Account changes
This was a Hamilton/turn/revolutionary war era fan account and while I'm still fascinated/in love with the topic I've gotten a lot more into writing and reading again. Sooo this is now a writing/reading account but that said I'll probably touch on early American history often because I love it.
Welcome to my mediocre writing and passion for other peoples writing! (:

July 4, 1779
On this day in history George Washington in his Head Quarter in New Windsor wrote La Fayette in Paris a letter detailing the start of the new campaign and some general information about the ongoing War of American Independence. Washington ends his letter with a very touching question, a question and sentiment that we do not see often so openly displayed by Washington.

My dear Marqs
Since my last which was written (to the best of my recollection for not having my Papers with me I cannot have recourse to dates) in March both Armies continued quiet in their winter cantonments till about the first of May when a detachmt of abt 2000 of the Enemy under the command of General Matthew convoyed by Sir George Collier made a sudden invasion of a Neck of land comprehending Portsmouth & Suffolk in Virginia, and after plundering & destroying the property (chiefly private) in those places & stealing a number of Negros returned to New York the moment they found the Country rising in Arms to oppose them.
This exploit was immediately followed by a movement of Sir Henry Clinton up the North River the beginning of June. what the real object of this expedition was, I cannot with certainty inform you—Our Posts in the highlands were supposed to be his aim because they were of importance to us & consonant to his former plan for prosecuting the War but whether upon a nearer approach he found them better provided & more difficult of access than he expected—or whether his only view was to cut off the communication between the East & West side of the River below the highlands I shall not undertake  to decide—certain it is however that he came up in full force— disembarked at Kings ferry & there began to fortify the points on each side which to all intents and purposes are Islands & by nature exceedingly strong.
This movement of the enemy and my sollicitude for the security of our defences on the River, induced me to March the Troops which were cantoned at Middle brook, immediately to their support & for the further purpose of strengthening the defences by additional Works. in this business I have been employed near three weeks. while the enemy have not been idle in establishing themselves as above. They have reinforced their main army with part of the garrison at Rhode Island.
General Sullivan commands an Expedition against the Six Nation’s which aided by Butlar & Brandt, with their Tory Friends, & some force from Canada have greatly infested our Frontrs—He has already Marched to the Susquehanna with about 4000 Men all Continental Soldiers & I trust will destroy their Settlements & extirpate them from the Country which more than probable will be effected by their flight as it is not a difficult matter for them to take up their Beds and Walk.
We have received very favourable accts from South Carolina. by wch it appears that the British Troops before Charles town have met with a defeat & are in a very perilous situation—We have this matter from such a variety of hands that it scarcely admits of a doubt and yet no official information is received of it.
When my dear Marquis shall I embrace you again? Shall I ever do it? or has the charms of the amiable & lovely Marchioness—or the smiles and favors of your Prince with-drawn you from us entirely? At all times, & under all circumstances, I have the honor to be with the greatest regard personal attachment & affection. Yr Obedient Servt

In honor of my one year anniversary with the Hamilton fandom...
I will be talking about my first opinions/thoughts on Hamilton the musical on Disney+ from when I watched it a year ago
(Heads up: I didn't really catch names AT ALL so all the characters were just random people to me)
. When Eliza wrote the letter to Washington to send Alex home, I was like “Is that her dad?” so I thought George Washington was Elizabeth Schuyler’s dad and that's why he sent Alex home. For his future grandchild.
. This wasn't my first impression of the actual movie but it was the first Hamilton fandom content I saw after I watched the movie. I saw a tiktok of someone zooming in on all of the Lams moments and I immediately freaked out and had to watch it again (it made me so happy)
. When Jefferson showed up in the second half, I thought he was still Lafayette. So when Jefferson and Hamilton started arguing in the cabinet battle I was like “You were just besties, what the hell happened??”
. I also thought James Madison was Hercules still and that both Lafayette and Mulligan just decided they hated him
. I didn't even notice that John Laurens and Philip were played by the same person. I had NO idea what so ever.
. This wasn't me but I watched it with my mom for the first time and she thought that Burr was like 50 when Alex was 19, she thought that Burr was just some old dick bullying Alex (Her words not mine)
. I thought the battle of Yorktown was the legit end of the war(which I blame on my shitty public school education more than anything)
. And finally, the most incorrect of all, I thought I would never watch it again or even think about it for that matter... Boy was I wrong
Now for my thoughts after writing this post:
Its strange to think its only been a year since I watched Hamilton for the first time. That musical has shaped the last year of my life in every possible way.
. I discovered I love learning. Both sifting through the internet to find entertaining fun facts about my favorite revolutionaries and genuinely trying to understand the timeline and politics.
. I have learned so much about America and the role women, indigenous people, African American people, and other minorities played in our history (I also unlearned a lot of the white washed history I was fed in school)
. I've always known I wanted to be a teacher and this year I decided I want to be a history teacher
. I started reading a lot of historical fiction and non fiction which got me back into reading in general
All in all, whether I stay a fan of this musical forever or not, it will always have a very special place in my heart as the musical that helped me find myself and what i love in a time when I was going without.
I don't know what I'd be doing without it
