SUMMARY; Everyone starts playing Sherlock Holmes when you show up to the party in a matching couple’s costume with your ex. Their assumptions are wrong, of course; you’re done with Yeonjun. But you have an inkling that the misunderstanding may have been caused on purpose.

You’ve just finished downing a cup of punch when something jabs into your side roughly. What was supposed to be a pleasant last sip of the fruity treat is ruined as you’re reduced to coughing and choking, spluttering as you look around frantically. Two of your friends in matching Thing One and Thing Two costumes are snuggled up on either side of you, smug smiles on their faces.

“A regular ‘hey’ would suffice,” you grumble, your voice still raspy from your coughing fit.

“Like we have time to worry about pleasantries,” Hana says, rolling her eyes.

“Yeah, gotta give it to you,” Jia says, “You really have a way of making announcements both silent yet dramatic.”

“What in the world are you two talking about?” you ask, setting your empty plastic cup onto the refreshments table. You eye a tray of cookies before plucking up a pumpkin-shaped one.

“We already saw Yeonjun,” Hana says. You freeze with the cookie halfway to your mouth. “So there’s nothing to deny.”

You and Minghao stood in the kitchen for a few minutes in silence before both retiring to your bedrooms.  You had a fitful night sleep. Even being up until two in the morning, you were the first one to wake up on Christmas Day.

You were halfway through cooking breakfast when you heard the door to the spare room open and close, signaling one or both of Minghao’s parents were awake.

“Oh. Good morning Y/n. I’m happy you came back.” you heard Minghao’s mother say.

“I am so sorry about yesterday.  That’s definitely not how I wanted our first meeting going.” you told her.

“These things happen. Life is complicated and messy, and when you live with someone even more so. I’m just happy you came home for Christmas.” she said.

“Oh, Merry Christmas!” you said, suddenly realizing you hadn’t properly greeted her for the holiday yet.

“I guess I should probably introduce myself. I’m Mei, Minghao’s mother.” she said, holding her hand out to you.

minho was sat in club, changbin on his left and chan on his right. they were sat in the back of the club in one of the vip booths, so they could see everything that was going on. minho took a sip of his drink, his eyes darting around the room.

it was a friday night, so the club was full. people were dancing, drinking, kissing and whatnot. the music was loud. not so loud so you couldn’t hear yourself think, but loud enough so you had to yell to be heard if you were on the dance floor. if you were at the back, where the three men were, you could talk in a normal volume.

minho was about to take a sip when he felt an elbow poke his right side. he looked at chan, who was pointing to two people dancing.

“what?” minho asked.

“the man,” chan said. “it’s him, the same guy who broke in,”

this caught minho’s attention. a week before, the mansion they lived in, had been broken into. the person had stolen some weapons and a couple of important documents.

they hadn’t caught him in the act, and only knew about it because of the missing stuff. they had checked the surveillance cameras, and had gotten a good look at the guy.

but they didn’t know anything about him. none of them recognized him. they had even asked some normal citizens, to no avail.

“should we get him outside?” changbin asked.

minho shook his head. “no. we don’t know who he is, he could be apart of ateez,”

“then what do we do?” chans eyes never left the man, who had began to walk over to the bar.
