The warnings Dobermann had and Kal’tsit’s stare rears its head in her memory as they took every chance they got to question her about him. The guard operator wasn’t stupid and probably knew of the higher-ups reservations about him–after all, wasn’t the other as infamous as her?

“I tend to be a magnet for trouble anyway.” Kaede replies dryly, matching the feline’s sardonic tone. “Even if you were trouble, you’d simply say you’ll solve it for me, won’t you?”

Amusement forms on his face, a sly smirk pulling at his lips as he pushes down a laugh that tries to escape. He leans back in his chair, the tip of his tail twitching as he regards the woman quietly.

What sort of trouble could he himself cause? Quite a few things pop into his head, but for now he won’t voice them.

❝ And what will your tribute be for me once I finish solving your problems, hm? ❞

His tone is still playful as he leans against the palm of his hand, his elbow leaning onto the chair arm. His question is just a jest, but he wonders how she’ll reply.

Getting any expression from the woman was turning into a bad habit of his.

He pauses in his words, a small smile pulling at his lips while he stares at her coolly. She stares at him with a challenge in her eyes and he enjoys it--the times where he can see a glimmer of fire in her amber eyes.

(It’s different from that passive look she gets nowadays.)

❝ I don’t enjoy hollow victories made from shallow moves. No--we must go further than that, my friend. The obliteration of your enemies must be conducted, less they come back for their own vengeance. History will repeat itself without fail so you must aim higher if you don’t want to fall victim to it. ❞

The steady beat of his heart echoes in your ears as you listen through the stethoscope. It sounds strong and normal as you pull away from him to listen to his lungs. Steady breathing, and nothing out of the ordinary sounds through, and you can’t help but glance over the scar partially hidden by his shirt.
