have they changed your life?
In every possible way. I learned quickly, not because anything happened but just reading the room, you really have to take a step back and when people say it's not about you anymore when you have a kid, I mean it truly, I think if you're doing it right, it's not about you anymore, that's true. I've learned that any splash I make, anything I do gets on them too. Anything I say or that happens in the public eye, and I take that hard, I take that serious.
I've had a lot of people, especially friends, be like 'Man, how come you're not on — I never hear you say anything social media.' I say yeah, I deleted it, I don't even have that stuff anymore. There's no upside to it compared to what could be the downside, and I don't want anything that I ever do or say to get on the kids. So in that way they've changed my life a lot. I just want to step back, and this is their time.
What is your favorite part about being with them?
I think for me is the discovery part of where they're at. I get to teach them the country, and I love that, you know, whether it's music, literally getting out and getting their hands in the dirt, being out on the ranch, seeing the animals, I absolutely love being the person that gets to introduce them to that stuff.
Zuma is really going through a country thing right now — I hope he's not just going through it, I think he just found out who he is. He's definitely a boots and jeans guy now, but he's found his own country artists. He's now teaching me who some of these people are. I didn't know who Zach Bryan was until last year when Zuma introduced me to his records and we went to a concert and now I'm a big fan. And there's a lot of that, almost every week he's introducing me to someone I didn't know about. It's a lot of fun.

What is the secret to your strong relationship?
The fun thing about that, we don't really have to work on that. I don't know why, she's my best friend, that's the best way I know to say it. It's not something that we really have to think about, it's just there, you know, and we have fun with it. Maybe that's the key is we have so much fun together, whether we're having a cup of coffee in the morning or watching a movie or performing in an arena somewhere.
We literally just have so much fun together, and the only regret that we have is that we didn't find each other until late in life. But also know we had to go through everything we went through to get us there. We're just grateful, and we have fun.

What does Gwen's support mean to you?
It's everything, I mean that's my wife. She's never not been there to support me, and it's just such a comforting thing to know that she has my back, she's my best friend, and it's not something we just say, it's in our actions. We are as supportive of each other as we can be.
I want to know how you got a city girl like Gwen to become a country girl.
Well, flowers. It's hard to get her excited about, you know, a stalk of corn growing, but if you can get her some zinnias, and things like that going, now she's fired up, and now she wants to be a farmer.
Didn't you get her zinnia seeds for Christmas?
I got that, I got her sunflower seeds, you name it. If it can grow in Oklahoma I probably got it for her.
Of course you also got her some jewelry too, so you covered your bases.
I'm not sure which is more expensive, either, I don't know if you've priced some of that flower stuff, but holy shit.
