000. prologue: the first look

reaching his hand out towards the rain, ricky felt the droplets of water fall onto his palm. soon enough, his whole hand was wet due to the heaviness of the rain.

he had just spent the past few hours sitting in the library, trying his best to cram in all the knowledge he could fit into his brain. he was already one of the top students, so why? his parents are why.

ever since he was conceived, they painted this picture where their son would be a child prodigy who would take over their company once the time had come. it wouldn't be so bad, if it didn't come with all the added pressure as well.

so just to be prepared for the upcoming exams, ricky decided to take time afterschool and write math notes until his hand was red. maybe that wasn't the best idea though, because now his hand was sore and limp.

just to add to all that pain, he was now stuck at school with no way home in the heavy rainfall.

ricky was seriously contemplating calling gyuvin to pick him up but he had been held back for practice since he had been sick the previous week with a cold. his parents were currently in china for business, so there was no use in calling them.

just as he was about to make a run for it, ricky felt a tap on his shoulder and turned to his right to see the vice president of shs, sung y/n.

"sorry if i startled you," y/n spoke softly, seeing as ricky's eyes shifted once she tapped him on the shoulder. "i just saw you standing here for a while, what are you doing here so late?"

"i was studying in the library," ricky answered with caution due to not knowing y/n that well. but in the effort of making conversation, he asked, "what about you?"

"i had a late student council meeting, i had to cover for gunwook since he wasn't available today," y/n replied, letting out a sigh, "we were trying to figure out where to put the funds from last week's fundraiser."

"i'm probably boring you with that stuff anyways.. you've been standing here for a while," y/n changed the topic, "waiting for someone?"

"no it's just.. i have no way home," ricky admitted, slightly embarrassed, his hand falling on the back of his neck. "i forgot to bring an umbrella too."

"oh, you can have mine," y/n reached into her backpack, putting the umbrella in front of ricky for him to take.

"don't you need it too?" ricky questioned.

"no, it's fine! i live nearby anyways," y/n gently took ricky's hand and wrapped it around the umbrella so he would be forced to take it.

"there's a bus stop a few minutes away. if you run, you'll make it in time for the bus," y/n informed, pointing in the direction of the bus stop.

"..thank you.." ricky muttered, his heart fluttering at the sudden contact between the two.

he watched as y/n smiled at him, zipping up her backpack before putting it over her head. "i'll see you monday then, quanrui," she gave him one last smile before starting to run down the steps.

as she reached the school gate, y/n looked back and waved at ricky before starting to run again so she wouldn't be fully soaked.

it was just a kind gesture from the vice president, so, why was his heart suddenly beating so rapidly? why did his cheeks feel warmer? why was there a sudden urge in him that wanted to see that smile again?

before his thoughts started to take over, ricky flicked his forehead slightly so that it wouldn't leave a mark before starting to walk to the nearest bus station.

the first look changes everything.

profile (2) : academic weapons type shit 。

shen quanrui, also known as ricky, is one of the top students at shs and the heir to his parent's company. originally born in china, he moved to korea at a young age for business. he is liked by many, especially girls, although he doesn't pay them much attention. he is a fairly quiet person in public, only showing his personality to his two childhood bestfriends.

kim gyuvin is ricky's lifetime bestfriend, being with him since they were both in the womb since their parents knew eachother. although gyuvin can get on his nerves sometimes, he has become someone that ricky can rely on. gyuvin just started working at a café with y/n and is on the shs hockey team.

park gunwook is the senior president of shs and the school's debate club. he first met ricky and gyuvin in kindergarten and have been attached at the hip since. alongside y/n, he volunteers at a homeless shelter and also visits nursing homes whenever he has a chance.

sung y/n is the senior vice president of shs, as well as one of the top students, and the younger sister of sung hanbin. she works at a café and also volunteers at a homeless shelter on the weekends. things she likes are the beach, her family and friends, reading, photography, and shen ricky. things she dislikes are bullies, disappointing the people around her, and bugs.

han byeol is y/n's bestfriend and older sister of han yujin. she has been interested in acting and singing ever since she watched the barbie movies as a child. she is currently in the drama department of shs and works at a convenience store to pay for performance classes.

hello readers ,

So I've been trying to find a story where gyuvin and the reader are friends and someone said that the reader would do anything for gyuvin so when Gyuvin asked the reader to the movies she declined. ► synopsis: you and gunwook devised the oh so, full proof plan to get gyuvin to fall for you!!!

► slightly proof read

► p.s gunwook is best wingman

step one — get closer to him (physically)

gunwook laid out the steps for you one by one. first, you’d have to get close to him but in a subtle way!

his bright idea? turning up the a/c. what you didn’t expect was gunwook setting the temperature to a chilling 60 degrees.

“oh it’s pretty cold in here isn’t it.” gunwook ponders.

“yeah, just how cold is it?” you glared at gunwook as your teeth chattered.

“oh don’t worry about it! the air conditioner must be broken.” he shrugged avoiding eye contact.

gyuvin still had his eyes fixated to the tv in full focus in his mario kart race.

“are you cold y/n?” hanbin questioned. “you can wear my sweater if you want!”

“oh thank you hanbin! you shouldn’t have…” your fully slightly pained smile spilling out as you accepted the wrong person’s hoodie.

gunwook physically smacked his hand against his forehead.

spoiler alert: it did leave a mark on his forehead that lasted a good two days.

step one. failed.

step two — make him good ol’ baked home goods

you trusted gunwook with your life after all. well, not after the kitchen fiasco that was.

“uhm, is that supposed to be bubbling?” you questioned in concern watching the “cookies” bake in the oven.

“i don’t think so,” he trailed off in fear. “just how many tea spoons of baking powder did you add?”

“i think, around 3?” you replied.

“that can’t be right, then why is the-“ realization flashed through his eyes.

“oh man..” he started.

“what did i do.”

“well, you may have used table spoons instead of tea spoons.” gunwook stated re-reading the baking instructions.

he pointed his finger to the top of the ingredient list. “also, we used baking powder instead of soda.”

to make the situation even worse, the smell of smoke entered your nostrils.

“there is no way…” you raced to the oven and fished the tray of slightly burned cookies.

of course at the worse timing ever, gyuvin enters the kitchen, clearly looking for whatever he can stuff into his mouth.

“yay cookies!” his eyes lit up. “i love home made ones the best!”

“gyuvin wait!” but you and gunwook were a little too late. as gyuvin munched into the baked good that didn’t even deserve to be called a cookie.

gyuvin’s face went from joy to confusion to pure disgust.

“oh wow guys this is the best thing i’ve ever tasted!” he managed to cough out.

“dude, you can be honest.” gunwook deadpanned.

“i need a moment.” he mumbled making his way toward the bathroom.

in the distance you can hear the faucet running as gyuvin attempted to get any taste of that concoction out of his taste buds.

“great! i gave him food positioning!” you slouched onto the floor in defeat.

step two. failed.

and so the saga continued. gunwook would come up to you every day with a new plan to push gyuvin closer to you. of course, most. well. all of the attempts resulted in failure.

one failed attempt after another felt like a never ending rollercoaster. step 4? yujin beat you to asking gyuvin to share an umbrella on the walk home. step 5? we don’t talk about step 5.

“gunwook, i am one failed attempt away from dropping out and moving across the country. the continent even!” you flailed your arms in annoyance.

gunwook shook his head in disagreement. “no can do!” he shook his finger. “i got this covered y/n, just you wait!”

do not fret. gunwook wasn’t class president for no reason. he devised yet another foolproof plan by adding any steps necessary to ensure by the end of the day you and gyuvin will be a couple.

step ??? — become partners for the upcoming group project

gunwook may or may not have pulled a couple strings to ensure that you and gyuvin would be partners in the newest english assignment.

“hey y/n!” gyuvin greeted pulling up a seat next to you. “what exactly did the teacher say? sorry i think i fell asleep for most of it.”

you laughed at his demeanor before quickly explaining the project requirements and such. surprisingly enough, gyuvin listened intently nodding along to the words spilling from your mouth.

“thanks y/n!” he smiled. “so, when is this due?”

“we have around two weeks or so,” you tapped your pen on your bottom lip as you scanned the instruction sheet once more.

“wanna visit the café across the school so we can sort stuff out?” gyuvin questioned tiling his head.

your face erupted into a smile at his suggestion. “you sure this isn’t just an excuse to try their new season menu?” he pouted at your words lightly shoving your shoulder. “come one! please~”

you rolled your eyes at his antics. “of course gyuvin~” teasing him.

conversations filled the hallway as students rushed to beat rush hour on the train. the two of you continued to converse as you made your way to the train station. of course, gyuvin forgot to reload his train pass resulting in the two of you missing the train.

“i’m so sorry!” gyuvin apologized clasping his hands together. you laughed at his dramatic apology shaking your head playfully. “don’t sweat it, it gives me more time to spend with you.”

“what?” gyuvin questioned. your face immediately burned up as regret filled your mind. before you can even stutter out a response, gyuvin came up with one himself.

“glad to know, my plan worked,” you raised an eyebrow in suspicion. he turns to face you. “why don’t we turn that study session into a real date? you know, to make up for missing the train and everything.”

you rolled your eyes playfully. “of course!” a smile erupted on his face as he suddenly engulfed you in his arms.

“i’ve been waiting so long to do this.”

if being stuck in traffic and waking up late wasn't enough for her, y/n's boss had fired her earlier that day as well.

it had been for multiple reasons; the company being overstaffed and the work was slow but her being late that day just threw her boss over the edge he was barely hanging onto.

normally y/n wouldn't feel so overwhelmed, but with the recent closing of her lease and sharing an apartment with her boyfriend, she's been very stressed to say the least.

her being financially unstable after just moving in with her boyfriend was her biggest worry. y/n's second worry was breaking the news to matthew and seeing the disappointment on his face.

what if he broke up with her then and there? what if he left her on the streets to rot? what would she do without him?

matthew was like her sun. he was always there for her and cheered her up at her worst moments. even the times where she insisted that she was fine and just wanted to be alone, he could read her like a book and know just how she felt.

it was ironic. the only person who understood her complex emotions was the person she was trying to avoid at that moment.

y/n found herself at a beach minutes away from their apartment complex, not daring to enter the place where she knew matthew would be. that was the last thing she wanted to do at that moment.

she just wanted to sort out her thoughts alone, sitting on the gravely sand. there was just this feeling inside of her that craved the comfort of matthew and his warm hugs, but y/n knew she would just burst into tears the moment he appeared in front of her.

"what's got you so deep in thought?" a voice spoke softly, sitting down besides her.

y/n could recognize that voice from a mile away. even without her facing him, she knew it was matthew. no one had that soothing, relaxed voice as sweet as his.

"how'd you know i was here?" y/n asked, not turning her head to face him just yet, trying her best to not break down in a matter of seconds.

"you always come here when you feel down," matthew answered, basking in the rays of lights beaming on him. "i figured something was up when you didn't respond to my million texts."

"just needed some time to think," y/n remarked, looking down at her hands as she played with them to distract herself.

as moments of silence passed by, she felt matthew's warm hand press against her cold cheek to lift her head up and face him. once her eyes met his, y/n couldn't help but shed a few tears while he smiled at her.

"what's wrong sweetheart? you know you can tell me anything right, hm?" he comforted, using his thumb to wipe her tears away before stroking her hair behind her ear.

"we don't have to talke either," matthew assured, pulling her closer to lean on his shoulder, "we can just stay like this if you want to."

he pulled away from y/n for a moment, admiring her face with a smile on his before leaning in to press a kiss on her forehead then leading down to her nose before pressing a short kiss on her lips.

"i love you, okay?" matthew rubbed his hand against her head, giving her an endearing look like he always did before pulling her back into a hug.

"i got fired from my job," y/n admitted, nuzzling her head closer to matthew's neck to stop the tears from flowing down her face.

"that's their lost then," matthew said with a slight frown on his face, his brows knit together. "how can they let go of someone amazing like you?"

"we can get through it, i promise," he asserted confidently, pulling y/n closer to him as if she couldn't get any closer, "maybe we can go on a vacation too.. just the two of us, away from everything for a bit."

"matt, you have a job," y/n pulled away from him with a slight smile on her face, feeling slightly better after her boyfriend's comforting efforts.

"i have sick days i can use," matthew replied, putting his hands on y/n's cheeks to squish them together, "i just wanna be with you. i don't care about anything else."

"and if you ever feel like this again, don't be scared to talk to me," matthew leaned closer to her face, admiring y/n's beauty for a moment.

"i'm only one call away," he smiled, leaning in for another short kiss on y/n's lips before pulling away only to lean in once again. "i just can't get enough of you."

"oh shut up," y/n pushed him away playfully, attempting to cover her rosy cheeks.

"what, i can't love my girlfriend?" matthew frowned cutely, supressing a kiss onto her cheek before swiftly moving to her nose; ending up kissing every inch of her face.

"stop, it tickles!" y/n laughed out, her hands scattering in an attempt to push matthew away brefore eventually giving up.

"i love you, matthew," y/n muttered, looking into his shimmering eyes for a moment before looking towards the sunrise.

"i love you too, y/n," matthew responded, pressing another kiss onto her cheek while his arms wrapped around her waist to pull her closer.
