Trip number four this year? Another rafting trip down the Colorado River through Grand Canyon National Park. WANT TO COME? KEEP READING. After being the Trip Leader (TL) for what was essentially my first rafting trip ever (a 28-day Grand trip) in December of 2021, I decided I would never TL another trip again. Way too stressful. Well, here I am, three years later, doing it again. This time I intend to take the maximum allowable time (30 days) on the river. I’ve learned a lot from the previous trip. For example: 1) All lunches should be deli-lunches, and they should all be prepped at breakfast (stopping for lunch on winter trips is dumb - a hill I’ll die on) 2) Ensure we have enough propane from the start (the previous trip required an impromptu hike to the South Rim - fun, but not as relaxing as hanging out at Phantom Ranch). 3) Apply lotion to my hands a minimum of five times daily to prevent my fingers from splitting (painful splits may be unavoidable). 4) Not worry nearly as much about having everything planned/figured out ahead of time (as was the case on my first trip). 5) GET THE TRIP FILLED IN ADVANCE. And on that last point, I am putting the call out here. If you’re interested in a 30-day Grand Canyon Rafting Trip and are ready to commit December 10, 2024, to January 13, 2025, to the river, leave a comment, send a message, or - best of all - email me and let me know. Yes, it will be cold. No, you cannot come for just part of the trip. #coloradoriver #grandcanyonrafting

Trip number three this year? The Haute Randonnée Pyrénéenne (HRP), aka the Pyrenean Haute Route - a 500-ish mi/800-ish km route along the French and Spanish border (and through Andorra) 🇫🇷 🇦🇩 🇪🇸 I’ve been to the Pyrenees twice now - each time just for an overnight hike - and each time, I’ve said, “I need to come back and hike the HRP.” Now’s (hopefully) that time. I’m catching a ride to the start (beginning at the Atlantic and hiking east/southeast to the Mediterranean) with @charliewgt - whom I met on the Pacific Crest Trail in 2013 (and who is responsible for my previous two trips to the Pyrenees). I expect the route will be a mixed bag as far as camping, huts dwelling (if they’re open - I plan to go late in the season), impromptu side quests, poor Spanish speaking, non-existent French speaking, and hopefully some good stories. I’ve done relatively little research on the route beyond seeing the Pyrenees and deciding they’re cool mountains, and I might try to go into this one relatively blind - fill my bag with cheese and baguettes, grab my maps, and head off into the borderlands. That said, anyone have any tips beyond the obvious “learn more French”? Anything in Andorra worth seeing while passing through? Favorite cheeses? Breads? Wines? #hrp #pyrenees 📸: @charliewgt

Trip number two this year (assuming I survive the Tour Divide) is the Yosemite High Route. Anyone done this yet? It’s got some funky logistical questions since the termini are technically not at trailheads. I am thinking of entering via Hetch Hetchy and exiting via the Valley. Good idea? Bad idea? No idea? Regardless of where I start and end, I’m excited to explore areas of Yosemite where I haven’t been yet (and to say hello to some bear friends, hopefully). #yosemitevalley #yosemitenationalpark

GIVEAWAY | While doing trail magic on the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) last year, what may be the filthiest thru-hiker I've ever seen wandered out of the woods and sat with us briefly while we fed him pizza and Capri Suns. Little did we know that this man, @nick.fowler.says.hi, would go on to set the self-supported PCT Fastest Known Time (FKT)—probably because of the Capri Suns we blessed him with. Nick has recently released a book, Itch: A Pacific Northwest Trail Story, chronicling his 2021 Pacific Northwest Trail FKT across Montana, Idaho, and Washington. I’ve got a copy to give away, so if you want a free copy, do the following: -Be following @halfwayanywhere and @nick.fowler.says.hi -Tag a friend in the comments who you would want to support you on an FKT attempt (supported, obviously) Winner will be selected at 22:00 Pacific Time on Friday, March 29, 2024. Open to anyone with a US shipping address. #pacificnorthwesttrail #fkt

One of my goals this winter was to learn how to ski. Building out my van, not having a permanent residence, training for the Tour Divide, and an uninspiring winter made this challenging, but I would call my time on the sticks a success. I miss the confidence that years of riding have given me on a snowboard, and I fear for my knees with every fall (on the skis), but I am sold; skiing is fun. Probably going to have to ski the Sierra High Route next year now. Anyone up for an adventure? #yosemitenationalpark #skiyosemite
